18 per year for Tony is far fetched.

The Raven's paid too much and ultimately I don't think Flacco sees a large chunk of that.

If Rodgers and Brees and Manning are 20M per year, Romo isn't 18. Not that it really matters what it averages if most of it is unobtainable.

Love romo but this team cant compete with or without him. Just not worth it to pay him and spencer when we cant compete. The whole team and coaching staff just isnt that good. We need to trade him and spencer and rebuild. Build on our young talent and move on. The nfc is way too stacked right now. It sucks but more 8-8 seasons are just going to make it worse. This team just cannot do it like so many still hold hope it can. Its just time to let go.

sign for anything less than 45-50m guaranteed and I'm sure Condon will not let him because he has other QB's ready to get theirs...

It's funny cuz the cap hit of 16 million looks like chump change compared to flacco and Rodgers

I don't know if I'm willing to give up on the year, but I somewhat share your sentiments. We have great young pieces... we really shouldn't hinder their future by investing all of our cap space in guys that have proven they can't get it done.

I'm not sure Brees got 50M guaranteed.

I think that's a ridiculously unreasonable amount and don't see it being anywhere near that.

Did Elway finally prove he could get it done? You guys have to understand there is no future without a QB. Ask the Bills and Cards and Chiefs. You can't afford to give up on a year when you have a chance to compete for a title in a leauge where teams come back from the dead to win it. You simply have to play out the string with Romo until you have to move on.

Elway had how many playoff wins? How many Super Bowl appearances before winning the BIG Game?

How many playoff wins does Romo have?

I bet Rodgers is closer to 24 than 20...unless they give him a ton up front guaranteed.

Flacco got 29 mill in true guarantees. There is more guaranteed for injury only . Brees got a similar deal with 40 mill in guarantees.

All of these deals are, in reality, 3 year deals with the back ends full of big salaries that force you to either talk extension or convert salary to bonus and add a few fake option years

Brees got 40 guaranteed but another 20 guaranteed for injury.
So I guess you assume 40, but it's better than as far as covering his rear.

BTW. No chance Romo is getting 45-50 guaranteed unless he takes an very low overall average.

I dont know the franchise number or cap hit, but a franchise tag in 2014 and 2015 and then cutting bait with Romo to me is far better for this franchise than sinking $40-50 million into a long term deal for QB who will be 33 in April and has won 1 playoff game as a starter. And I like Romo...

So Brees, Flacco, and Rodgers are all at 20 mill a year.

I honestly cannot see Romo's agent trying to use those contracts as comparable. You can point to Passer Rating etc. all you want. But the following is just so damning

Flacco 9 postseason wins, 1 SB
Brees, 5 postseason wins, 1 SB
Rodgers, 5 postseason wins, 1 SB
Romo, 1 postseason win, 0 SB

I would think he would get slotted closer to Cutler and Stafford anyway--but their deals aren't done yet either. There are a bunch of them all pending right now.
I assume Romo gets 17/yr with 35 guaranteed.
I do think he can play at this level (maybe even better for 1-2 years) over the next 5 years.

Guess we'll see.

By the beginning of this year, there will be about 10 QBs making > 16/17 mil/yr

Rodgers, Flacco, Brees, Manning1, Manning2, Ryan, Stafford, Romo, Cutler, Roethlisberger....If you just look at guarnteed dollars, Brady is up there too becasue he deal will be reworked going forward.
Sanchez makes about 12/yr average.
Bradford averages 13 mil/yr
Freeman's contract is pending too. If they extend him (big if) he's probabaly get 13 or 14 himself.

I'm still predicting 5 years $85-90mil with 40 guaranteed.

Too much or not, that is what the market dictates.

We can all argue that Romo is not worth more than a bag of chips but, given the options, he has to get paid. It can be a reasonable contract now, or an obscene contract later.

Here is the agents counter to that:

When the Ravens won they had a 80.6 defensive passer rating in the 2012 season.
When the Saints won they had a 68.6 defensive passer rating.
When the Packers won they had a 67.2 defensive passer rating.

Last year we were in the bottom 5 in defensive passer rating, and went 8-8. The other 4 teams went a combined 17-47. In 2011 The Cowboys again ranked in the bottom 8 in defensive passer rating, going 8-8 in the process. The other 7 teams went a combined 37-75.

His agent has a legitimate argument that no other team is asking more out of their quarterback.
