REPORT: PACMAN TO COWBOYS “IMMINENT”

Posted by Michael David Smith on March 27, 2008, 8:18 p.m.

Adam Schefter of NFL Network reports that a trade that would send suspended Tennessee Titans cornerback Pacman Jones to the Dallas Cowboys is imminent.

According to Schefter, the Cowboys and Titans spent Thursday discussing the trade and should be able to work out a deal soon. Although Schefter reports that the teams are still a few rounds apart in discussing compensation — the Titans have asked for a third-round pick and the Cowboys have offered a sixth-round pick — the deal could get done within the next couple of days.

In fact, Jones could be in Dallas this weekend to announce a deal at team headquarters before Cowboys officials leave for the league meetings in Florida.

There’s still the matter of Jones needing to be reinstated. Although suspended players can be traded, merely acquiring the rights to Jones doesn’t do the Cowboys any good unless NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell allows him to play. It is unclear when or whether that will happen.

But it’s increasingly looking like if Jones plays in the NFL again, it will be with a star on his helmet.

Where theres smoke...

I just want to say that while you may not like Jones or whatever, I don't think that anyone can argue that we're better equipped than any other team to help get Pcaman back on the right path and keep him there for us, his family and himself.

Can someone please tell me if we have to take his current contract?
or
Can we renegotiate it prior to signing him?
or
Does he have to redo his deal with Tennessee before we trade for him?
or
Can we negotiate after we trade for him?

I think that could help be a deciding factor as to whether Pacman will get reinstated also. I think Goodell will see our track record with helping trouble players and give him the nod.

hope jerry is able to keep his poker face. I would be willing to give a 4, but really we shouldnt have to give more than a 5. (the 3 is a joke)

I know at one time Goodell said he was going to start punishing teams that draft these players that get suspended, etc.

I hope that Pacman stays clear of trouble, but if he doesn't, I hope Jerry has made sure the team will not pay a bigger price than Pacman for his trouble. The last thing I want to see happen is us give Tennessee a pick and then have to forfeit a pick next year because he can't stay out of a strip club.

Goodell owes us a "makeup call" after the crappy deal he handed Wade Wilson last season. He needs to assure us that, based on our program headed up by Calvin Hill, Pacman will be reinstated in time for training camp.

We should be using the Patriot's deal of a 4th round pick for Randy Moss as the starting point, and dealing down from there. Moss is a better receiver than Pacman is a CB, and Moss was not a risk to get suspended. I'd be OK with a 4, but I think a 5 is the right place to be.

Very good point.

Of course it has no bearing on this circumstance, but still.....

No but one that was fifth in YPA and second in success percentage in 2006 certainly is.

The only thing worse than looking at ints to evaluate a corner is tackles.
