The fact that their D was on the field all day was a product of poor game planning. They were willing to give the Colts third and short situations and Addai and company ate that up. The Bears had hardly any chance to run enough offensive plays to get in any sort of rhythm.

The Bears hardly had any chance to run enough plays? Wth does that mean? You saying the sorry arse play of the Bears Off was due to the Bears D? If so, that's the dumbest thing I've read in awhile.

I'll chime in and agree with the posters here who say the defense was not the Bears problem last night. We'll see what Jerry does.

The only thing about the Bears defense that concerned me was their lack of aggressiveness. They saw fit to rush four (and watch them get swallowed up by the o-line) and take their chances in coverage... and Indy ran for 200+ yards.

I know they were on the field for nearly 40 minutes, so at some point late in the game you can almost (almost) give them a pass for the rushing yards.

I still think Dallas is lacking in defensive talent (especially up front) and that there may not be any way to scheme around that.

I guess, in the end, Dallas might as well give Rivera a shot to see what he can do.

The Bears defense look like the Cowboys defense at the end of the season.

The Cowboys are currently setup for the 3-4. Question is, with the complete and utter breakdown of the Bears defense and the fact that it would call for a complete switch back to a 4-3 defense, do you really want Ron Rivera as HC?

As much as I dislike Wade Phillips, I would rather have him. We have the talent to win. With that talent on-hand, it would be STUPID to re-tool now.

I do think the game would've played out a bit differently last night if the Bears had their full compliment of players on the field. Not having Mike Brown at safety really hurts that team. I'm sure they could've used Tommie Harris up front, too.

Did you even watch the game last night? Defense was a MAJOR problem last night. Before the game they kept saying stopping the run is our biggest priority, yet last night they were setup to stop the pass and the Colts were running for 9 yards a carry. The tackling was HORRENDOUS!

Let me let you in on the game stats. The Colts rushed for 171 yards!! Hell, everyone thought the Bears were more likely to do that! The Colts had 430 yards of total offense. The Bears defense was a HUGE factor in the loss. Their *great* defense looked a bit like roadkill last night. It wasn't completely their fault though. Early in the game they did what they do best. Cause turnovers, but when your offense stinks like like *roadkill skunk* your defense spends way to much time on the field. The Colts had a seven and a half minute drive to start the 3rd quarter. That alone spells doom for a defense.

The Bears should have never even seen the Superbowl. They slipped in during the cover of night. It's a glaring sign about how poorly the NFC is playing.

That's exactly what it is. Look what they had done to the Saints.

Not just Rivera, but Sean Payton and (if it was possible) the whole NFC look worse after last night. As impressive as the Bears' red zone D was, Bush and McAllister couldn't do against the Bears what Addai and Rhodes did. And they were doing it before the Bears' D could've got tired.

Our DC hire is still no contest if it comes down to Rivera vs. Bowles, though.

And retool an already talented defense? While both 4-3 and 3-4 defense have merit, we already have the talent for a 3-4. Dumping that and switching would be a mindless mistake. I'm not ready to dismiss our current talent, because someone wants a different style defense and we must wait 3-4 years to rebuild. I hate Wade Phillips, but I'm not stupid enough to retool our D because we want to hire a 4-3 defensive coordinator. Let's not Mike Zimmer this situation.

Stats are great, but they don't tell the whole story. 5 turnovers, TOP advantage of almost 2 to 1 (38:04 to 21:56), 81 offensive plays for the Colts to 48 for the Bears (much of that in garbage time), through three quarters Chicago had 5 first downs, and as mentioned previously, Indy scored TDs on 1 out of 6 red zone possessions.

Sounds like about the best defensive play you could hope for given the circumstances.

That said, there's no excuse for not pressuring Manning, but the defense wasn't the achilles' heel last night.
