On the other hand being stupid enough to shoot your self is why some people don't want people bringing guns into public places.

Luckily he shot himself and not some one just enjoying their evening.

Absolutely right about not shooting a bystander. Very fortunate. Accidents can happen, and those at fault should be held liable and accountable. But I would no more ban handguns than I would cars or anything else an idiot can hurt someone with.

Just in case there's any doubt, I agree that laws have been broken and the personal conduct policy should come into play. He is a Giant after all.

I hear Chris Mortenson say that Burress didn't violate any personal conduct policy as it relates to NFL rules.

It seems as if in some cases, the NFL waits to administer punishment if it involves a judicial/criminal matter. In other cases which are strictly matters of league policy, it acts more quickly.

It will be interesting to see what happens here, especially since Burress only hurt himself yet was clearly (it would appear) violating a state law by possessing an unregistered firearm.
With respect, I'm not arguing, but I'll only believe Mortenson's interpretation if Goodell follows suit.

Moose Johnston said it well during the Skins-Giants game, if you feel like you need to carry a gun to go to a club, you shouldn't go to that club...

Makes perfect sense to me...

Actually it was Tony who said that cause he then went on to tell the story about how one time he went out with friends to a club, this was while playing of course, and they used the metal detector wand things on everyone as they walked in. Tony asked the guy "Do you really have to use these things on everyone?" The guy told him yes and Tony said "Then I have to get out of here cause this isn't the kind of place to be."

So I guess the moral of that story is that he, and I guess the guys with him (team mates from the sound of the story) went somewhere else. An example of good decision making.

Have to laugh at the post about how we do not know what really happened.
The idiot had a loaded weapon on him. Shot himself. He has no NYC permit (and they do NOT recognize other states permits) and his florida permit had expired ANYWAY. Enough is public knowledge already to suspend the idiot.

You know? With all the flack TO gets on this forum, we should be HAPPY that he's never even come close to getting in trouble with the law. Never, never, NEVER has that ever even crept his mind.

Well put! What a moron move, what was he trying to pull the gun out for anyway? Was he getting in a confrontation?

That's the heart of the matter. This isn't about the Second Amendment. It's about someone carrying an unlicensed gun. All he had to do is register his weapon, then people would just be calling him "stupid" instead of "criminal."

He still would have gotten into trouble. I have a CHL in Texas and you cannot take a weapon into any of those places that have the red 51% sign. Basically any place that sells beer/whiskey and has that 51% sign. And granted I have never been to New York and I am not familiar with their rules on carry as I havent travelled there, so I have not had the need to check, I am pretty sure carrying a loaded weapon into a place that has been described as a "club" is not allowed even with a permit, since they sell so much alchol. I think in Texas that you get charged with something if you do that. I know you do if you have an accidental discharge or if you wave it around at someone.

Bottom line, Plax and Pierce are idiot. If Pacman breaks a light plate switch cover, these degenerates should be thrown out of the league! MOOHAHAHAHAHA

I hate the Giants as much as anyone, but a three year sentence is absolutely ridiculous.

Why? Does it have to be a Giant? We are talking NY city here. Do you not think the gun laws should be strict?
Plax should not of been walking around with a gun without a permit. You cannot expect anyone to be ok with his ignorance of the law. You want to carry a gun for safety or whatever (something I agree everyone has a right to do), then you need to be aware of the laws.
