Rico's catch

Rico's YAC potential alone makes me want him to get at least 3 targets a game.

As much as I'm not a fan of TE screens, I'd probably try one with him and see how it goes. Playcalling has been more creative anyways, we're slowly figuring it out.

He protects the ball and is hard to bring down. The game will start to slow down for him. Dak is looking his way, but is really liking Swaim. Been a few games now the he is getting Swaim for a big play early in the game.

Because these coaches hate Rico.

It's obvious to anyone that Rico is at the least as good as these other guys with far more upside.

We were told that the others could block better. Well that is laughable. Rico is probably our best blocker on the team.

The only thing they can hold onto now is Rico may miss an assignment but I've watched Swaim miss key assignments plenty this year.

Jarwin... Anytime we throw the ball his way something bad happens.

Rico will make some spectacular momentum changing plays if they will just let him play.

It’s time for Rico to be the #1 TE. I hear his blocking used as an excuse for why he’s not on the field more. Well you bring up Witten. The last few years of his career he was an atrocious blocker. If he wasn’t missing blocks, he was either getting holding calls or false start calls due to cheating. Why does Rico have to be a Swaim level blocker? Rico is exactly the kind of security blanket that Dak needs. Rico as a developing 1 and Swaim as a rock solid 2 is something this team could work with.

What? Have you seen Swaim in the last three games? He is stepping up more and more. Rico still only has two catches.

We know 2 positive things about Rico..

1. He is incredibly tough to bring down.

2. He can bring down a football in traffic.

Rico has real potential and the coaches are fools for limiting it.

Also, we were told Rico can't block and that has been so far from the truth. Especially compared to how poor of a blocker Swaim has been this season.

Jarwin should never see a play over Rico. Nothing good happens when Jarwin is tossed the football.

Rico still looks raw as all hell to me. I think they probably brought him along slowly for a reason. That said, he's also an obvious physical mismatch.

I had higher hopes for Jarwin to start out, but he's not taking advantage of his opportunities. If it's me, I start giving Rico 50% of those looks and see what he can do with them. As long as he delivers, keep loading him up. By Thanksgiving you can have two legit options at TE, and by year end he might be that impact player on offense besides Zeke and Beasley that we really need.

rico snap counts going up:

week 1 - inactive
week 2 - 5
week 3 - 5
week 4 - 10
week 5 - 7
week 6 - 14 compared to 22 for jarwin

He has clearly improved as the season has progressed. I went from wanting to give him plenty of time to not caring if he was cut once Broaddus said he still didn't know the plays. But at this point, he could easily be the starter next year if he keeps up this rate of progression.
Broaddus is an idiot when it comes to Rico. Nate Newton will tell you that.

Exactly what I thought (and posted in the game thread). Looks a lot more natural there. And he didn’t fumble, which I was fully expecting when he went into a crowd.
I was thinking the same thing! Yet, he secured the ball well. He almost looked like a football player!

What? Have you seen Swaim in the last three games? He is stepping up more and more. Rico still only has two catches.
Yeah I’ve seen him. He’s a bottom half of the league receiving TE. He’s serviceable, but Dak badly needs a more game breaking type TE and Swaim will never be that. Swaim is an elite blocking / #2 TE, but he’s not what an organization should hope for as a #1. Maybe Rico isn’t either, but you’ve got to put him in that position and see what you have.

Rico only has 2 catches because he’s not getting the snaps and when he does he’s running secondary routes. Rico has huge upside and if he can be developed into a legit #1 pass catching TE that’s a higher draft pick that you don’t have to use on a TE.

I know it was just one play, but just like last week, it was a big play that we need to see more of. With Swaim's emergence, adding Rico as a weapon would make the TE position go from a weakness to a strength. If we can't make Rico a red zone threat, then make him a chain mover. I know he's green, but he's like a big bull out there catching the ball.
I couldn't believe how fast he looked after the catch.
