Ripping the front office for no trades is hilarious

I simply don't know that there was any player(s) available at a reasonable price that would have moved the needle. To find the right pieces at the right time isn't easy.

We were all DEAD WRONG about Cooper Rush. He’s been a fantastic backup.

We were all DEAD WRONG about Brett Maher. He’s been a fantastic kicker.

We were all DEAD WRONG about Noah Brown. He’s been rock solid filling in for Gallup/Washington.

We were all DEAD WRONG about Tyler Smith playing LT as a rookie. Remember how badly we wanted a vet replacement for Tyron Smith before Week 1? We got Jason Peters but he’s been nothing more than OG depth so far. Tyler has held his own.

We were all DEAD WRONG about Terence Steele at RT. This one maybe goes back a year.

The moral of the story: we’re 6-2 despite Dak missing 5 games and other adverse circumstances. That’s a HUGE credit to the front office and coaching staff......

So maybe they’re not “SO STUPID” for not acquiring more help today?

Maybe, just maybe, they know better than us fans do? And deserve some benefit of the doubt?

Crazy, I know.

WE? You must have a mouse in your pocket.

They’ve been doing things completely differently for about the last 10 years. The first 15 years saw a team that couldn’t draft worth a crap and almost always went big in free agency and trades. There were plenty of big trades/ FA pickups back then. Galloway. Roy Williams. Chris Warren. Hamlin. Carr. Davis. Etc.

That way didn’t work. At all.

The way the front office works now is completely different than then. Thankfully. They have learned a lot and are much better than they used to be. Now, they pretty consistently have good rosters, the salary cap is in pretty good shape most years, and their pro personnel department does a good job finding UDFA’s, street FA’s, and RFA’s that don’t put the cap in a bind if they don’t work out.

I like almost everything about how they build team’s these days, whereas I liked little about the way they put together the 1996-2011 teams.

I do wish they would augment their excellent drafting with one or two big free agents, but that is about all that I’d do differently about building the roster. They do it very well and it is no secret. Most who doubt the Cowboys ability to win a championship have issues with team culture and if Jerry is meddling.

They build rosters well.

Like I said, I’d like to see them a little more involved in the upper end of FA, and Lord, I wish Jerry would just stop talking to the media and drop his dumb radio time… but personnel wise, it is clear what their plan is and it produces a talented roster without a salary cap in shambles.

And really, this thread and my post is regarding the roster they put together since they changed their ways about 10 years ago.

Before then, I think the fans actually did have better ideas than the team, lol.
Agreed! And... I am 100% certain to get roasted for this, but the change happened with Jason Garret at HC.

I said it. Cry all you want, hate him all you want as a HC/playcaller, but it is my humble opinion that his 'process first' mentality was exactly what this team needed some 14 years ago. And the proof is evident in the later years and Dak's time as well.

That said, I love the games Kellen Moors has been calling this and last year. The man is superb at what he does.

I feel like we're in a new golden time for Dallas with DQ at HC, MM at HC, KM at OC - they have this team playing complimentary football, passionate and smart and for each other. It is impressive.

Lordy lord I hope we get some payoff and AT LEAST to the NFCCG!

GO COWBOYS!!

Agree with not getting Cooks. He was traded by Pats and Rams after making the Super Bowl.

Rams are falling apart due to lack of draft capitol left and cap ramifications. They could be irrelevant again by next year. Their time has come and gone.

Cowboys may not win it all this year but they should have a better team next year. The Cowboys are doing things right for the first time in a while with McClay, MM and DQ, making this team better.

True enough about the Rams. Their Modus Operandi has been to go all in every 4-5 years. They manipulate and push the cap to its breaking point through FA and trades as well as decent drafting. They field a team ready to compete in the SB and win or lose they have to dismantle and do it all over again.

I personally don’t like that drastic approach but I can’t argue with their results. Part of it makes sense because the days of dynasties are over. It’s win today and worry about the consequences tomorrow

We all like to be gms from our couch. If we were all that good we would probably atleast be scouts somewhere. It's one thing to be dissapointed, but to be annoyed we didn't give up a 1st rounder for Chubb who's been an injury prone, a 2nd for Claypool who may be the 3rd best receiver on the team? Sacrifice future cap space for Cooks who may limit future re-signs? Most of these players are available for a reason either because they're expected to be too costly to retain, have been an injury prone or underperformer, or an older veteran there for the short term and they do them a service by trading them.

Three playoff wins going on 27 years with the same front office, but how dare anyone question them. :muttley:

…..that’s all we are saying. A new real GM would at least tweak what the current FO is doing. He would keep what they do well and get rid of the antiquated methods that they stubbornly cling to.

Some of them because their teams know that they are in rebuild mode and need the draft capital to get it under way. The players they deal away are being wasted on a team that is going nowhere and all 3 party’s are gaining. Both teams involved and the player traded.

FWIW, keep in mind that the players dealt today represent just a small percentage of players that had the ability to be traded…..we aren’t going to really know which ones could have been on the block

if that’s the case, the future doesn’t look promising. In this era of football, free agency and cap manipulation is just as important as drafting well. They can’t run this business like they did in the 90’s and succeed but that’s they’re doing anyway.
my advice is group prayer.
Funny post.

About 10 minutes before this you said you won’t pretend to more more than the front office.

Then you post this.

That's all true, but I don't know if it's always a win-win. I think the Broncos got a great deal for a talented but injury riddled Chubb. The Dolphins gave up big draft capital and will have to sign him to a bigger contract. Time will tell how all these deals play out, but I think the best value tends to be for those veteran guys available for day 3 picks.

Yep, that was crazy.
Problem.......We may be DEAD WRONG that this team is a contender so early. And maybe the FO is SO STUPID and don't deserve the benefit of the doubt after 25+ years of dissapointing endings.

I wasn't wrong about Tyler Smith. I knew he could play left tackle. He's been so great! And I know he can play LG at an even higher level.

And I will admit that Jerry Jones does know a little bit about football. He has apparently learned enough to have us where we are now, and if you can't be appreciative of that, then nothing will make you happy.

I was in the vast minority in a poll that asked if I approved of Jerry Jones. And my answer was based on his moves and decisions over the past two years, coupled with his moves back to 2016.

Some ebbs and flows. But we're where we want to be right now.

Ripping the front office this year period is hilarious.

Go watch the first show on 105.3 with those guys when Stephen came on. They were acting like such morons, reacting after the first game.

Then, after the Bears (he hadn't been on in a while), he comes back on and their attitudes are completely different.

Agree with you.
