If you think Hatcher isn't going to get much $$$ in Free Agency, you probably don't realize just how dominant of a season Hatcher is having.

8.5 if you get one more year of production like this is a hellacious deal.

Yeah, if there was a way to guarantee that production. Statistically, that's a long shot. I think he's having a career year, and I just don't think I could risk paying that much knowing that chances are, he won't repeat it. Plus, does giving him that much fit into what you're able to do with the rest of the roster.

Free is here for 3.5 next year plus his carry over from restructures and bonus. I'd let Free play out next year and waive adieu.

Actually, Free's salary next year isn't guaranteed. Just this year's.

It's a tough call for sure. Either way there are both plusses and minuses. With our track record it's hard to do it with a 32 year old player, but we have jettisioned so many players (did not even realise how many we have got rid of), that even our neucleous of players are mostly all young. Not a lot of vets left to be the vocal leaders. I hope Steven is creative and gives Hatcher a 2-3 year deal for cheapish money - but the problem is - why would Hacth agree to that ! Dammed if we do, dammed if we don't ...

Hatcher has been pointing out how he has outplayed his contract, and he's seen a lot of money flying around Valley Ranch for years to players who aren't nearly as productive as he is. I think he'll get offers the Boys can't even come close to, and he'll go to the team that offers him the most guaranteed money.

Sure. But a starting tackle at 3.5 is a good deal. I really would not cut him or extend him. If they add 2 more years on that I would not hate it but it might be time to move on and there is not going to be ton of cap savings either way.

We would have signed him already. I don't like the idea of a franchise tag on him, felt the same way about Spencer....

Hatcher (as much as I like him) is the exact type of player Dallas keeps getting in trouble with financially. A 3 year deal is most Dallas should offer.

Ok, I figured that's what you meant. Sure, 3.5 mill for a year for your RT us fine. Just saying if you wanted to replace him after this season, you wouldn't be on the hook for that.

At 75% of the production it is a fine deal. Certainly better than the 14 million for 8-10 sacks from a wde.

I could see them letting Ware go and working a deal for Hatch. I love Ware, but he's not worth that anymore. I wonder how they would feel about going into next year with Brown and Selvie. Probably have look at drafting a DE early.

We need everything along the DL. From starters to depth. A complete flush is in order and start over.

We have Crawford coming back as well. SDE - But I don't see them letting Ware go at all. This comes down to can they creatively find some money for Hatch or not.

I think they would be rightfully terrified to roll into next year with Brown and Selvie, but something has to be done about Ware's contract, and it doesn't look like he's worth restructuring anymore.

Exactly, Hatcher deserves to get paid he has been awesome. I would love to see him stay a Cowboy but this team can't afford to pay an aging player big money. IMO the only option for Hatcher to stay a Cowboy is to sign a short term contract with a hometown discount.....but I wouldn't ask him to do that. This guy deserves to get paid.

Kinda hard to completely overhaul a DL in one year though, don't you think? Especially with our cap situation. Would require drafting a number of them. Of course, they did that in 2005, and it was all right. Of course, they had two firsts. They could try to sign a FA or two, but they would have have to go cheap, which likely wouldn't get you anything better than what you already have.

Right, it would take years. I just think the Cowboys should be looking for everything. They are not set anywhere on that DL depth chart.

Sure, you can argue he deserves it, but is that how you run a team? On the one hand, you want to show players that they'll be rewarded for good play, but on the other, from a business standpoint, you can't get sentimental and overpay, or you end up with Ratliff.

I wouldn't have a problem with them letting all the older, expensive players go (Ware, Witten, Austin, etc). Not winning anything with them anyway. If they took the entire hit of their contracts in one year, it would be really tough, but then they'd have a lot of money to spend for the year after. Most likely a couple of good comp picks as well. If they drafted well the next two years, and made good choices in FA after 2014, they could restock pretty quick.
