Remember The Griping About Trading Fasano?

25 minutes. It took 25 minutes for this suggestion to happen. I hid that question in the OP.

I'm pleasantly surprised nobody has brought up Roy Williams yet...

If the Jets had actually tendered Austin an offer for the 2nd rounder the last offseason I'm sure the Boys would have let him go.

You mean if the Jets had offered him a contract big enough for the Cowboys to refuse to match ? Maybe..

and how stupid would that have looked today ?

Fasano has done more than Phillips, who many are enamored with.

If Fasano, who's a starter down here, hadn't done more than Philips, who's a 3rd TE in Dallas, then Fasano would be looking for a job right now. He might still be looking for one in a few months.

Fasano is either slightly above or below average. And I don't see more upside than that. Parcells got a JAG.

According to Pro Football Focus, Fasano was the second-best run blocking tight end in the NFL this season, behind Witten. But Fasano had a negative rating as a receiver and as a pass blocker. (But in their convoluted system, he finished seventh overall, ahead of Gates, Shockey, Celek, Cooley, Heath Miller, Shiancoe and Winslow and waaaaaaaay ahead of Vernon Davis.)

Sign #1 they need to scrap that system then altogether. I wonder though, with Miami's propensity to run the wildcat, if it inflated the effectiveness of Fasano's run blocking abilities?

I'm oh so glad none of you are GM of the Cowboys. Crayton for a sixth rounder? Really?

Marty B for a second rounder? I'm going to serve up heaping helpings of crow when the guy gets past his sophomore slump next season and returns to rookie form (as in deadly receiving threat).

Im not in love w/ these guys. Marty will never be a top option, and his blocking is only so much better than Phillips. The difference isnt worth a young OL or Golden Tate.

I still like fasano.

But of course I know, ireland and parcells drafted him so he sucks.

Actually, it was the dropped TD pass in the endzone on the 2nd half opening drive against the Giants during the divisional playoff disaster that makes him suck.

Marty is an injury away from being a top option and OBVIOUSLY you're wrong about his blocking or else he wouldn't have started all the games he did when healthy.

More like Sign No. 1,000.

Last year, they rated Fasano the No. 2 tight end in the NFL, one spot behind Tony Gonzalez and one spot ahead of Jim Kleinsasser. Witten was fourth, and John Gilmore was fifth.

I think one of the biggest reasons that I want to keep Marty B around, aside from his rookie year performances and his pure physical talents is this: I've seen teams scheming to take him away.

People talk about how well John Phillips did based off of one game and I think hes probably better than he was given credit for coming out of the draft, but hes no Marty B. When he has caught balls he usually hasn't been covered by anyone.

To compare think back to the first game of the season where Marty B's mismatch helped break a long TD to Roy Williams, or some of his catches in traffic this season (including at least a couple where he was double or triple-covered). It's apparent that he demands attention from defenders in a way that a Fasano or a Phillips simply can't.

When have you ever seen either of those guys triple covered on a pass? I swear I saw that a few times this season with Bennett.

He has the ability to bust open a hole for a rushing TD (see: Felix Jones TD) or scare a secondary player into opening up a hole for a long pass TD (see: Roy Williams TD). Don't think you get that from almost any possible replacement, or at least not within their first 1-2 years of play.

My problem with Bennett is that he does not get how fortunate he is to be playing in the NFL. His work ethic, concentration and focus is all questionable.

You're out of your mind if you think anyone was triple covering Bennett. Any DC would be fired if they are moving coverage to a guy with 15 friggin catches, especially with Austin and Witten on the field.

If there were 2 or 3 guys around Bennett it means he either ran the wrong route or ran right into the middle of tight zone coverage.
