Rolando McClain stood out in practice

Sup Key? I'm with ya. I want Rolando to make the entire NFL eat crow and dirt. He just might have a career here in Dallas. Did we possibly land a top 10 draft pick not yet in his prime? That would be unreal.
The dude can ball.

Hey Fletch - We are still only in Week 2 of the preseason but I'm cautiously optimistic. With his size, power and instincts, McClain could be a strength vs the run between the tackles. Very interested to see him in some live game action which probably suits his skillset more than practice. These next 2 weeks are obviously huge for him if he's seriously in play for the starting MLB spot.

You are correct. He has assumed a quasi-leadership role, and it might be enough of a driving force to help forge an effective to good, no name group.

I'm hoping for from four to five drives stalled a game, and a couple of turnovers for the offense to take advantage with.

Where is that post?

Can you taste the power and hitting with McClain at MLB and Lee at the weak side with his maneuverability and play making abilities? That might leave Carter to just becoming a tough strong side linebacker, with some coverage ability to boot.

Help me out ... I thought I saw a post that quoted Mincey saying "we have a chance to do something special here". I can't find it. Was I seeing things? Could be if Mincey said it.

Going back to perspective, this is relevant prior to now...

Losing Lawrence for at least the first three regular-season games is a tough blow. He was developing quickly and was ready to supplant Jeremy Mincey as the starting right defensive end. Without Lawrence, the Cowboys don't have a pure right end. They have solid left defensive ends and solid inside rushers, but not that 10-sack guy. Mincey, however, has some juice as an interior rusher in nickel situations, as does Tyrone Crawford. Melton will have to return to his Pro Bowl form for the pass rush to take hold.

As to projecting into a leadership role, that article was from the period shortly after his signing with Dallas. Then a follow up interview as to team directions and within the past week or two. I'm still looking for it...

here's a focus on his leadership role:

"We can make great strides," defensive end Jeremy Mincey said. "It was just base fundamental football. Not going to run our scheme during the preseason, that doesn’t make sense, (no) game plan. But the good thing is seeing who has heart and who has ability and develop depth. We’re working hard. The young guys want to play. There was a lot of mistakes made, a lot of things we’ve got to clean up, a lot of guys missing assignments and missed tackles. That’s going to happen."

No doubt he is chomping at the bit, at least I hope, to practice against his former team starting tomorrow. Then we'll see if he's ready to go vs. Balt.

He'll probably retire again after the season is over.

There's another thread right now calling Wilcox the next Earl Thomas.

That is not what was said. There was a thread where someone implied that you need an Earl Thomas type to make the defense work. That is hardly calling Wilcox him or making the actual comparison.

I agree. Carter is the only guaranteed starter. MLB comes down to McClain vs Durant and SLB comes down to Wilber vs Holloman.

Joey where have you read that Holloman is challenging Wilber? I haven't seen that at all. I thought Holloman was Challenging Both Durant and Carter. It appears there isn't any competition for Wilber as he has that spot pretty much locked up

Read the thread. The poster explicitly States that we should start seeing Kam Chancellor and Earl Thomas like play from Dixon and Wilcox by November. Read it, it's there

McClain is going to shock a lot of people this year and will give the Nay Sayers plenty of opportunities to eat crow. This will be Jerry's best move he made during the offseason...book it

I believe next season, Sean Lee will move to the weak side an even better fit for his skill set and McClain in the middle. Lee just isn't big enough for the pounding in the middle but will be free to roam at the will and make plays.

I agree. I went back to check, too, because that's not the point I thought the OP of that thread was making, but that's pretty much what he said. Obviously, we don't have anything approaching the SEA secondary.

You're probably right. I was just going off what people on CowbousZone were saying even before training camp. I know people have said Holloman will have a shot in the nickel, so Wilber will probably be the starting SLB in the base.

Yes you would be correct as far as I can tell. In that set I think they might move Wilber down into a Nickel rusher. I saw him working drills with the DL last week. So that could be it. I personally have high hopes for Wilber at LB. I think for a guy who hasn't played it before and started playing it last year I think he is awesome

Here's the deal with me on RMcClain, if Durant starts that means we'll have 3 finesse starting LBS that strike fear in no one. With McClain comes a physical presence that is much needed for a new "fight" attitude and lame slogan.

So because you see on person being stupid you think it representative of the whole thread's sentiment.

Wilcox is pretty far along but he is at the point where he and his teammates are working out what to do. At one point the ran a corner route by the TE and the WR on the opposite side of the formation to the post out of the slot. It was designed to put two receivers in the deep part of his half. As it was, Carter took the TE on the corner all the way to the sideline and Heath out of that nickel S had the WR in pretty good coverage. You can see Wilcox shade himself to between both and watch the guys in front of him and reading the QB. Rivers looked him off inside and threw to the TE for a nice gain. Carter lost him when he went upfield. It was a weird cloud look.

Anyway, you can watch Wilcox go and huddle up with the guys who were on the route and talk about something.

That is where Wilcox is right now. He is a sure tackler and a physical player. He has decent range and he can now recognize routes as they are being run and make decisions. He sees the field well. It is a huge relief because some guys just cannot see. Wilcox can and he is only been playing S for 3 years if you include this one. I don't know if he is Ed Reed. I think such comparisons are silly. I do think that he is a very smart player.

Zone coverage is a team concept. I think they will make more plays out of their coverages than they have before. At times various players, for example Lawrence, would stand in their zones and do nothing. That was the primary issue with all the free first downs last year moreso than the rush was the inept zone coverage. I think that those days are over. Thank goodness.

Applying a duplicate dose of negative doesn't dissuade a resolution on principal, in any real direction...only increases in emotions, possibly.

There here, is no presented information invalidating what was described as observed conduct and play.

Who was going to make that CCBoy translation app? I think I need a thesaurus for your posts.

Nothing but love buddy :)

I'll give it a shot.
CCBoy, "Repeatedly saying negative things doesn't change anybody's mind about anything, but may tend to make people more emotionally attached, or detached.
Ain't nothing new here that changes anybody's perception about anything that was previously reported as far as conduct and play are concerned."

There, how was that?

I dont think it is set when they do pick starters. I expect a lot of changes in the lb core. This has to be the worst lb core in the league so I expect a lot of different subs and starters this season.
