Rob Ryan Fired per twitter ESPNDallas **merged**

Why not? He played it in college. He bigger and stronger now too.

College was a long time ago and he's never played true DE in his career. He's already not great against the run, putting his hand in the dirt would make it worse. Plus our DL is a weakness for us, so why would we put more of them on the field and take an LB, which is one of our strengths, off the field

The lack of turnovers from this defense had to be a component of this firing as well.

If you don't want to get fired, don't finish 29th in the league in adjusted net passing yards allowed because your defensive schemes don't put players in position to force turnovers.
This. I can't believe th amount of people upset by this move. All the people complaining about lack of getting pressure on the qb, players confused on defense, too many men on the field and lack of turnovers and now everyone is sad Ryan is gone? I'm very happy with it.

Beginning of the 4-3? More like the beginning of a 4-12 season. The defense was the only halfway bright spot on this team and Jerry Jones got rid of that. There's no way lovie is coming here. Lovie is head coach material. He's not going to coordinate for Garrett.

Wow I'm in shock. I never really expected this. If they were going to fire him I would have believed it would be next year or later. Personally, I'm hoping for a 4-3 defense. This offseason got a whole lot more interesting that's for sure.

I don't understand why people think he can't play end. If anything it makes him more effective because he will never have to drop back in coverage. People forget Haley I guess. I like the move. What good is a 3- 4 if not used for blitzing. I have not been impressed by Rob Ryan. Here's to hoping we bring in a good 4 - 3 coach. I have never liked the 3 - 4.

I'm livid. Robs D was carrying our team throughout the first half of the season before the unit got decimated by injury. Even when our unit had the injuries those guys played hard for him.

I just lost a lot of respect for Garrett, this is not the first time he's been accused of throwing coaches or players under the bus to save his *** either.

Yes. Terrell Owens. Voice of the truth.

So Tony Romo and Jason Witten really did have super secret meetings to limit him in the offense?

great !!!! I never understood his defensive calls, no blitzing, no adjustments, always getting caught with too many men on the field or having to use a timeout, his players were always confused (well I cannot blame all of that on him, with players like Sensabaugh, and McCray,) Spencer and Ware in pass coverage, I just believe he and his brother were living off of their father's rep.

So Garrett should be afraid?? almost last in running the football, turnovers and penalties.

....and the offense?
OK we aren't even halfway thru January yet. Can you be a little more patient. I'm sure it's coming.

I think he and Sean Lee have great chemistry and he had the most productive unit on the team IMO and played with scraps all year after the injuries.

Gotcha. Thanks for the answer.

Spags just said that Jerry was upset about the defense not playing well early in the season, specifically Seattle, and Chicago when the defense was healthy.

Well Jerry is an idiot. Romo threw up 5 interceptions against Chicago. Geez, this has me really worried that Jerry has ANY say whatsoever.

Unless Garrett just couldnt work with Rob any more because of personal disagreements this move sucks. Rob lost his best players, coached a bunch of backups and gave us a chance to win the NFCE. It was Garrett and his offense that cost us a chance to make the playoffs with his offense coming up short and his clock management.

edit: not saying rob was perfect but he did a better job coaching this season than the guy who ran the team IMO

That's a good point and Lovie's Bears D was all over taking the ball away.

MY initial reaction is that I do not like this but until I hear who the replacement is I cannot denounce the move. Still too early to call.

That wasn't my point...
