The Bucs, Packers and Rams demise has not only made going all in a choice….it has made it mandatory and that’s why we saw the Eagles and Vikings go all in with trades and acquisitions in Quinn and Hockenson

…..and BTW, I wouldn’t say Rush was perfect …..merely pretty damn good when needed.

Excellent point, Shabazz.

OBJ is the WR we need and do not have to give up any draft capital.

This late in the season and coming off a knee injury I doubt it would be all that much money. 9 games left and counting.

He played for $1.25 million with the Rams last year.

You know Jerry thinks he's the missing piece after letting all these other players go by, he'll give him 9 million

Let’s see what happens at the end of Jan. as the old saying goes, that is when the rubber meets the road and we see what the verdict will be then. Will see if we are in the SB or will it be close to 30 years and counting.

they may know better than the fans do, but the last 25 years have proven that they don’t know better than the other general managers.

I don’t pretend to know better but let’s understand what just occurred. Almost every team that was either superior or as good as the Cowboys upgraded their rosters to win THIS year. The Cowboys are literally the only team that didn’t.

If we wer the Bills or Chiefs many of us could understand standing pat. Our defense is one of the worst against the run and our WR corp is man for man the weakest of the top 8 playoff bound teams and we lost a corner for the year

Hankerson is a nice addition but it’s not nearly enough to offset something like the Niners picking up McCafree. If the other teams didn’t improve their rosters I could see the Cowboys remain with their current roster, although they would still be inferior to the Bills, Chiefs and Eagles
They’ve been doing things completely differently for about the last 10 years. The first 15 years saw a team that couldn’t draft worth a crap and almost always went big in free agency and trades. There were plenty of big trades/ FA pickups back then. Galloway. Roy Williams. Chris Warren. Hamlin. Carr. Davis. Etc.

That way didn’t work. At all.

The way the front office works now is completely different than then. Thankfully. They have learned a lot and are much better than they used to be. Now, they pretty consistently have good rosters, the salary cap is in pretty good shape most years, and their pro personnel department does a good job finding UDFA’s, street FA’s, and RFA’s that don’t put the cap in a bind if they don’t work out.

I like almost everything about how they build team’s these days, whereas I liked little about the way they put together the 1996-2011 teams.

I do wish they would augment their excellent drafting with one or two big free agents, but that is about all that I’d do differently about building the roster. They do it very well and it is no secret. Most who doubt the Cowboys ability to win a championship have issues with team culture and if Jerry is meddling.

They build rosters well.

Like I said, I’d like to see them a little more involved in the upper end of FA, and Lord, I wish Jerry would just stop talking to the media and drop his dumb radio time… but personnel wise, it is clear what their plan is and it produces a talented roster without a salary cap in shambles.

And really, this thread and my post is regarding the roster they put together since they changed their ways about 10 years ago.

Before then, I think the fans actually did have better ideas than the team, lol.

Frankly assuming the trade talk was about Cooks as been reported. I'm glad it didn't happen. I would rather see what Washington added will do and if that doesn't work then look into OBJ's health.
Agreed. They had everything in place for a second rounder but Texans wouldn’t take on part of 2023 salary. I’m happy we stayed put. Watch cooks gets cut anyway lol

If he gets cut then they can revisit him then, but this team did not need another receiver more than D help.

I’d argue the Cooper debacle, not signing a swing OT and not doing anything to improve our run D in the offseason makes me feel the same about playoff success now as I did then.

We are actually saying about the same thing, except in this case in lieu of them getting meaningful impact FAs , use some future draft capital to acquire a proven impact player in an area of direct need.

Quality FAs are already signed by now so trading is really the last option in a season where Dak is now healthy, the running game is fine and the defense is soaring in a vulnerable NFC

we can’t give away draft capital every season but this one should merit it

You’re right. Its insane to question a team that is always contending for championships year after year! Clearly this team is without one single weakness and to make a trade to improve a perfect roster would have been silly! I think 18-2 is basically a LOCK!!
Address the specific roster points I made in my OP, and tell me which of those items you were right about.

Cooper Rush, Brett Maher, Noah Brown, Tyler Smith, Terence Steele.

Go ahead. I’ll wait.

We were all DEAD WRONG about Cooper Rush. He’s been a fantastic backup.

We were all DEAD WRONG about Brett Maher. He’s been a fantastic kicker.

We were all DEAD WRONG about Noah Brown. He’s been rock solid filling in for Gallup/Washington.

We were all DEAD WRONG about Tyler Smith playing LT as a rookie. Remember how badly we wanted a vet replacement for Tyron Smith before Week 1? We got Jason Peters but he’s been nothing more than OG depth so far. Tyler has held his own.

We were all DEAD WRONG about Terence Steele at RT. This one maybe goes back a year.

The moral of the story: we’re 6-2 despite Dak missing 5 games and other adverse circumstances. That’s a HUGE credit to the front office and coaching staff......

So maybe they’re not “SO STUPID” for not acquiring more help today?

Maybe, just maybe, they know better than us fans do? And deserve some benefit of the doubt?

Crazy, I know.
LOL hilarious isn't it. Until the terms of the possible trade for Cooks becomes public it does not matter. Watch tunes change if Houston wanted multiple picks plus a 1st or 2nd rounder being the cherry on top.

Sounds like you think the Cowboys are pretty good.

Why is that? And who gets credit for that?

Rush was the perfect storm and nothing more. He played right in to his weaknesses of a suspect arm.

The other things on your list are accurate. But that doesn't mean going all in at this juncture was wrong.

This place is called the CowboysZone. I have often thought it should be called Disappointmentville. Nothing this team does ever seems to elevate the temperament here. Even the offense biatch slapping the Bears ends up with arguments.

I swear I suspect if this team were to walk through the rest of the season, somehow win the East and get the bye as the first place team in the NFC. Then go through the play-offs like Sherman headed to the Gulf. And they meet the Bills and stifle Allen and their offense and drop 45 on the Bills for the Championship....

There would be a thread here within minutes claiming this was a fluke and let's see them do it again, or it was just dumb luck.

I think this was the exact time to put the pieces together and go for it. Just my feeling.

Draft be damned.
Cap be damned.

Patton led his 4th Mechanized, with full compliment of ground troops 100 miles in the dead of winter through the snow to fight to free Bastogne.

Just my opinion, Nav. But sometimes the best play is to push all in.
So if the Texans wanted a 1st and 2nd for Brandin Cooks, we should’ve done it?

First off, you're answering your own questions. Not speaking for me.

Most importantly, the front office is SUPPOSED to know more than the fans. The fact is 25 years of failure.

Wanna know my opinion on Pollard? In CeeDrop not being a 1?

Fans may hit 50/50 on their opinions. This doddering drunk fool has run a proud franchise into a laughingstock. No one fears the Cowboys come January.
Okay, I won’t speak for you.

Address the 5 examples I brought up in my OP. How many of them were you right about?

You thought Dak could overcome us getting destroyed in the trenches on BOTH sides of the ball?

You should learn more about football then.
Don't forget, the 49ers were without their 2 best defenders in the 4th Q when the Cowboys had a chance for the go ahead score and subsequent church clock debacle. That's a problem.

I understand you wanting to improve the roster for this season. I imagine every Cowboys fan would like the same.

On the other hand the “opportunity cost” of making a trade today to improve the roster for this season is loss of an asset (draft pick, or player, or cap space or all 3) for short term improvement.

There are trades that would have made sense for the Cowboys, but those trades were not likely offered so they didn’t happen.

There are guys still sitting at home that might be able to help us in the playoffs at a fraction of what teams were asking for in trade. Sometimes the best trades are the ones that never happen.

No. but there were other options available long before the last hour. Going all in doesn't not mean Cooks, per se.

Rams are falling apart due to lack of draft capitol left and cap ramifications. They could be irrelevant again by next year. Their time has come and gone.

Cowboys may not win it all this year but they should have a better team next year. The Cowboys are doing things right for the first time in a while with McClay, MM and DQ, making this team better.
