Revisiting the Jaylon Smith pick

The Cowboys overdrafted their top 2 picks and I would even argue their top 3 picks. GM Jerry has no consequences for his decisions so this is what we get.

That being said, they are Cowboys so we have to hope like hell that they pan out. We also have to hope they spend next off-season fixing the defense.
They also drafted Dak in the 4th. Left that part out I guess.

While he was a stud on the field, right now he's as good to us as Gregory and Ro. It is a colossal waste to a team that needs playmakers. He's a player that somebody who just won the SB, that is loaded, can afford to pick.

We won't know what we got in these rookies until years down the line. I wanted Ramsey and Derek Henry, or even Myles Jack in the second round, but then again if we drafted them, the draft may not have fallen how it did and we might not have ended up with Prescott. Also, as bad as we claim our defense is, the Jags with Ramsey and Myles Jack, just got lit up for nearly 40 points by the Chargers, so those guys aren't a panacea. If Jaylon turns up, then we'll have a steal. The problem though is that we'll only get 2 great years of production since next year he'll have to get acclimated to the game. We could have had Noah Spence, but then again he might be on the sidelines. If you want to blame someone for not getting Noah Spence, blame Randy Gregory and Demarcus Lawrence. 2 of our second rounders are sitting due to drugs, so no way would they go for another guy with a potential drug problem. I didn't really care for the Smith pick at the time, but whatever, the rest of the draft made up for it.

Regenerating? Yes. Firing? No.

I get the feeling folks are mistaking regenerating with the nerve actually firing. If the two, some regeneration should be expected, but it firing and allowing an athlete to move the way he needs to is an entirely different question.

It's uncertain whether or not it is firing yet. He was asked by McMahon last week and he appeared to answer yes but it was a multiple part question. Just because it starts firing doesn't mean it comes back strength wise all at once.

I've got nerve damage in my wrist and it always caused me issues during the offseason while weight training. I felt like I never got back up to 100% with it. I can only imagine what this young man is going through with a knee and how it will affect his game. The chance he gets back to 100% his previous form have to be close to 0. Still though, 90% his former self is still probably NFL caliber.....

Myles Jack is a 2nd round pick so I think he's got a longer leash as far as getting accumented but at the same time I'm not one of the ones calling Zeke a bust. I do think it's a bit scary that we spent a #4 pick on a running back though and 2 weeks in he hasn't exactly been a world breaker. I think he was pitched to us as the most NFL ready player in the draft. But I think he's shown flashes and will be fine in due time.

Zeke will be ok, people are expecting him to put up video game numbers and that is just not realistic.

Yes after trying to trade up for Paxton Lynch and then again for Connor Cook. But you're right, they knew all along.

Always funny seeing people say that kind of stuff. Can't question Smith over Spence because they ended up with Dak. Because of course those two things have anything to do with each other. Can't question Gregory over F. Clark or D. Wilson over G. Jarrett either because they got Collins as an UDFA... Nevermind the fact that a lot of draftzone frequenters were wanting that before and during the draft.

Well, if it were anywhere close to being healthy, Jerry would be telling anyone who would listen, so obviously, he isn't there yet.

They did not. Never said they did. But no one else does either. Just like your ridiculous notion that you know where the other guys they drafted would have been drafted. You don't know that. You actually know less about that than they do.

And no matter what they knew they get credit for drafting a potential franchise QB in the 4th and you failed to mention it in your ridiculous list that you have no way of backing up with anything other than your own feelings.

Funniest part is that all you wanna be draftniks were so far off on Prescott. You all wanted to avoid him like the plague.

Would Smith have been there in later rounds? That's something we'll never know.

Everyone would have probably been a little happier if we made this pick in the 70's or early 80's before FA. My biggest fear and this is ironic, that Smith comes back 100% in 2 years and we get 1 good year of service out of him and he becomes a high priced FA we can't afford and one of our NFC East rivals get him.
