MMQB's Albert Breer reports the Cowboys had "some concern" when Ezekiel Elliott reported to training camp at 231 pounds before pulling his hamstring.

Only the third back to go in the Top 5 picks over the past 10 years, Elliott is expected to be a panacea for the Cowboys, helping to protect both Tony Romo and a suspension-ridden defense by juicing a run game that was dominant two seasons ago. So there was some concern when Elliott reported to camp a month ago at 231 pounds. Elliott worked off some of that weight before tweaking his hamstring, and Dallas was careful in bringing him back. But to those who evaluated him, both as a player and a person, coming out of Ohio State, the biggest key for Elliott in transitioning to being a pro won’t come on the field, but in how he disciplines himself under the spotlight of being a high-profile part of America’s Team. “As a player, I loved him to death,” said one area scout assigned to the Buckeyes. “He’s the highest graded back I’ve ever done. He does everything well—running, catching, pass pro. But as far as going to Dallas, the bright lights, big city, I’ve always thought it could be tough for him. … He likes football. He also likes everything that goes along with being a star.” Elliott is 21, and the NFL is chock full of 20-somethings who play hard and, well, play hard. Some can balance it, some can’t. Elliott did it in Columbus, a stage as big as any in college football, so it’s not as if he hasn’t been in this spot before. So maybe all this won’t amount to much of anything in the long run. But there are people keeping an eye on it.

Seriously .. He'll lose that after 2-3 days of practice.
Stocky running backs tend to do that starting camp. They bulk up in the offseason and then they lean out that weight through camp. If you are arguing it caused his hamstring injury, then I get the criticism. But this makes Zeke appear to be a lazy football player, which I have gotten zero impression of since he has joined the Cowboys.

This will get overblown.

Moose used to lose 10 lbs a practice. These athletes aren't like us.

If Zeke came in weighing 245 that might be a story.

Dear everyone the point of the article is not about the actual weight he came in at, its about him coming in overweight against the coaches rules. That is the problem.

I am hoping the guy is what he appears but its not a good way to start off your first camp by not following the rules.

Dwayne Harris did the same and he turned out ok, he was also cut during the season and sent to the practice squad so its not the same...Cant do that with zeke.

I was a trade down guy.
I'm sure Zeke will be fine. He seems so versatile. I'm sure the weight is long gone.

But to those Jalen Ramsey fans, the enthusiasm for hum in the Jags camp has exploded the last three weeks. Coaches and teammates are gushing...they think they have a VERY special player.

Guess we'll see.

I remember hearing about this.

Maybe he was just doing like Demarco and drinking 2000 oz of water before each game!

There's literally not a single reference to "rules."

Last year Bryan Broaddus said on the break he was told Eddy Lacy had a serious drinking problem and that is how he gains all his weight.

If true I always found it funny how that is not a national story, had Demarco Murray had a drinking problem he would have been suspended or something.

No the point of the article was to slander Zeke. They point out that there was some concern about his weight, and he seamlessly transitions that into stories about how much Elliot likes to enjoy himself off the field. They are trying to make it out like Zeke doesn't work at his craft and cares more about off the field stuff than on the field concerns.

That is the implication though right? Each player has a weight they can not go above. I heard travis frederick on the fan last week and he was talking about how much he likes ice cream but can't eat it during the season because they have strict rules about their weight.

There is no bigger Ohio State homer than Albert Breer. I don't think he wants to slander zeke at all. Its not that big of a deal unless something else comes up down the road....then people will have this to point out and say he also didn't come into camp in shape and got hurt.
