franchised makes zero sense. that's a fortune.

hopefully they will agree to a reasonable long-term deal with a lot of fake money at the end.
something like 5 for 40m but with about 22m of that as bases the final 2 years.
please no goofy "scheduled restructure" nonsense leveraged with a massive bonus.

keep it simple.
10m SB
yr 1: 1m
yr 2: 4m
yr 3: 6m
yr 4: 10m
yr 5: 12m
5 years 43m sounds really rich....
Really a 3 year 21m deal. That's a HUGE raise for a guy on a 2m per year deal but also keeps arguably our best DL.

Someone forward to Stephen please. This looks right on the money to me.

You gotta ask your self if you resign a 32 y.o. Hatcher, do you risk not having enough cap space to resign Dan Bailey next year plus Tyron Smith and Dez Bryant after the 2015 season(2 of our offensive cornerstones)

I wouldn't want to see him here more than another two years, tops. xwalker pointed to the Cliff Avril deal from this year, which would be great if the market ends up falling that way again. Last year may have just been a fluke.

I think he blows away the Avril deal, personally. He's going to finish the year with 15+ sacks from the DT position. He wants a big payday, and he's putting up an AllPro year. He's already mentally out of town. I'd say there's no more than a 5% chance we can keep him unless the tests the market and it's just not there at all and we're willing to give him money slated for somebody else.

We gotta find a way to restrict him and trade him.

I'd love to keep him but he has all the classic signs of a red flag.

Despite recent history with some poor extensions, particularly Ratliff, we must extend Hatcher.

Our DL is absolutely horrible. Ware has not been productive at DE; all the other DEs are JAGs if that, and the DTs are just streetwalkers. Hatcher is far and away our best DL. We need to look for DL players in free agency and the draft...we need DTs and at least one DE. We cannot afford to let Hatcher walk on top of that.

Let Hatcher walk and you are looking at spending a quality draft pick just to hold steady, much less get better. Hatcher has plenty left in the tank due to being a rotational guy for most of his career and is excited to finally have a position of impact. He won't be cheap, but he'll be reasonable, I believe, and we need his play and leadership.

If they have cap space to consider re-signing Hatcher, then they have cap space to consider signing alternate Free Agents.

Wish we could keep him but I think he's a goner. Jerry will trust Marinelli to continue to work magic with the younger guys.

Agreed. There's no way we keep Hatcher.

A shame. I love the player. Contract year or not. He's been a real leader on this team for a couple years now.

I don't know that any amount of magic can replace three starters on the defensive line.

Franchise tag. You can almost write it down already. It was good to see him talking to Dez after that long fumble loss. That is what team leaders do.

we wont have 8.5 million to pay him for one year. No way we can franchise him. The best thing would be to sign him to a 4 year deal, Only way we can keep him. No way we have the money to franchise.

The only problem is how much do you sign him to. He will be 32 next season and this is his bet deal.
4 year 24 million is about right to me with 8 million singing bonus. he deal will look like this.

year salary bonus proration cap hit
2014 1.5 million 2 million 3.5 million
2015 3.5 million 2 million 5.5 million
2016 4.5 million 2 million 7 million
2017 6.5 million 2 million 8.5 million

by this contract we can cut him in 2016 and be a 3 million saving or cut him in 2017 and be a 6.5 million savings.
This will give Hatcher 8 million up front signing bonus and 5 million over the next two years.
Really turns into a 2 year 13 million deal with 8 million signing bonus.

Just to make it sound better we can add a 5th year and call it 30 million but still structure it the same way.

No way should we sign him for big money up front. 2 or 3 year max we should be able to get out of this contract

Because of the way this team is built, and the cap is squeezing the throats of the management, I would suspect they do franchise this guy.

Which is perpetuating the problem of an old defensive line.

But then when Jerry found himself in the corner while painting the kitchen floor, there isn't really much to do but wait until it dries.

I wish people would understand franchising Hatcher will cost more than we will have in cap space. A franchise DT will cost 8 to 8.5 million.

Honestly I would resign him because he hasn't played a lot of football... He will be good until he's 35 or 36, the guy is a physical presence!

I like this idea ! Numbers will change, but this is exactly what they SHOULD be looking at. Short term, gives him some money to keep him happy and motivated, and he can mentor in incoming DT's and DE's that are arriveing soon : )

Because we all know of the rule of law that stops Dallas from redoing contract to free up money.
