Yeah but he was #73 or whatever last year and he missed half the season.

You missed the point. Ok, I will play your game. Tell me how Romo is a great leader? I am just playing devil's advocate. Please tell me what you think a leader is and how Romo fits that description? :star:

Go watch the SoundFX clip on Romo, blow your mind.

You've got to be one of the most unintelligent posters on this board.

LOL. SFX clips? You have got to be kidding me!
No... I'm really not. Instead of listening to BSPN/NFLN's take on Romo, I'd really recommend you go watch it.

For a moment, let members here shoulder the 'burden' of compiling this list.

Here is your ballot:

1.________________________________
2.________________________________
3.________________________________
4.________________________________
5.________________________________
6.________________________________
7.________________________________
8.________________________________
9.________________________________
10.________________________________
11.________________________________
12.________________________________
13.________________________________
14.________________________________
15.________________________________
16.________________________________
17.________________________________
18.________________________________
19.________________________________
20.________________________________

Name your top 20 players in the NFL regardless of position.

Now, let's assume that you randomly filled out your ballot with the following players: Carl Nicks, D'Brickashaw Ferguson, Nick Mangold, Jared Allen, Jay Ratliff, Justin Tuck, Demarcus Ware, Ray Lewis, Clay Matthews, Charles Woodson, Darrelle Revis, Troy Polamalu, Antonio Gates, Larry Fitzgerald, Calvin Johnson, Adrian Peterson and Ray Rice.

At this stage, you have already eaten up your ballot with a guard, a tackle, a center, three defensive linemen, three linebackers, two cornerbacks, a safety, a tight end, two wide receivers and two running backs. That leaves you with only three slots. Just for the heck of it, let's say you fill those remaining slots with three quarterbacks.

What would your choices automatically be?

This may represent the bitterness which this popularity contest receives. Peers are not filling out ballots with ONE HUNDRED players. They are choosing TWENTY players REGARDLESS OF THEIR POSITION.

Would a lineman fill out his ballot with five (25% of his list) quarterbacks?

Would a wide receiver who acknowledges how good some of the cornerbacks he has faced subtract one corner from the three he chose to add one more quarterback?

Would a linebacker leave every fullback he's battled off his list so that the number of quarterbacks on his list are more than he wants?

Honestly, I think this annual list gets the shaft much more often than it should. Wouldn't it be more reasonable to ridicule this list if Romo had been left off the list?

Peers only have twenty choices...

Probably about right, I'd be interested to see the QB's ahead of him. In my opinion he's in that 9-12 range as far as the best QB's in the league. There are a lot of players in the league, there's nothing wrong with being in the top 100, there are plenty of players that would take that honor with a smile.
Even his very worst critics--I mean his VERY worst--don't say there are 9-12 better than him (especially as many as 12).

THAT is not indicative of a leader, sorry. Look, I am not trying to be argumentative (actually I hate to do that with a fellow fan), but leadership is not exactly Romo's strongest trait. :star:

Right, because yelling at your receivers where to go and other numerous things in that video isn't leadership. Man, I'm an idiot.

Careful. All this banter and interest will only guarantee more stupid shows like this one.

No, you are not an idiot, but knowing the plays while the WRs don't does not, in any way, make you a leader. You have the last word.

Seriously, have you even seen it?

If you are talking about last year, yes, I have seen the video. Besides, I asked you what was YOUR definition of a leader. Not a video of Romo.

What's your definition of leadership? If you're trying to compare Romo to Ray you're going to find no one who is a better or similar leader than Ray.

Ah, the old through your own question back in your face response. Sounds like somebody else on this board.

Leadership isn't at all the problem with this team. Being overrated and told they're better than they are (Mainly on the defensive side) of the ball is the problem. We didn't have the horses, we're getting the horses. Be nice to see Claiborne pick one off and Murray can run one in and Romo will end up the hero.. or most likely not, since it probably won't work for Romo the way it does for other "good" quarterbacks out there.

Tom Waddle was absolutely right when he said that this was nothing but a popularity contest.

You know, I respectfully disagree. Even Jay Ratliff reached out to Ray Lewis to get his advice on leadership. Don't ever underestimate the value of leadership. That glue, that constant rock/rocks that keep everything together when things are falling apart. Jason Witten (he is the TE) is probably the closest player I have seen on the Cowboys that exhibit that. I truly believe the other players try, including/especially Tony Romo, but they just do not have it. Leadership is innate, it is not a taught skill.

I really don't think they are overrated. I think they do have the talent. Maybe I am just a homer. Sometimes they need to play above their talent level. It's been a long time since that has happened. Someone needs to get them to do that. :star:

Sure, Leadership plays a part, but at some point the talent has to be there. You can't will a bunch of nobodies in to doing what their bodies aren't capable of. I'm just saying that I don't think we have been or are as talented as we sometimes are told we are.

Without reading the whole thread, here is my 2 cents.

I don't think that #91 is too outrageous if you treat all positions equally. I know that the media will probalbly try and put 20 QBs on the list, but if they were to rank each guy based only on how good he is compared to every other player AT HIS POSITION in the league, then #91 would be okay.
