Murray is an enigma.

I saw him turn a lot of 2-yard runs into 8 yards.

I also saw him turn several 50-yard runs into 15.

That doesn't sound all that enigmatic. He runs hard and slow and looks for contact in the open field. :)

He is the worst open field runner I've ever seen from a quality starting RB.

And he didn't look like that at Oklahoma.

My boy Bease gets a 4 year 13 mil deal (3.25 per) and you all really think that offer of 4 years 16 mil was a "reasonable" offer. :lmao2::popcorn:

That report saying that Murray will stay if we offer him close to what other teams offer him basically tells you he won't be back. Other teams will surely offer him more than the 4 or 5 mill/yr that we're willing to give him.

Well, that's what a few years in the League will do to you. I agree with you thou. The runner he is today is not what I saw at OU either.

I recall that Ricky Williams signed a deal that was almost entirely based on incentives. Don't recall specifics, but do recall that it was an incentive-based contract. Don't think there's been anything like it since.

Ricky Williams signed a horrible deal (Rapper Master P was his agent......) but I seriously doubt 90% of his base salary was incentives. And I'm pretty sure if he hit all the incentives it would have made him one of the highest paid RBs. This was not the case with the proposed contract.

I think you are missing the 4m signing bonus. This is his guaranteed salary for 2015.
His base would go up to 5m after year one.
That is less than 50% for the incentives.

I'm just trying to get Murray to stay in Dallas. If Indy offers 9m a year, at least Dallas can say they are offering 8m. It is better than the 4/16m rumored offer. If Murray has another 1500 yd 10+ TD year that is well worth the money.

A 4 million dollar bonus isn't realistic either. I likely would not exceed the total salaries you are talking about, but it just isn't realistic for a player to sign a deal in the structure you posted.

Ugh that really nails him perfectly. Good at times and very good at times but never elite and if he wants elite money let him walk.

If he wants to stay and its that important then take less money regardless of other offers.

Loyalties are unheard of in sports anymore

and I also agree with this

I also agree wholeheartedly. We develop players in our systems so we don't have to keep focusing on certain positions ever year in the draft. That's how complete teams AKA Super Bowl winners are made. Why on earth we would want to dump Demarco for a draft pick is completely beyond my level of understanding. It makes no sense to force ourselves to keep drafting rb when we have a golden opportunity to solidify that spot and focus our attention to a true area of need in the draft. Defense...

Limiting our areas of "need" going into the draft means we are on that path to another deep playoff run. The teams that enter the draft with expansive areas of need are usually the team's that hit 8-8 at best.

What does all of this mean? Signing and keeping Demarvelous removed RB from an area of need. Boom. Narrow the draft focus.

let me just expand on my 7-8 mil per from earlier. That's going to do it folks!!! The rumors are already circulating of an offer between those numbers that will be made soon. Sweetness. He will take that and we can move on to where we really need to be focusing our FA and draft attn... DEFENSE

Maybe I'm confused on the term "base salary", but I thought base salary was the minimum a player could make in a given year and could not be incentive-based. Wouldn't be the first (orlast) time I'm wrong, though

you are thinking minimum salary. Base Salary is how much a player makes for all 16 games. What was proposed was a base salary of 800k that could be as much as 8 million. So if Murray tears an ACL in preseason, he only gets paid 10% of what he would get if he played in every game.

Murray is going to get a little more than he would otherwise because of what he means to the team in the locker room, not just on the field. And I'm fine with it.

I think the Cowboys let the other teams set the market, and they match it. He seems to want to come back, and the Cowboys seem to want him back, but he doesn't know how much longer he has (just like any NFL player) and wants to get what he is worth now.
