Romo Didn't Like The Call

The league is having a real problem with attendance. Mainly because ticket prices are getting so high and with the continued improvement in home entertainment systems, it's making attending a game live less appealing. Jerry cited that in creating AT&T Stadium...that a videoboard like that was needed because of issues like that. The league has also suffered from concussion awareness that has turned off many fans to the game. In the PBS concussion documentary, the medical examiner that looked at Mike Webster was told by an NFL official that if 10% of the mom's whose kids play football decided to never allow their child to play again it would destroy the league. So, even a small percentage...which has already happened...has hurt the game's overall popularity.

Showing FanDuel and DraftKings commercials ad nauseum has nothing to do with a game's popularity. Those are gambling Web sites already owned by huge corporations. Gambling on the NFL was hugely popular in the 70's when the league wasn't nearly as popular. It would be like reasoning that the increased Viagra and adult web site commercials on TV and radio have made sex more popular.

That's why Goodell is trying hard to get a team in London. It's a typical corporate America response to sagging sales...try to find that new revenue stream to pump an influx of new sales. And that's what will probably drive a team to finally get in LA. My guess is it will be the Rams. So when they leave St. Louis, the other owners unhappy with their stadiums and tax deals will hold their cities hostage and say 'hey, we can always move to St. Louis which is a good sized market that is starving for an NFL franchise.'

YR

OK, but my point was just that fantasy football was too annoyingly popular changing the NFL experience for people who actually care about the final score. But I suppose the NFL is complicit in that too.

Some people on this board probably think the slant pass to Harper in the 92 championship game was a ridiculous call based on the game situation.....but sometimes you have to allow your players have to make plays.....Dez just didn't make a play.

It doesn't matter if Dez dropped it. Yeah, that made me mad, but there's no reason to throw it twelve yards down the field on 3rd and one yet always seemingly have your receivers run four yard outs on 3rd and six.

That's idiocy on the coaching staff.

4:30 left in the game. 3rd and 1. Cowboys call time out and discuss the play to run. Cassell, Linehan, Garrett, and Romo in a group discussion. Romo shakes his head and rolls his eyes and walks away. Cassell goes back out to throw a pass Dez dropped. If you recorded the game, look for it. The disgust on Rom's face was obvious.

Thus the reason that Romo is 14 - 3 in his last 17 starts and JG/Linehan are 0-8 without him....Romo makes the right call more times than not and JG/Linehan make the wrong call more often than not.

It kills me when they check down, to someone 5 yards away from the first down marker.......

weve lost 7 in a row.... Maybe take a chance?

Which brings me to another complaint. We have no sense of situational football. We just follow what the book says. Well, sometimes you gotta go with your gut. "Lets see, the last 6 weeks we have lost becuase we didnt take a chance, when we could put the game away, and the defense has failed us every time." , "Maybe on this 3rd and 3 (or whatever play it is) we try and do something different. so we can just extend the damn play clock down , ......................

nope. they play everything, by the book; its cost us imho.

Play calling is terrible as usual.

Play action would have been a great call...

The receiver was open and the ball hit him right in the hands. Some of you guys just complain about everything!

Tell me what is "terrible" about a play call that hits an open receiver right in the hands?

Your completely wrong!

If I am a play caller and the play I call is going to hit an open receiver in the hands beyond the first down marker I am going to call that play all day every day my whole career.

Would you do different?

I saw that too....... I "guessed" he was disgusted at whatever Dez was saying. I was thinking Dez was saying "throw me the ball" and Romo just wanted him to shut up.

Dez got his wish.....then dropped the ball..................

thats all guesswork on my part....But Romo wasnt happy about something, thats for sure.

That's kinda what I thought and I'm a huge Dez fan...

The NFL is declining in popularity? I wouldn't know that from all the fantasy football stats they constantly flash at the bottom of the screen making me wait like 45 mins to find out who won other games.

The NFL is #1.

It was high percentage play he dropped the ball period. When did back shoulder throws become low percentage? People say any ole thing nowadays

A 20 yard timing pass with a QB who has only been with the team for what 4 weeks and a WR that was injured most of the year and has had limited time with that QB. I wouldn't call that high percentage on 3rd and 1 with the game on the line in the 4th quarter. How about a play designed to get Witten or the RB open 4-5 yards downfield?

Its not a low percentage throw at all. Back shoulder throws in general aren't low percentage. He just dropped and that's what most of y'all are whining about because its not a bad call at all. You can do the other plays you mentioned but that's not my point. My point is that wasn't a bad call Dez has to catch the ball esp when its a good pass like that.

I hated the call.

That's the kind of crap I hate about JAson Garrett and his scheme.

The season on the line and we run a similar play to Dez in GB last year.

3rd and short yesterday and we're running a back shoulder pass.

How about designing a play that gets a guy open instead of relying on choice routes and back shoulder passes.

Th play would've worked. The coaches can't catch the ball for Dez too. His team needed him to catch that and he didn't.
