Look at the size of those hands. This dude can really catch the ball. His only problem transitioning to the NFL is learning to run routes. If we hit on this guy and he replaces Witten than this Draft is a home run.

I love this pick. It's uncharacteristic for our War Room minds to make this kind of pick. He's a great project that can pan out to really add some oomph to an already stellar draft a few years down the road. It'll be fun to watch him develop.

Interesting prospect, for sure. You have to wonder, though, if this kid could have been signed as an UDFA. He'll definitely be one of those interesting camp watches, for sure.

UDFA Tight end who wants to start behind Witten, Escobar*, Hanna, and Swaim? He would never have signed here.

I just have to expand on this little caveat because it clearly highlights the things I witnessed for 3 straight days. Our front office was on point this year and very strategic in filling needs through the draft. This was the first draft in a very long time for me that was a real pleasure from start to finish. You nailed it here. Rico would have never signed as a UDRFA here given the log jam at TE. So we nabbed him with an inconsequential pick in the 6th. Two birds. One stone. We get a guy that we were interested in who would not have signed outside of the draft process and make him feel wanted (albeit behind the log jam) by drafting him. Brilliant.

I'll take a Julius Thomas.

Meh. He didn't look very special in Jacksonville last season even after he returned from injury. Makes you wonder if he was just another system product from Denver. To be clear, I won't bet against the guy just yet but he was underwhelming last season.

He had 49 catches and 5 TDs on a new team after missing a lot of training camp and a quarter of the season.

Compare that to Witten who played a full season.

With no viable QB, but thanks anyway.

He'll also need to learn how to take a hit.

And block. And understand formations. Motions. Etc.

This isn't just a lump of clay - the clay is still in the ground. It will take a lot of work to get Gathers to the point that he can be a viable member of the team. I'm intrigued, but he has a serious uphill road ahead of him.

Lol he hasn't been getting dumpoffs his whole career with Romo? Think before you post.

Unfortunately, your love for Thomas has rendered you incapable of seeing the whole picture from last season and you've somehow managed to equate that to Witten's career. I'd discuss it further with you but your obvious ineptitude makes the conversation pointless. Snuggle with your Thomas teddy bear.
