When life gives you lemons... life is giving jerry a pass to ink McClain to the most favorable terms either you or I could have even IMAGINED two months ago. So who are we to look this 'gift horse' in the mouth? Dallas can and likely will get his services 'on the cheap' for at least ONE MORE YEAR.

Is this a bad thing? I can't see it as such.

Well like I said, i'm speaking more outside of football. I don't want to hear or see a guy fighting demons and succeeding and then succumbing to them after doing so well.

And in regards to him being on this team....you don't want to keep repeat offenders on your team even if it is for the cheap. That's how we got Pac-Man and Tank Johnson some years ago.

Either way, priority at linebacker should be Bruce Carter and then Durant. Then do what you will with McClain because out of all the linebackers he's the least of my concern at this point despite him probably having the most talent.

PED = performance enhancing drug
I know that what's your point
I believe that was what got him suspended immediately. The drug he took was considered a originally considered a PED even though he said he used it recreationally.

My bad, I misread your post or confused it with another. Forgive.

No – this one thing (negotiating leverage slanted toward Dallas) is not a bad thing. BUT - it's about the only good thing.

To put it bluntly, McClain just isn't dependable. When the Cowboys needed him the most, he wasn't there to answer the bell. And now, this? The guy is on his third "second chance", and he pulls this?

To a degree, I agree with RS. I'm not quite ready to completely move on from him, but he's down on my priority list of re-signings, after Dez, Murray, RT (one of them), Beasley, Durant, and Carter. Not only is he at least seventh in order of priority, if the Cowboys can re-sign both Durant and Carter, then I believe the Cowboys will indeed move on.

Part of me says this and part says don't let him get away.

If we get Durant and Carter then McClain is an after thought. I don't think they can count on him.

This may mean drafting a MLB early like McKinney or Perryman.

EVERYTHING follows the signing of Dez and Demarco... off-season priorities 1a and 1b.

It's exactly because of this story that McClain will be a fringe signee. My understanding (limited) is that Rolando had a couple of concussions and maybe some short-term illness (flu?... i can't remember) that all but erased him end-of-season and in the playoffs. i'm just saying he has shown ENOUGH that Dallas would do well to re-sign him - and the team will enjoy favorable contract conditions BECAUSE of this situation.

I think this kid is one heckuva player. Can he get his head on straight? I can only hope so. The Cowboys have very good support structure with Calvin Hill and all the 'RKG' ethos. I think the potential exists for where BOTH parties can reap tremendous benefit.

That's the question of the day. I'm waiting for that bomb to drop.

My first "Like" given since coming back- thank you Sportsbabe, you know I love you.

And as far as if it's the Green Sedative (I haven't read if there have been any updates since the post I'm quoting- to be fair), I only care about the fact of a guy abusing a substance that will take away playing games.
The flowers of hemp and their effects, defects and all other considerations are discussions best left to another forum, but committing to actions that cause you to fail the team by missing games is an egregious offense.

And I totally promote the use of marijuana- it's great and so far less dangerous to both yourself and others in it's usage, but there are lines to be drawn when it affects your livelihood and the people who trust you.

He's not going to be suspended from what I hear and hopefully, this being his last chance on this particular offense, will hopefully send a message that he'll get.
Or he's going to show once and for all that he places his own pleasures above career, trust and being reliable in what he does to support himself and his family.

I, of course want this guy to succeed in every way possible.
Make millions, become adored and maybe an athletic legend, if you can.
Help this team of ours get to the promised land, over and over.

No?

Let's move on then and feel cautiously warm and fuzzy that we have some solid talent in the pipeline in Lee returning (I don't joke about his injuries- get back HEALTHY #50 and stick around for the party) and Hitchens and even resigning Carter and Durant and we can have the opportunity to find more talent if need be through the draft, or Free Agency.

But that comes down to him agreeing to a contract that allows the Cowboys to escape any cap penalty should he happen to have another "whoopsy!" moment that seems to plague him no matter where he goes.
If he can't agree to sign something like that- I don't think I'm going to be the happiest of campers, although I'm going to hope like heck he over-performs what he signs.

Aye yai yai, I'm rambling uncontrollably!
I'm going to go ahead and stop, go back to simply lurking for a good bit and think about what I've just done.

Good Sunday to you all.

I would love you if it was allowed :)
I also love the player, but it's his career not mine. I'll be very didisappointed in him if he blows this opportunity.

I just get tired of all these 'White Knights' riding in and defending these players no matter what. He has repeatedly shown he makes poor decisions.

He just got caught smoking weed for the 3rd time during a playoff run and a contract year.

He supposedly shot a gun off next to some guys head after an argument.

He quit football twice.

He got arrested two other times while retired.

Someone burned down his house that was up for sale for 6 months and worth 1.5m, I believe he is dumb enough to have been involved.

How could I ever doubt him, he is a real choir boy.

And despite all of this. He can still play on Sunday. He is Dallas' best Middle Linebacker. He signs in Dallas to a vet min contract because he is a knucklehead. Sometimes Defense needs a couple of crazy guys to make the thing go right.

The front office and staff has been determined all along to retain McClain. I don't seriously think they will be likely to allow someone of his talent and abilities to get away too easily. Sure, Rolando messed up and hurt his chances of getting a generious contract but it'll only afford the FO a chance to save $$ on his contract renewal. He'll only have himself to blame with his recent drug miscue and the organization is certainly likely to benefit monetarily.

The Cowboys have shown some expertise in dealing with off-the-field issues, including recreational drug use. If he made a commitment to the staff, FO, and teammates, then he will need to reconcile with all of them and recommit; that is certainly a possibility.

However, I am reminded of a talented Heisman-winning RB from UT whose attitude toward life was rather noncommittal, and seemed predicated on an overriding philosophy of peace, love and weed. He could not be relied upon to maintain intensity and focus, and never achieved his potential.

Here's hoping that the Cowboys' "experts" can make the right decision about what's inside Ro's head and heart.
