Rob Ryan Fired per twitter ESPNDallas **merged**

They fired him by text?!? Is this confirmed?

If so, that is beyond pitiful.

This post sums this thread up nicely. Somebody get the xanax.

While I agree Garrett needs to go, I have no problem with getting rid of Ryan. His defense delivered no turnovers and very little pressure. I thought we upgraded the secondary so we could blitz more only to see us rarely blitz and when we did they were easily picked up. I thought Ryan was good a designing exotic blitz schemes designed to get guys coming free to the QB. That NEVER happened here. I think Garrett should definitely been gone first but I am not sad to see Rob go. Hopefully the lame 3 - 4 experiment is over.

Say goodbye to the 3-4?

Say hello to the 4-3 and Lovie Smith?

Unless Rob was quietly undermining Garrett, I think this means a big time 4-3 coach like Lovie, or Garrett will go in favor of a head coach with defensive background.

So the offense blows with mostly a healthy set of players and JG gets a pass. Rob does a pretty good job with 1/2 the defensive starters out and gets canned. I dont get it.

I am willing to give him a mulligan on the second half of the season but the performance was not 'pretty good.' Bottom 10 in the league in scoring and worse if you only look at the second half is what it is.

Shango says there's a rumor that Ryan called Claiborn the N word. Has anybody else heard this? He also said that's no reason the fire him. Even if it's true, I'm sure he was fired for some other reason.

No way, you can see many guys on D already posting on Twitter that they are mad about the firing of Ryan..

Ryan did nothing special in Oakland.

Ryan did nothing special in Cleveland.

Ryan did nothing special in Dallas last year.

Ryan did nothing special the first half-dozen games this year when the defense was relatively healthy and the entire offseason was focused on the defensive side of the ball. No pressure. No turnovers.

The rueing going on in this thread is great stuff.

You are correct on all accounts. I can't believe there's so much hand-wringing over an average at best defensive coach.

The same thing happened after Sherman was fired. People freaked, then found out about Robinson, and were all like, 'Oh.'

Let's hear if we had a plan for an upgrade before we lose it? Or no?

The issue for me is who was behind it.

If you could tell me unequivocally that Jason Garrett wanted this done, then I have no problem with it. I'll breathe a sigh of relief, actually. I just want our head coach to run his staff and players. Rob Ryan didn't invent defense. There are other options out there.

But if it wasn't Garrett's idea, Dallas...we have a problem.

I couldn't agree more. I simply was NOT impressed with Ryan's overall body of work. He was better for camera shots, wild gestures and confused looks than substance.

Like iceberg correctly stated, this has more to do with Garrett whining than it does Ryan's firing. I'd just like to see the topic at hand discussed. There have been countless Garrett *****fest threads already, with more to come I'm sure.

Rob didn't do great things here because he came to a team that emphasized the secondary over the front seven.

Those CBs weren't going to fix anything. Not when you have so many JAGs up front.

This.

He didn't have the defense playing aggessively... In both of his seasons here.

Last year we couldn't play man-to-man, because of Newman. This year we couldn't because of injuries elsewhere. Bah.

Hey, Rob Ryan wasnt that great. No problem with this move.

My only problem is my gut is telling me that this was the big move to quiet down the demand for changes. This is chopping off Rob Ryan's head to spare Jason Garrett. Thats the only bad feeling I have.

Punk move, if thats the case.

:laugh2: blame anyone except Jerry Jones and/or Jason Garrett.

If Garrett was the one to call him, that leads me to believe it was his decision.

Stay tuned.

The problem is that an average-at-best defensive coach is taking the fall when a bottom-5-in-the-NFL offensive coordinator and head coach was the real problem.

First the threads are there because they are earned.
Second, the main problem this team had this year was it was always playing uphill because the offense couldn't do crap in the first half.

Romo said the reason for that was because they needed the first half to figure out what the defense was doing to them. That is what the OC/HC is supposed to do in the week leading up to the game.

He can't manage a game.
He doesn't know when and when not to challenge a play.
Oh and yeah, he ices his own kicker.

So yeah, he deserves every one of the threads he gets.

Ryan was not the main issue this year especially considering he was playing with a bunch of part time janitors.

While we fire coaches/release players over the last 6 years, the only two remaining constants:

Garrett and Romo :laugh2:

Who said he didn't deserve them?

That has to be an internet rumour. No chance he could be that stupid.

Ryan deserved a chance with a healthier unit-the guy had no starters left in the middle of his defense.

Tim MacMahon ‏@espn_macmahon
Rob Ryan got the bad news from Jason Garrett while on vacation in Turks and Caicos. Uncomfortable? "I'm comfortably numb," he said.

Carlos A. Mendez ‏@calexmendez
Ryan’s defense allowed 40.1 percent conversion on third downs this year, 39.7 last year. Ranked 23rd and 22nd. What HC/OC likes that?

Jon Machota ‏@jonmachota
RT @hatcher97 It was a privilege to play under Coach Rob Ryan! One of the greatest. Sad day. I'm hurting right now.

Jean-Jacques Taylor ‏@JJT_ESPNDallas
Y'all tripping over Rob. He was average at best in 2 years. Great guy, but team forced no turnovers & pressured QBs inconsistently
