I lost a sister in a car accident and she was wearing a seat belt. I hope others who read about Marquise Hill will wear a life vest.

Personally, I don't think it's a good idea to speculate on why he and his companion were not wearing life vests. It wasn't smart to not wear one, but aAt 24, we all thought things wouldn't happen to us. We all thought we were invincible.

With all due respect, at 24 I knew not to go boating, canoeing or jetskiing in a lake at night or day without a life jacket.

Have you always worn your seatbelt since you started driving?

Have you ever had a couple of drinks before you got behind the wheel?

Yes, to the first.

No, to the second.

I don't think anyone is saying he wasn't smart. That's not the issue. The question is why would he go out on a lake without a life jacket. And if anything (since we can't bring him back) this serves as a warning to others that you need to wear a life jacket when you go out in deep water, particularly if you're jetskiing at night.

of course, the lack of a life vest should be commented on, but alluding to it being alcohol-related when nothing of the sort has been published is just speculation.

I agree.

Man, it's super scary to drive over. I've only gone over it as a passenger, but I never look to the left or right of me. The water seems to beating against the side of the bridge.

And DE is right, that's not just a lake, that's like a sea. The size of it reminds me of the Great Lakes.

I agree.

NEW ORLEANS (AP) - A body believed to be New England Patriots player Marquise Hill was found by searchers Monday, a day after he was reported missing following a jetski accident on Lake Pontchartrain.

"The family will have to make positive identification," Capt. Brian Clark of the Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Department said. "But the body we found was that of Mr. Marquise Hill."

The body was discovered about a quarter-mile from where Hill and a female companion were involved in the accident, Clark said.

The Coast Guard were called Sunday night, Petty Officer Tom Atkeson said. The search began immediately, using boats and helicopters.

That's too young to die, and it sounds like he probably did.

From what I've read, he was a good guy... how very sad...

Absolutely horrible news.

May God give the family strength during this time.

Twenty-four is way to young.

Unfortunately, this story reminds me of the incident involving Derrick Thomas, LB extra-ordinaire for the KC Chiefs.

A simple trip to the airport and a simple accident leaves him paralyzed and eventually leads to his death all because he wasn't wearing a seat belt. The passenger in the car who wore a seat belt suffered no injuries.

Sometimes, we take for granted safety precautions, but stories like Hill's and Thomas' underscore the importance of being safe than sorry. :(

What makes this whole thing worse is it's Memorial Day!

What a way for his relatives to celebrate this day forever...

How about Jerome Brown?

Another case of a young (and very talented) guy being sorta careless and losing his life.

It reminded me of a different KC Chief, Joe Delaney. He was a RB who also drowned saving someone from drowning.

Coast Guard search continues for NFL player

A man and woman were reported falling into the water from a recreational craft about 9 p.m. Sunday. They apparently were heading to the Seabrook boat launch. The Orleans Levee Board Police said that a passing boat had briefly picked up the man, but he jumped back in the water to look for the woman.

...disturbs me a bit. Supposedly, Hill was picked up by a passing boat and then the occupants of that boat let him jump back into the water without any life preserving devices???

What about giving the poor soul a lifejacket. A hand buoy. Even a diving marker if they had one or consider staying with near him while he combed the water.

I obviously don't know the circumstances around the situation, but if I was one of the occupants in the boat the first thing I would have thought about was, "Did I just turn my back on two lives when I knew one was safe in my boat?"

That's very odd. I think there's just some confusion as to the facts here. I hope.

No kidding...I read that also and wondered "what the hell"?

If he's in the boat (if this report is true) then use the boat to go find her...or like you just said...don't let him go back in without a lifejacket...or a lifeline of some sort if he thought he needed to dive under water...

I hope so also, because that is just plain crazy! I know during an emotional event like this must have been, that people lose their rational thought process...but man!

i know the facts aren't very clear right now and all but did they (with the boat) leave after he jumped back in the water to save the woman?

...very unclear. We don't know if the occupants of the boat argued with Hill not to go back into the water. Maybe they didn't have any type of devices to either provide floation or to tether him while he entered back into the water.

But what is clear is he found the lady after the boat picked him up and he dragged her to a buoy. That implies that the boat occupants took off after he jumped back into the water. If they were there I would have expected them to have assisted in the rescue of the woman and pulled Hill back in.

Even if they did a perimeter search for her along with Hill how far did Hill swim away from them before he found her? What has been reported points to the fact that the boat was no where in proximity to Hill and the woman to assist. Disturbing in my mind.
