RG III vs Johnny

This staff would have no idea how to use RG3. He needs to go to SF.

Like most QB they have to adjust to the NFL not the other way around. RGIII came from a program that did not require him to read defense or work from under center. Washington has tried to develop him and it is not working. I think one reason some like Wentz is he has been in a program where the QB is working under center and has good footwork in his 3, 5 and 7 step drops. Some of these spread offense QB are just not going to develop and I don't think a team should change their entire offense to accommodate a backup QB. You bring in a player and you teach him the system and allow him to develop within the system. Funny people love to talk Landry here but he was a systems guy he expected players to learn and be able to operate in his system not the other way around.
I don’t think this offense is as much Romo friendly as some claim I think Romo ability to read a defense to make calls at the line of scrimmage to attack the defense based on their alignment is what makes him productive.

Most don't. The idea is to get similar skillsets and run the same offense.

It is exceptionally difficult to have two different types of QBs trying to play the same offense. It is even more difficult to have to tailor an offensive structure to fit a different set of skills once the install of the system has been completed in the offseason. You can take things out to simplify it, but the core cannot change that radically. There is just not enough time during a season.

That is one reason why you will see teams try to get the same type of player with their backup as they have with the starter. They will not be identical but enough qualities are similar to allow them some latitude.

Some teams do have a pocket passer with a mobile backup, but it is not very common and most of the time that happens it is out of circumstance, not a plan.

One it is hard because most young QB are out of programs that do run the spread offense. I do not think you so much change the offense as you call plays that the backup is more comfortable in, I think there are some plays that one QB will be more comfortable running than the other.

There are only two years separating them and RG3 isn't nearly as big of a headache.

RG3 is a much better choice. Especially if he can be given time to really recover properly.

Leave Public Relations to 3rd string QB Robert Griffin III who hasn't won a start in years, and games for Mr. John Manziel who proved in 2015 that he can win on the pro level.

I am looking at talent with upside . Johnny is only 23 and he wants to be a Cowboy. He has the ability to make plays on the run and he has a good chance of maturing. He was on the Browns. That one factor is enough to make anybody want to drink. The Browns have ruined more QB careers than any other team. I can't blame Johnny for wanting out of that dump. Two years on the bench and the media will leave him alone and

While RG3 is older, there really is no comparison with talent. RG3 has a stronger arm, is faster despite the injuries and actually had some success in the NFL. I'll admit I don't know if his lack of pocket awareness is fixable, but from a talent perspective, it's clearly RG3.

Uhhhhhh if jerry Jones picked up Manziel now considering the even newer things JM has done, then this team deserves every bit of bs it gets

Texas (which means friend) is known for it's Steers and Queers but the Cows aren't very happy about that. Afterall, it smells the same when it comes out in the end.

Mooo!

Michael Irvin REALLY wants the Cowboys to be Johnny's saving grace.

This staff showed that they couldn't teach their own offense to a backup that hadn't been in the scheme for 9 years so they certainly won't be able to work with a qb like rg3 that is not a pocket passer to begin with. The point of "you don't change your scheme for a backup" is why rg3 would be a bad fit. Bottom line is our base offense is so easy to read as stated by multiple defenses that if you don't have someone to completely change every play presnap AND create an extra 3 seconds in the pocket to get receivers open on broken plays...you get a 4-12 team.

Question: With news coming out that Johnny is done in Cleveland what do you think about the cowboys signing him, the internet would explode, Cowboys would have a story line following a 4-12 season, and Jerry would break his jaw smiling at the press conference!
Babe Laufenberg:
The internet would explode and I would think so would Jason Garrett's head. And Jerry would break his jaw because someone in the organization would punch him (and I recommend that be a family member, as they could possibly still keep their job). Repeat after me -Johnny Manziel is not coming to Dallas. That said, I also remember the words of Nick Saban when he was the Miami Dolphins head coach.. "I don't know how many times I have to respond to rumor and innuendo...I am not going to Alabama."

I volunteer my services for the punch in the face.

If we didn't have the 4th pick, this is the route I'd go. I think he has at least a chance of becoming something as opposed to Johnny Manzidiot.
