Rob Ryan Fired per twitter ESPNDallas **merged**

Not making any comment on the firings esp this one but I would look forward to having Ray Horton and Lovie Smith on board. Horton was my choice for DC.

Who said he didn't deserve them?

You seemed to mitigate the concern over the Ryan firing by intonation that the Garrett threads were undeserved. If incorrect my apologies.

Rob didn't do great things here because he came to a team that emphasized the secondary over the front seven.

Those CBs weren't going to fix anything. Not when you have so many JAGs up front.

The still doesn't excuse the sub par coaching. There are only a few games that I can point to and confidently say that Rob Ryan out-coached the opponent.

Also, I agree with you about the Cowboys putting too much emphasis on CBs and not enough on the front 7. But with the additional talent that was brought in at CB, shouldn't he have dialed up more blitzes and man coverage?

Instead we saw a steady diet of 3 man pass rushes and entirely too much zone.

He didn't coach to the talent of his team and it cost him his job.

Just throwing it out there.

:)

Adam Schefter ‏@AdamSchefter

Asked at CBS event promoting Super Bowl XLVIII whether he plans to coach again at some time, Bill Cowher told Newsday's @sportswatch, "yes."

The issue for me is who was behind it.

If you could tell me unequivocally that Jason Garrett wanted this done, then I have no problem with it. I'll breathe a sigh of relief, actually. I just want our head coach to run his staff and players. Rob Ryan didn't invent defense. There are other options out there.

But if it wasn't Garrett's idea, Dallas...we have a problem.

You're kidding, right.

Jason should have known that when he approved his hiring, I guess that he understands that now and decided to terminate him personally.

That is exactly what I expect a Jerrah fan to say.

Nope, not at all. Simply pointing out the fact that the JG threads are out there. IMO, this thread would be better served by evaluating Rob Ryan's defensive coordinator skills or lack thereof and possible replacements. Nothing more to it than that really. And of course there is no need for apologies.

Rob Ryan's signature moments: F-Bombs, too many/too few guys on the field, last in the NFL in takeaways, 3 man rushes against rookie QBs...

Take the emotion out of it. He wasn't that great.

Include "soft zone" in your list.

My point on the firing was that there were other coaches who did less with more than Ryan and deserved to get canned first. Further, I feel that if this is just an overhaul all together and we are dumping the entire staff meaning DC/OC/St then this makes more sense. But it looks like Red is staying.

I thought the D was playing hard the second half of the season.

That does not at mean that Ryan has been doing a great job as a DC.

I you look at it from Jerry's perpective--humor me here: He spent 50 million to get Carr, he spent almost our entire draft on defense, (1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 7th round picks...unprecedented I'm sure) yet the defense was still by far our weak link. 24th in the league in scoring defense. Injuries or not--terrible luck for sure and crushing--but that is how it went down.

If we can upgrade, I'm all for it.

Oh, and taking weeks and weeks of Danny McCray getting absolutely destroyed up the seams and in play action before finally starting someone else.

Just to put it out there, I think Garrett deserves to be fired as well.

I've never been much of a Garrett fan. I think he's in over his head as head coach.

He was without 5-7 starters much of the year.

Can't judge a man workin with guys he met that week.

Red has had 6 years what's his excuse?

Another brilliant move that just continues to show the Dallas Cowboys organization is FUBAR.:bang2:

Defensive Passer Rating was 92.30 through the first 6 games
