Rolando McClain stood out in practice

McClain is the most talented LB on the team. He and Sean Lee.

Thing is, he may or may not have the motivation, and he may or may not be an idiot.

Imagine that too. Saban said he was the best player he ever coached. Garrett is close w Saban. So he bought into the theory w rolando. Hope this works out for him and us.

Woo hoo Practice warriors. thats what we are rooting for now a days? Would this be ho hum news if he was on another team? Lets just be happy hes still on the team and at least not causes the wrong kind of headaches.

I hope he does very well so that we won't be afraid to cut Sean Lee after this year. No joking. I haven't trusted Lee for years now. We need guys we can rely on.

Well yea its training camp aka practice so of course were rooting for good practices and why would here at a Cowboys forum would we make a huge deal of a player of a another team (not named Manziel) practicing well.

Nobody relishes seeing that Rolando McClain is displaying his talent more than yours truly. From the day he was acquired, that talent has never been in question. I only hope his willingness to stick around and be a solid contributor on this team becomes a proven fact with the passage of time. There's no doubt in my mind that Garrett and the staff will give him every chance to stick around and become a valued contributor on our defense for years to come. Here's hoping that proves to be the case -- so far, so good.

It and signing Melton are probably the only two moves that have a chance of qualifying. The rest are like having your head cut off and trying to fix it with a BandAid.

The Melton signing was our best move of the offseason by a country mile. I like the McClain signing, too, but only in a nothing-to-lose kind of way. My expectations for that guy are zero, and I'll be thrilled if he's then able to put it all together and surprise me.

Thinking back to 2 years ago, it's sad that there's even a question about who will start between Holloman, Durant, and Carter. Anyway, as far as McClain, if he can provide us with anything it will probably be a step up from what we have.

It's sad that there are those who think that position is in doubt.

Just last week there was the big blowup thread because Mike Fisher tweeted that McClain might be on the way out. Well, this is his latest comment about McClain:

One defender in particular who stood out was Rolando McClain. Some have questioned McClain's desire to play, but I don't think anyone was asking that during Sunday's practice. McClain showed glimpses of his enormous potential during team drills when he read a run by Murray perfectly and gave him a nice hit to stop him in his tracks, preventing what would have been a long touchdown. He was also solid during 1-on-1's vs the tight ends, showing good reactions and awareness. And his backside chase-down of a sweep going away from him was freaky.

If his head is truly in the right spot, the Cowboys may have gotten themselves a steal.

Remember, this is from the guy who claimed McClain was on his way to tapping out.

I think McClain is just a bit of a different cat...and that isn't a bad thing. There have been lots of guys that seem to be in their own world but when the whistle blew could ball out.

If McClain sticks, I think he starts in the middle for us and will have a big impact. I think Wilbur on one side is a good fit, and then it's between Carter, Holloman and Durant as to who is going to be the other starter.

Jerry love the type of guys. It's like a project with him. I think it challenges him when he see's a guy with talent and personal issues who nobody else will touch. Jerry takes it as a personal challenge. Especially if it's somebody he needs. The reason why I like it because he's trying to show a young troubled person an opportunity for a better life. He's the anti-Bill Parcells. They both have there ways of getting it done. Sometimes successful, sometimes not. But they tried.

Fair enough, but the fact that the question even needs to be asked shows that we may have anointed Carter a bit too early, which is too bad because he showed some flashes two years ago. Hopefully another year in this system can help him because he need him badly.

Nothing against yourself, but I hate the term of idiot on a Cowboys discussion site.

I hate when people are called out of their name .... you don't even know that man. All you know is what is presented to you in the filter.

McClain is going to shock a lot of people this year and will give the Nay Sayers plenty of opportunities to eat crow. This will be Jerry's best move he made during the offseason...book it

From your keyboard to the Football Gods ears.

Sure enough, expectations are certainly hard to come by when someone has Rolando's history. I'd have to say my expectations are being held at arm's length as well. To be honest, though, it surely doesn't prevent my hopes from being quite obvious.

This defense is a stinker so, for me, the best thing about the potential for McClain to regain his former pedigree, is it allows the team to take pressure and snaps away from Sean Lee and hopefully keep him healthy for an entire season. I would like to see Lee at weak side and in the nickel next to McClain.

It's hard not to get excited about a player with his physical abilities. But there are lots of top-10 busts floating around, too. In his case, it's kind of more interesting because clearly his head was very much not in the right place. That's different from just not being able to play in the NFL.

I'd like him a lot better if we had a club-option on a second year. I also think Durant's a better player than he gets credit for, so I don't think we're all that reliant on McClain. That said, I do really hope he pans out and can be a difference-maker. We desperately need a difference maker or two on defense.

The team, specifically on defense, needs this kind of spark. Hopefully it lasts throughout the season. They clearly want this guy to succeed and win the spot. Hopefully he's up to the task. The 2 McClains, Melton and Crawford need to stand out if this defense is to have fighting chance.

Sup Key? I'm with ya. I want Rolando to make the entire NFL eat crow and dirt. He just might have a career here in Dallas. Did we possibly land a top 10 draft pick not yet in his prime? That would be unreal.
The dude can ball.
