I've been thinking that for awhile now and I'm a big Romo supporter but i want you guys opinions...

Is Tony Romo the right QB to maximize Dez potential with what he already knows? Because even not knowing the playbook as far the whole route tree goes and recognition of coverages ( as far as I'm concerned it is what it is right now)...Think about when Kitna was palying with Dez, Kitna would still throw balls up to Dez and gave him a chance to make a play doubled or not allah Eli Manning who does throw those types of balls quite frequently and gives his receiver a chance to make a play...Maybe I'm wrong and over analyzing this, but have anybody else thought about it this way?

Does Romo cause Dez to run wrong routes or not finishing his routes? Does Romo causes Dez to drop passes? If answers are no, then the issue is not Romo, rather Dez.

Doesn't trust him. In preseason, Romo tried to throw the ball away at the back of the endzone and Dez still makes that 1 handed catch.

I'm worried that he'll never trust Dez. Romo would rather throw it to a double covered Witten on a 2 yard out route, then go 1 on 1 with Dez and whoever.

That is not true at all. If Dez is 1v1 coverage with no safety help and romo has time he is going to throw it Dez. The issue is most of the time they have safety help or the pass rush is already in his face. He is throwing the 2 yard outs because Witten is his safety valve.

I am glad Romo doesn't throw into double coverage. If someone is double covered that means someone should be open. IN addition to, if he were to throw into double coverage and get picked this board would talk about how much of an idiot is and how we should of kept Kitna.

So let me get this straight...are you suggesting that we find another QB to replace our current franchise QB because he won't just throw it up to our under-achieving WR who can't pull his head out?

So would it be fair to say that due to play calling, we have an inability to get/exploit mismatches?

No No No not all....What I'm tyring to say is with all the ability we know Dez has and his short comings on the mental side for what he does know is Romo the QB that can get the most out of Dez for what he does know and do well?

This is not a should we get rid of Romo thread... I'm a Romo supporter just a question in Dez's ability knowing what he does know and does well is Romo the QB that can the most out of him on the field...

Because he may not know the playbook fully but he's still gonna be starting at WR

I think it's more along the lines of Dez being right for Romo?

Or, Dez being right for any QB on any team?

He needs to get his act together..

Especially wearing that number.

U got me on routes but lets be real how many times will Dez drop those passes in a game....and we know about being off page with Romo on routes at times it is what it is at this point.. Romo has his short comings too if he's gonna throw a pick a gm he might as well get that pick from a couple of deep balls to Dez IMO....

Thats good point and way of looking it too......but I dont think he chose to wear that number I think Jerry gave him that number

Its only 2 games. I guess Dalton doesn't trust AJ Green either?

I've seen AJ play. He gets his looks.

A.J. Green caught seven passes for 58 yards and a touchdown in Week 2 against the Browns.
Green worked against Dimitri Patterson for much of the day, seeing 12 targets. His touchdown came from ten yards out for an easy walk-in score in the right front corner of the endzone. Green could have easily had another 21-yard score but was overthrown. Cincinnati goes to Washington in Week 3. Sep 16 - 5:21 PM

A.J. Green caught five passes for 70 yards against the Ravens on Monday night.
Green led the Bengals with 11 targets and was the only downfield threat on offense. He also dropped a couple of passes and wasn't really on top of his game in Week 1 against a tough defense. Green was owning cornerback Cary Williams early but faded in the second half with the rest of the Bengals passing attack. A juicy matchup against the Joe Haden-less Browns awaits Green in Week 2.
Sep 10 - 10:38 PM

23 Targets total for AJ, 4th in the NFL.

Dez gets 12, 42nd in the NFL.

I see what you are saying. My question is more, how about some innovative play calling to get the receivers open more often. Watching other games, somehow these teams are managing to get their star players wide open with less talent on offense than us.

Hmm...I don't know...I'm not sure anyone really knows right now. I suppose it's possible that another QB would get more out of Dez based on how that other QB plays the game, but I would think that with all of Dez's supposed talent that he could adjust and learn and be the WR that Tony and the team wants him to be.

This kind of reminds me of Roy Williams a bit and how Romo and he could just never connect on the field. In no way am I comparing his talent to Dez's, but perhaps I am comparing their ability to adapt to their QB.

Time will tell, I suppose.

As long as Witten is on the field.....Romo will force feed it to him....

Kitna came in and performed pretty well. He managed about a 88.9 passer rating that year. In comparison, since Dez got here, Romo has been 97.6, 94.9(in five full games), and 102.5. That's a sizeable difference. Really seems that Romo is maximizing everyone's talent.

More importantly, Romo is reinforcing what the coaching staff tells Dez every week. Run your routes right and finish each play. When Dez does that, the ball comes his way. When he doesn't, he gets nothing.

The CBs in this league are simply too good for Dez to get by week after week playing street ball. At this point, only Dez can maximize Dez's talents,

This is what myself, and other Cowboy fans have been saying. Every team in the league finds innovative ways to get their playmaking WR's the ball except Dallas.

We must throw that short screen to him at least once a game.

I expect that is the only way we are getting him the ball b/c it is one of the only routes he can run effectively, as it pretty much just involves standing up and turning toward Romo
