I thought I had passed the stone since I had no real pain Sunday and most of Monday, but yesterday when I was shopping for groceries I started feeling that same pain again. It kept getting worse and worse until I could barely stand up straight. I checked out and headed home. I take back everything I said before about the pain not being so bad. This was absolutely horrible and unrelenting. People have told me it's like having a baby. That's wrong. It's more like that scene from "Alien". There is something in there and the only way out is to chew through my abdomen. I took two Tylenol which usually works on any pain I have. 30 minutes later I was still writhing in pain. No way to get comfortable. I don't usually take any drugs for pain but this pain had me reaching for my percocet prescription. I had taken this stuff once before when I had shoulder surgery but that pain was like a mosquito bite compared to what I was feeling. I took one and in about 12 minutes, no pain! Now I was wondering, did the stone finally make its way to the bladder? I found out the answer about 3 hours later when the pain returned with a vengeance. I had more percocet so I popped another and in 20 minutes the pain was gone again. Then another at 2:30 AM.

This morning I woke up in some pain but not as bad as the night before. I am drinking gallons of water but the pain is not moving from the original spot which makes me think the damn stone is going to stay there until it is removed by force. Last night after taking the percocet I attempted to coax the stone down into my bladder by sweet talking it. Stones are evil creatures with no sympathy for who they torment. Threats won't work either because the stone holds all the cards at the moment.

Anyway, I have no choice but to live with this until a doctor decides to go in there and get the stone out. I read somewhere they at at least 2 weeks before choosing an active measure.

They made the decision on me after 72 hours. You should go see a urologist. Do you know if the stone is in one of your ureters, or lodged in your kidney? Mine was in my kidney until I had a lithotripsy done.

Oh man, that SUCKS! Ask the doctor if he's TRYING to get you hooked on prescription meds! I understand the "go in there" part is none too pleasant either, but at least you'd be unconscious for that part of it. Probably feeling it for a while after though. I hope you pass that sucker very soon, brother!

My stone is in the left ureter and it feels like it is trying to eat its way out from the inside. I saw the urologist Friday. He said if I don't pass it by Wednesday, he will go in and take it out. He is concerned about more damage to my already damaged kidneys.

I stopped taking the percocet last Tuesday. After the morphine they gave me at the ER, my bowels are a mess. It is almost as bad as the stone painwise. I am trying to get everything moving again which I think will take some pressure off the stone. But getting off the Percocet led me into stupidly taking too much Tylenol. I thought it was every 4 hours, not every 6 hours but only 3 times a day! I had to have a liver panel done to see if there is any damage. Can't expect a person writhing in pain for several day to make a good judgement about the use of pain killers!

That sucks bro. Hope you get a resolution soon. They are not fun, to put it mildly.

Man, I thought I had a bad experience with my kidney stone, but compared to what you're going through mine was a walk in the park. I cannot imagine going through what you are dealing with.

Good luck and quick recovery.

You don't want to over do it but the liver can take some abuse. Get some stool softener to help with your bowels and please take the pain meds if they are helping you. You want to avoid the addiction but frankly, it's kind of overblown these days. Unless it drags on for a more than a couple of months, and you're not prone to addiction, you will be fine. I'm talking as someone who has been addicted to pain meds in the past. I think you may need the procedure RWB had.

I should add, if you really need to "go", magnesium citrate will do it. They sell it over the counter at Walgreens / CVS.

I'm on his side when it comes to pain meds. If I can do without them I will.

You're not wrong man. I'm just saying that if you are in serious pain, you should take them. As long as you don't over do it you are fine. I've taken them since it was a problem for me and it was not an issue because I knew what to expect. My wife wants me to mention that marijuana really works in this situation too if that is an option. Specifically the Sativa strand.

Even when I had my gangrene gallbladder or my rotator cuff surgery, just the first day or two, maybe. After that the pain wasn't as bad as the constipation would be. If I'd had good painkillers when the arthritis in my spine got really bad, I would have used them all for that. Of course, if I'd had a gun I would have used that too. Lol

I hear you Brother. I broke my heel and got addicted to those pills for a couple of years. I even resorted to getting them off the street. A few years after I got off of them, I destroyed my shoulder in a fall. I was able to take them as prescribed and quit when I didn't need them any more. The shoulder has never recovered, but I did. I don't want to give anyone bad advice but sometimes those pills are needed.

Thanks. I switched from Miralax to Senecot and Colace last night and after only an hour, I could feel the pain of the locomotive spinning its wheels at first, but eventually getting enough traction to move the train out of the station. Since then, I am the little locomotive that could, a lot. I expect that to calm down by the end of today, but the relief was incredible! TMI.

I don't think the Tylenol hurt me either. But I told my DR I may have taken between 6 gms and 8gms in 24 hours so he did a liver panel just to make sure. My liver may be the only organ I have that is not being treated for something which is why I want to keep it that way!

Thanks again for the words of encouragement. It is appreciated more than you know.

Man, I thought I had a bad experience with my kidney stone, but compared to what you're going through mine was a walk in the park. I cannot imagine going through what you are dealing with.

Good luck and quick recovery.

Two mistakes were made at the ER, IMO. Firsts, after keeping me at the hospital for 3 hours only to tell me what they expecting when I get there, the back pain and bloody urine was the tipoff, they decided to administer morphine for the pain before they released me. I though it was weird at the time because my pain was not that bad, or at least I felt I could tolerate it, but also the tylenol they gave me when I first got there killed the pain in about 10 minutes. I figured they would give me an ordinary painkiller before taking out the big guns. I was under the impression morphine was reserved for cancer and trauma patients, people with 10 level pain. At the time I had no idea what the consequences would be. Morphine stops pain, but it also stop peristalsis. So as I was eating, nothing was moving through. It was just building up into I suspect a big lump which was causing the worse cramps I have ever felt. Double over and knees to the ground cramps. But I couldn't even break wind, let alone have a bowel movement. This pain was worse than the kidney stone. The kidney stone pain refers to other organs and the bowel swelling made that worse too. Next time, no morphine.

The second mistake made was they kept telling me they would send me home with a prescription to Flomax. Anyone who has taken Flomax knows the one side effect makes it a negative under any circumstance. But the DR insisted. But when I got to the pharmacy, no one called in a prescription of Flomax, just Percocet and Zofran for nausea ( an absolute blessing for me). I figured maybe the Flomax as unnecessary, but after a week I saw my urologist and he was shocked they did not prescribe the Flomax. He put me on it that day, a double dose. Apparently it relaxes the ureter so the stone could pass quicker. That would have been nice to have the last week.

In any case, after taking all kinds of laxatives and softeners things are working, the cramps have gone away and the back pain is not as constant or intense anymore.

If I never had the bowel problem I don't think my kidney stone pain would have been any more than yours.

2 years ago,,the greatest pain you can ever imagine.i think even stabbing wont hurt so much and there is so much blood.
Oof, you must've had one of those jagged, spikey ones that went through your ureter and urethra. No thanks!
