Report: Manziel was highest rated player on Cowboys board at time of pick

I've been asking around about this, and would love some CZ clarification on it but golden domers dont have a great track record as NFL players, unless you go way back, right?

I have had the exact same back injury and surgery so I speak from experience.

Did you?

What kind of surgery was it? I honestly don't know other some disc or whatever.

When did you have it and how long did it take to get moving around again?

They got Rodgers at the 24th pick. That is a bit different than using the 16th. Plus Manziel is no Rodgers.

Rodgers had all kind of question marks coming out...coached by the same guy who coached Harrington and other High profile busts, no competition, etc. Red Herring, if he is BPA he is BPA - 16,24,32,66

Yes, insane if they took him. We can get a QB next year or the year after if needed.

Yea, franchise QB's are just so easy to find. Not to say there is any guarantee Manziel will be a franchise QB but there are no guarantees any player at any position will pan out.

I absolutely understand passing on Manziel. It would have been almost impossible for Romo-Manziel to work on the same team. The writer above insults Jerry for citing Manziel's celebrity, but it's actually sound rationale. Draft Carr and the whole development thing could work. Draft Manziel, and First Take/SportsCenter would be camped outside Valley Ranch every day until Romo were benched. Circus personified.

The thing is, I like that. Do we really want to be anonymous like the Titans or the Texans?

I just want the football to be good along with it.

Did you have the same kind of access to top doctors, treatment and rehab? And I don't mean that in a flippant way. It is a serious question. Is it possible that Romo or any other high priced athlete may have a better chance of recovering from such injuries and surgeries than the average person?

The immediate future is not the only time period that they should be worrying about.

Spot on. If Romo were 27, yeah, there's no reason to waste a first-round pick on a quarterback. But at 34…? It's naive not to consider the move.

Unrelated to Manziel or any quarterback prospects, I do worry that our camp is using too much wishful thinking with Romo's ability to come back full strength. Didn't Garrett say something about him being a young 34? I dunno, it just kind of feels like we're burying our heads in the sand to some degree.

Back when Romo was 27, yeah, he was a young 27 with little wear on the tires. It's like a four-year-old car with 12,000 miles on it-- almost brand-spanking new. But here is is having had a punctured lung, broken collarbone and back surgery in recent years. I don't know that we can continue calling him "young" for his age. On some level, things seem to be catching up with him.

Nobody knows how long he's going to play. You're short-window guess is just as good as Jason's "forever young" outlook.

Johnny Manziel isn't going to be the last QB to ever enter the draft.

He may be the last top QB that drops in their lap for several years. What the heck, Jerry will scratch around for ten years before finding a QB to replace Romo. Those years will be fun.

again dogmatic thinking
I heard this earlier today and it just got reported on The Ticket here in Dallas: Johnny Manziel was the higfhest-rated player on the Cowboys board when they drafted Martin. They skipped over him due to Romo.

Insane.

Not a red herring. Where a player is drafted impacts salary and possibly the length of a contract. Those things are pretty important. Sure Rodgers had some question marks. Height, arm strength and size weren't any of those questions.

we know you hate romo. We know you love the thought of what might happen We get it.
You are getting boring saying it again and again

If you guys want a QB, two winning qb's in the toughest division in college will be available. McCarron and Murray. Book it. Murray in the 5th.

I cant lie I felt bad for jf last nite! When the cowboys were up and he was available you could tell he was really hoping dallas picked him. He wanted to play here bad.

Yes. He sure did.

I guess Dallas didn't actually take the BPA on their board at #16. I know that makes quite a few brains explode.

Top rated QBs drop every year to the Cowboys. Should be no problem picking up another Quincy.

Why don't you ask Troy Aikman?

BTW-My surgery was done by one of the best nuerosurgeons in Houston

Its a news article claiming they didnt follow the board - Manziel is really secondary. If Garrapolo was rated higher - same thing

Its also a news article that does not ask the question of where Martin was rated. If he was rated right behind Manziel than this entire discussion is moot.

I'll take McCarron or Murray and end the weekend with a smile on my face. This is less about JF and more about the need to groom NOW.
