What's a 30 yard slant?
Read that thread I posted in response to Waffle.

It will enlightne you. And make you laugh I hope.

It's why HH is so anxious to claim victory after 1 season. He thinks he's saving face rather than losing it.

It starts rather mundane but gets entertaining quickly. Needless to say I whipped HH unmercifully, plenty of people told him so and he kept denying it. Once again, his opinion was all that mattered.

Then the 30 yard slant came out and...well just think woodshed.

I must have missed this thread when it first premiered. Funny stuff to say the least. I mean come on HH, even Nors was agreeing with Hos and the others. ;)
Don't get mad at me HH, but Galloway only ran "30 yard slants?" :lmao2:

(wiping tears from eyes)

In all seriousness, perhaps Edwards does end up being the superior receiver when it's all said and done. I've never been on either of their bandwagons personally and could care less how they turn out. But to claim victory today would be like naming the winner at the Kentucky Derby before the first turn.

To be fair to HH31 in that "30 yard Slant" thread.

He did later admit he called it wrong and should have called it a post.

Ya know, at first, it really burned me that the Iggles got both Winston Justice & Max Jean-Gilles in what I felt were both steals in the draft. They are both huge, talented OLs who could have come in here and contributed within a year or two. I just wonder, now, however, how long it will take for one or both to implode & pull a Jacob Rogers.

I did love the Carpenter pick, but shook my head at the Fasano & Hatcher picks. I couldn't believe we took those guys, and Philly got the aforementioned O'linemen. I mean, we didn't even get Marcus McNeil for heaven's sake.

The more hindsite I get, the more I realize that the Cowboys picked quality, high character, high motor, BIG players who will contribute to the team this season, and will stand there like puppies with their tongues hanging out ready to learn. I believe Hatcher will be a major steal, not only because of his measureables, but because of his drive to be better & not fail the team.

The players I fretted about either had bad character or injury issues. I should have learned from the Rogers debacle that your better off taking good players who are good people, than great players who are of low esteem. Chances are McNeil will retire early because of his stenosis of the spine, Justice will take the money & run, and Gilles will take the money & run to Burger King, where he will eat his way out of a job.

There is good reason why more & more of these butt-heads are being passed over for players of lesser talent. Here's to hoping the high school butt-heads are watching & will turn their lives & attitudes around.

I agree with HH in that I think Braylon is going to be a better WR than Mike....

But 30 yard slants?

That's pretty sweet.

I kind of missed it too originally and got it later. But boy, more funny to me was that him saying Post was Longer version of Slant. ALthough nothing could top off Harper running, whats that, 75 yard slant was it? :lmao2:

So is the 'Bomb' just a longer version of the 'dump pass over the middle'? I can hear Brad Sham now.

"Cowboys at their own 10...Bledsoe back to pass...Looking...Looking...Patting...Looking...Now he launches a dump pass deep over the middle 60 yards downfield to Terrell Owens...Complete!!!...20, 10, TOUCHDOWN!!"

Recall:

Last year before the draft, Cowboys fans were clamoring for Mike Williams, how that if he were there we couldn't pass him up. Parcells would be stupid not to take the next Michael Irvin, yada, yada, yada.

The guy is proving to be a big flop.

Posters are so enamored with sexy positions like receivers, they were convinced this guy was what we needed to give potency to our offense.

Boy, I'm glad the Lions' stupidity ended the controversy which would have erupted over us passing on him.

Of course, we got DeMarcus Ware. :D

I didn't want him. I thought he was too slow, plus he had been out of football for a year. I don't like those kind of players, you know, Clarette, Henson etc.

I so wish I had posted something like this when that thread was live.

Kudos.

Perhaps it is time to change your screen name because 'you know who' is going on his 2nd year out of football.

Sometimes, you just have to admire it. A WR thread is going along just swimmingly, all of a sudden WHAM-O. Unnecessary Henson bashing.

And then these same people wonder sarcastically in another thread why on earth all us crazy people want to talk about backup QBs all the time.

Mike Williams was disciplined for tardiness

Thursday, June 08, 2006

ALLEN PARK -- The reason Detroit Lions wide receiver Mike Williams was sent home early from last week's mandatory minicamp was because he missed a treatment for his sore hamstring and then was late to a meeting.
Lions president Matt Millen was responsible for sending Williams home last Thursday morning.

Williams missed the final two days of the three-day minicamp, but was back at the off-season workouts on Monday.

"Yes, he was here practicing (Wednesday). He was here Monday," Lions head coach Rod Marinelli said.

When asked if the problem had been straightened out, Marinelli replied: "He's here working and that was the whole thing. He's here and he had a good start this week, very good."

Said Williams: "I've been here for the off-season and working out. Last week is not going to overshadow this off-season for me."
Williams' teammates have put the episode behind them.

"It's already been handled and it's in-house and I'm going to keep it at that," guard Damien Woody said. "It was an issue of a player not holding up his end of the deal and that was pretty much it. He knew what he didn't do and it got resolved. That's it, it's over."

Does anyone believe it could be the Lions organization that is the problem here? I mean they drafted three consecutive 1st round WRs that were very highly rated coming out of college and none of them have lived up to their potential. Not only have they failed to live up to their playing potential, but two of the three (Rogers & Williams) have had off the field issues. What are the coaches and the organization doing to these guys? They certainly aren't developing these guys and turning them into the pro bowlers that they should have been given their draft positions (I know Williams is only a 2nd year guy).

I know players are ultimately responsible for their behavior, but somewhere along the line the organization and it's coaches must bear a portion of the blame.
