Rico's catch

He actually got going quick once he got the ball.
Yea - that's pretty good acceleration up the field for a guy that size.

An explosive first step will always be more important for him than top speed, same as it was for Witten. I don't know that we've seen enough of Rico to know whether he has it or not, but that's what will help him get separation and accomplish anything after the catch.

I know it was just one play, but just like last week, it was a big play that we need to see more of. With Swaim's emergence, adding Rico as a weapon would make the TE position go from a weakness to a strength. If we can't make Rico a red zone threat, then make him a chain mover. I know he's green, but he's like a big bull out there catching the ball.
I hope they incorporate him more...

Swaim is decent.

Jarwin is a straight up JAG. That was a TD in Jarwin's hands and he showed that he has cinder blocks at the ready.

hes been open and missed quite a bit on chunk plays this year.if Dak can get in sync and start looking for rico, he might develop into that specialty guy we envisioned..

I like that Rico is just quietly keeping his head down and trying to prove to the coaches that he needs to be elevated on the depth chart.
He may be the starter soon. I like what we are doing this year with the tight ends. We are using 2-3 tightends almost exclusively and I LOVE THAT. Rico can be a weapon from those sets.Swaim has only gotten better each week. Jarwin needs to step it up. Rico is surpassing him.

I don't know why Jarwin is even out there at this point. Especially over Rico

Because these coaches hate Rico.

It's obvious to anyone that Rico is at the least as good as these other guys with far more upside.

We were told that the others could block better. Well that is laughable. Rico is probably our best blocker on the team.

The only thing they can hold onto now is Rico may miss an assignment but I've watched Swaim miss key assignments plenty this year.

Jarwin... Anytime we throw the ball his way something bad happens.

Rico will make some spectacular momentum changing plays if they will just let him play.

Yup. This 1000%.

its happening. We will need him this week. This will be our first road win in a hostile environment.

Bill Parcells just dialed in and cautioned about anointing him just yet.

I have been a critic of Rico and still am, but his catch looked different to me. In this case, He ran a route accurately and was rewarded with a catch. That may sound simple, but he has looked lost all along. That play looked “normal”, like a semi-regular should look

A step in the right direction
What’s not normal is his size and the natural skill he has in this game that came from basketball.

Basketball players are superior skill wise and many of those skills translate well.

Jarwin sucks. Can't block and he can't catch. He dropped a pass that hit him right in the hands. that would have gone for a big play. Rico at least hasn't dropped a pass that hit him in the hands so far.

Rico should be our #1 pass catching TE threat.
anybody notice who the TE's were out front blocking on Dak's TD run? Hint, there were two of them and Rico wasn't one of them.

Gronk has WR speed for his size, Gathers is weird because he was a basketball player but has horrible speed and athleticism. 6'8 and 270 means he's a freight train to bring down, though.
4.68 at his pro day. Details is not your thing.

Yeah Gronk though was like 4.68, and Rico 4.75 in the 40... that is a pretty small margin when you get up in that range. Rico being a good bit thicker then Gronk.

But, I think Gronk probably got a lot faster since those times. Maybe not though, with his injury history. I would imagine Rico got faster since that time though.
gronk is more athletic, with his footwork and route running ability. at this point, there is not much to Rico's route running. what would be interesting is the speed for 3 cone drill, that shows change of direction ability, that's what sets the recievers apart, ability to stop, change direction and get going fast to gain separation. right now Rico can run straight ahead with only one simple cut at best.

Does it appear the guy runs in slow motion? if this is 3 years development not sure it's worth the roster spot.

We know 2 positive things about Rico..

1. He is incredibly tough to bring down.

2. He can bring down a football in traffic.

Rico has real potential and the coaches are fools for limiting it.

Also, we were told Rico can't block and that has been so far from the truth. Especially compared to how poor of a blocker Swaim has been this season.

Jarwin should never see a play over Rico. Nothing good happens when Jarwin is tossed the football.
rico can only run a simple route and his ability is his size, but that will only go so far. he can't run any complicated routes and gain separation. we saw last week, that a safety can stick his hand in there and knock the ball. even in the Jags game, it was a simple route. that type of route running, may work in the beginning, few weeks of game tape and they know what to expect and he will be negated.

he is a gadget at this point and unless he gets better, he will remain a gadget with limited use.

regarding his blocking, it wasn't about his ability to block, at that size he can just get in people's way, but it was knowing his assignments for blocking, even in preseason, he at times, was blocking air.

I like that Rico is just quietly keeping his head down and trying to prove to the coaches that he needs to be elevated on the depth chart.
quietly? really...he was told to shut up...he was twitting about taking over NFL....come on dude
