The Raven's paid too much and ultimately I don't think Flacco sees a large chunk of that.
If Rodgers and Brees and Manning are 20M per year, Romo isn't 18. Not that it really matters what it averages if most of it is unobtainable.

We need to trade him and spencer and rebuild. Build on our young talent and move on. The nfc is way too stacked right now. It sucks but more 8-8 seasons are just going to make it worse. This team just cannot do it like so many still hold hope it can. Its just time to let go.

Ntegrase96;5029271 said:I don't know if I'm willing to give up on the year, but I somewhat share your sentiments. We have great young pieces... we really shouldn't hinder their future by investing all of our cap space in guys that have proven they can't get it done.
DandyDon1722;5029281 said:Did Elway finally prove he could get it done? You guys have to understand there is no future without a QB. Ask the Bills and Cards and Chiefs. You can't afford to give up on a year when you have a chance to compete for a title in a leauge where teams come back from the dead to win it. You simply have to play out the string with Romo until you have to move on.
I bet Rodgers is closer to 24 than 20...unless they give him a ton up front guaranteed.Hoofbite;5029258 said:18 per year for Tony is far fetched.

I think that's a ridiculously unreasonable amount and don't see it being anywhere near that.
Brees got 40 guaranteed but another 20 guaranteed for injury.Hoofbite;5029278 said:I'm not sure Brees got 50M guaranteed.

I would think he would get slotted closer to Cutler and Stafford anyway--but their deals aren't done yet either. There are a bunch of them all pending right now.rpatricc;5029297 said:I dont know the franchise number or cap hit, but a franchise tag in 2014 and 2015 and then cutting bait with Romo to me is far better for this franchise than sinking $40-50 million into a long term deal for QB who will be 33 in April and has won 1 playoff game as a starter. And I like Romo...

I assume Romo gets 17/yr with 35 guaranteed.
I do think he can play at this level (maybe even better for 1-2 years) over the next 5 years.
Guess we'll see.
By the beginning of this year, there will be about 10 QBs making > 16/17 mil/yr
Rodgers, Flacco, Brees, Manning1, Manning2, Ryan, Stafford, Romo, Cutler, Roethlisberger....If you just look at guarnteed dollars, Brady is up there too becasue he deal will be reworked going forward.
Sanchez makes about 12/yr average.
Bradford averages 13 mil/yr
Freeman's contract is pending too. If they extend him (big if) he's probabaly get 13 or 14 himself.
AbeBeta;5029305 said:So Brees, Flacco, and Rodgers are all at 20 mill a year.
I honestly cannot see Romo's agent trying to use those contracts as comparable. You can point to Passer Rating etc. all you want. But the following is just so damning
Flacco 9 postseason wins, 1 SB
Brees, 5 postseason wins, 1 SB
Rodgers, 5 postseason wins, 1 SB
Romo, 1 postseason win, 0 SB
