Rod Smith

If our coaches had half a brain, they would use him like Parcells used Richie Anderson. He can block as a FB, run as RB, and he is good pass catcher.

He could be the utility guy that can play FB, RB, and H-Back. With little creativity, he could be very productive. Especially on third downs. Instead of Witt getting looks on third down, they should use Rod.

I like Rod, but all he’s proven is that he might be a good change-of-pace/situational RB.

The acid test, which none of us really wanna see is: could Smith be a successful #1 if (knock on wood) Zeke was lost for an extended period?

As it is, and until proven otherwise, RS is roster depth, with a potential upside.

Sorry Bro, don't seem to have likrs to give yet. Anyways, good idea about using Rod n th passing as a HBack type player cause he has th hands. Cowboys coaches have to get creative with this talent they have.

Oy...

Rod Smith is a young stud RB who should only improve with the added experience that he's likely to benefit from.

He constantly plays with good energy and intensity. I just can't wait to see him perform in the season yet to come.

You can easily find a RB who would be an upgrade over Smith in rd 4-5

Let's stop settling for guys who "showed us something"
Yeah, best not hold on to those guys who "show us something". Let's spend a draft pick on an rb who "might"show us something.

Yep
Let's hang on to those guys who made 1 play in the season rather than trying to look to get better

I'd rather let Rod build off of last year than spend money on Rex Burkhead. Who will essentially serve Rod's role. But at a steeper price.

Lol, some folks are just draft pedigree sniffers. If Smith was a 3rd round pick and produced/showed the same things he did last year they'd be stoked.

He was just ok IMO. A little wild and reckless. I wish he had more speed.

Yeah. I don't see him as complementary as much as just not as good. Still, pretty good for a backup. Well rounded. I'll take him.

I don't know how "easy" it would be. A good chance, but no guarantee, and that guy would take a year or two to be fully functional.

Smith is a good backup, but I definitely want another 4-5 rounder RB this year. Time to move on from Morris, and get a backup with more potential upside. And definitely more speed than Smith.

That's always the plan for me at RB. Churn mid round guys until you hit on one. We've got plenty of mid round picks this year, so it's the perfect time to start that churning. If we get lucky, we don't have to sign Zeke in free agency.
