Because he came in lacking upper body strength and his bulk was his asset.

His feet were slow.

He couldn't hold the edge rusher down and is more suited to body fight a guy with garbage going on to the left and right of him.

I just hope he's learned some kick step techniques or he's going to get roasted as a Right Tackle as well.

If those long arms aren't strong they will just be pushed away.

What?? Everything I've read aws the complete opposite.

I hope Brewster turns out to be a good one but it is still way too early to know how this will pan out. Looking forward to pre season to see how he does. In the meantime I don't think this changes what Dallas will do in the draft.

This means Brewster has moved one step closer to being a bust. You know it's bad when they don't think a guy can compete at the position he played in college.

They always announce they are going to move players who aren't athletic enough to play inside or quick enough to play LOT to RT. Marten got the same press, if I recall as did out of shape Larry Allen in 2002.

Gurode was originally drafted to play guard.......

Brewster was the starting OT in college but was projected to play gaurd in the Pros Ravi does not have a clue to what he is talking about but likes being negative when he gets a chance.

In 2005, as a true freshman, Robert developed into a regular on the offensive line appearing in all 11 games while starting the first 4 games at right tackle and the final 7 games at right guard.

In 2006, as a sophomore, Robert continued to be a mainstay on the offensive line starting in all 12 games at right tackle.

In 2007, as a junior, Robert once again started in all 13 games as a right tackle. For his efforts, Robert was named First-Team All-Midwest American Conference.

In 2008, as a senior, Robert continued as a stalwart on the offensive line once again starting all 14 games at right tackle. Robert finished the season with 117 pancakes and anchored an offensive line that blocked for the nations 17th ranked major college offense (442.5 ypg), 18th ranked scoring offense (34.93 ppg), 24th ranked passing offense (258.0 ypg), and 31st ranked rushing offense (184.5 ypg). For his efforts, Robert was named First-Team All Midwest American Conference for the second straight season.

For his career, Robert started all 50 games at either right tackle or guard in his collegiate career. Robert was born on July 30, 1986, is single, and will graduate with his Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice (Summer 2009).

It blows me away how some of us can a take 1 or 2 utube clips and claim expertise on someone's skill level.

I'm sure in time he can develop but in this video he's getting pushed around by the college level. Some people around here are acting like he can replace Colombo at the "NFL Level" in the not so distant future instead of suggesting we hedge our bets by drafting another tackle in the early rounds...

Oh I agree wholeheartedly we should still draft another tackle, preferably early if we can't get Iupati. Brewster still needs plenty of developmental time after not playing a single snap last year due to injury.

I think his ceiling is probably higher than guys like McQuistan who make it a habit of getting blown off the ball in preseason.

no it wasn't, and when you can point to one guy and think it proves a point it only proves you don't have one.

Huh?

Additionally, since no one here has a sense of humor. I misspelled gaurd while calling gaurds stupid and centers smart. Meanwhile I played center my whole football life.

You can't use misspellings as a sense of humor on the internet - you should know that here on CowboysZone. People will lambast you for the composition and tone of your post - is it satire? Is it a Shakespearian comedy?

Also, I actually don't care if you played center your whole football life, just like nobody here cares that Hostile was a Fullback, or that I was a CB and FS.

even more to the point, I was speaking more towards growing up as a football player. Seeing as how everyone was speaking about how he couldn't play this spot or that spot. I was mearly intimating that since he played tackle he should be able to play gaurd because the requirements are generally greater for a tackle than for a guard.

But they aren't...they're different requirements. Pulling on counters/traps/screens, etc.

I said all that with that one phrase. And like most everything I say it went completely over heads and I get blasted for saying something I never said.

here is where he has a point if I said "all gaurds are stupid" that's a stupid comment, and one I didn't say. But you think I did, and so did he. And that is your problem not mine and it's not my job to tell you all this.

ahem...

gaurd is for guys too stupid to play center and not athletic or fast enough to play tackle.

Dude, you got owned. You tried to say guards were less-athletic dumb guys and he bounced Larry Allen off your face. Just take it like a man!

And of course, history is ALWAYS an accurate predictor of the future...

I'd be more impressed if you had some concrete reason for thinking that, as far as I'm concerned saying "history is on my side" just means you don't have any real reasons for holding that opinion...

Free was nothing for two years? He didn't play except for preseason, when he looked pretty good.

Don't act like a light came on. There was just no way of knowing until he was put into the starting lineup. Yet, some people just had it all figured out, didn't they?

It's crazy ain't it? With all these guys in here who know so much more than the people who do this for a living I've began to wonder more and more every day why they're sitting on the internet telling us all how they don't see quick feet, or that a guy simply can't be good enough to do this or that, while the people who are getting paid to do this are saying the exact opposite.

It's amazing. I wonder sometimes why all these experts we have aren't on an NFL teams payroll, sharing their expert advice on the ability of these players, making a real nice living instead of on an internet message board trying to convince the world that they actually have any real clue what they're talking about.

My absolute favorites are the guys who played high school football who think that means they have a clue what it takes to be a NFL level player at the position by played in some high school program. Those guys are the best.

Kyle Kosier is easily the smartest guy on our line, IMO

I'm still not sold on Free at LT... Behind QB and FS, LT is the hardest position to play in the NFL to me.

I'm not absolutely positive that Free at LT is going to work either, but I do feel sure that it is worth a try.

Like you said, LTs are difficult to find. If you have a guy who shows some promise of being able to handle that job, you owe it to yourself to see if he can actually do it.

to be fair, gurode supposedly has two degrees.

Really, and I love to say it, generally speaking the smartest men on the team are o-linemen.

a dumb guard>a smart fullback.

Nice one, but I prefer that picture of him during the Giants game. The one where he is still in his stance after the ball is snapped. A Proctologist Classic.

Where did you see this Hos?

I'm not sold on him being a RT. His pass blocking was suspect and he didn't have the greatest strength in the world, on that right side he'll be facing some tanks. From his interview it sounded like he was working hard though so maybe he really beasted it in the offseason. You don't catch up from a torn pec in less than a year though, especially a professional athlete. Their decision to try him out at RT is definately interesting, they surely know more than we do about him. He must have shown some nimble feet to go from a guard prospect to a tackle. I guess we'll get a more conclusive look at him in preseason as to his aspirations holding down the right side.

You don't have to see it. He was drafted as OT, practiced as a RT and the only move to guard speculation has been by media members.

Wade, Garrett, nor Houck has said they were so much as thinking of the switch.
