Rico time?

I read where Jerry Jones was quoted as saying Rico Gathers might find his way onto the 53 with Randy Gregory out for a year. Do you think we would see him active on game-days in the playoffs if so?

Bryan: You wouldn't activate Gathers unless you believe he could help. This is one I am keeping an eye on, because with the way they've struggled at tight end since the injury to Geoff Swaim, they've been looking for a match with Witten and Gathers could be it.

David: Maybe I’ll wind up looking foolish, but I’m not buying it. The line on Gathers is that he’s come a long way in the nine months he’s been here – but he still has a ways to go. I’m not sure you want to lean on a guy who has so little experience in a playoff game. The Cowboy are in a bind with just Jason Witten and Gavin Escobar on the roster right now, but I think it’s more likely they try to make do than call up Gathers.

I'm really interested about his raw abilities and how they'll transfer over to his game...

But yeah, this isn't really the time or place for a young, raw player to make his debut. I'd definitely be using him as a "jack of all trades" type guy in training camp and see what he excels at the most.

Nor does he have collegiate, or even high school experience. I can't imagine that the coaches would think he's ready.
The Seahawks starting LT is a rookie and was a college basketball player. He played 2 football games his final year of college at TE.

I'm just saying you can give him that janky martelleus Bennett screen they used to run and he could rumble

Perhaps they're starting him out of desperation...I really don't know. I simply doubt that Rico is ready to play, especially in a playoff atmosphere. But that's just my opinion. It could be that he is such a great athlete and quick study that he could prove me wrong. I was wrong once before in my life, after all.:)

George Fant was on the team and practicing for his final collegiate year, plus played in Jr High. Gathers had zero football experience the first day of Cowboy practice.

Yes, but if Gathers played it would be as a 3rd string backup TE, not as a starting LT.

Either way the Fant story is quite impressive.

The one time I was wrong was the time I thought I was wrong...;)

Not saying Fant isn't impressive. Just not compatible, first year, to Gathers.

Fant was a football player needing refinement. Gathers needed someone in Dallas to teach him how to put the pads on.

i dont get the fascination with this guy.
He has zero NFL experience. I really dont think the playoffs is a good place for him to start

I thought it was already established we are abandoning logic in all Rico threads. Hes big and jumps high and we like him alot, youre just gonna have to deal with that.

I feel like having a proper blocking TE is so important to this offence, why not try him? Do we really need Sanchez at this point? Cut him! If we lose both Romo and Dak this team is done anyway

Im fairly certain Beasley could do as well as Sanchez back there.

Gathers has now spent more hours with a football team than Fant likely spent with his college team.

???

Isn't that compatible to stating a 3 year vet has more hours in than a rookie? Fant played football for years prior. Gathers has not.
