Remember when we wanted this guy?

Does anyone believe it could be the Lions organization that is the problem here? I mean they drafted three consecutive 1st round WRs that were very highly rated coming out of college and none of them have lived up to their potential. Not only have they failed to live up to their playing potential, but two of the three (Rogers & Williams) have had off the field issues. What are the coaches and the organization doing to these guys? They certainly aren't developing these guys and turning them into the pro bowlers that they should have been given their draft positions (I know Williams is only a 2nd year guy).

I know players are ultimately responsible for their behavior, but somewhere along the line the organization and it's coaches must bear a portion of the blame.

I agree whole heartedly. Spot on. Detroit has to take some responsibility for this fiasco. I have a hard time believing a team could own the #3, 2, 7, and 10 picks in the first round and produce mostly busts.

Of course the fact that they have owned the #3, 2, 7, and 10 picks in the first round is a good indication that something is wrong within the organization.

Mike Williams was disciplined for tardiness

Thursday, June 08, 2006

ALLEN PARK -- The reason Detroit Lions wide receiver Mike Williams was sent home early from last week's mandatory minicamp was because he missed a treatment for his sore hamstring and then was late to a meeting.

Missed appointments and late for a meeting are traits that I would hope none of our 1st round draft picks would have. I question if the guys really wants it. Many have compared him to Irvin, but one thing is for sure, Irvin was the hardest worker on a very talented team. Mike Williams has very little in common with Irvin.

I still think he has amazing potential, he's just in a bad situation. Sometimes you just need a change of location. That said he does need a big attitude adjustment, and it doesn't look like the Lions, probably the worst run franchise in the NFL, can handle it.

i'll admit that I was promoting BMW and had him #1 on my draft list that year. He was a freak in college. Crazy that he turned out to be such a lazy sack of crap. Don't think that would've happened if he were playing for BP, but he may still be as unproductive.
I think the funny story is that Detroit takes 3 WRs with their #1 3 years in a row in a radical move....and they're a breath away from being 0/3 on those picks. If Roy Williams never plays 16 games in a season...they may be just that...and its not looking good for him.

When was the last time we had a thread this long about two players who haven't done squat in the NFL?

Ahhh yes…the Q and Hutch days where it was sometimes brother against brother.

Hos, you know I have enough respect for you that this will never happen to us.

But I will IM you when Edwards makes the Pro Bowl before Williams :)

You're welcome to Saladin. I have no problem taking my medicine if it's coming.

I still think it's awfully early for HH to try and run smack given our history on this topic. Maybe he thinks it's some form of revenge.

Seeing as how they are 0/3 on WR's and Harrington was a huge bust, it just goes to show how horribly ran the Lions are. Their GM is maybe the worst ever.

I would suggest that Millen immediately resign from the Lions and go back into broadcasting, but he's equally terrible in that profession.

Recall:

Last year before the draft, Cowboys fans were clamoring for Mike Williams, how that if he were there we couldn't pass him up. Parcells would be stupid not to take the next Michael Irvin, yada, yada, yada.

The guy is proving to be a big flop.

Posters are so enamored with sexy positions like receivers, they were convinced this guy was what we needed to give potency to our offense.

Boy, I'm glad the Lions' stupidity ended the controversy which would have erupted over us passing on him.

Of course, we got DeMarcus Ware. :D

This is very easy to say after the fact. This type of behavior isnt really something you can predict when a guy is on the straight and narrow in college. The nfl life got to him, and he outgrew himself. Hopefully this will humble him, and his talent will not go to waste.
