The league is having a real problem with attendance. Mainly because ticket prices are getting so high and with the continued improvement in home entertainment systems, it's making attending a game live less appealing. Jerry cited that in creating AT&T Stadium...that a videoboard like that was needed because of issues like that. The league has also suffered from concussion awareness that has turned off many fans to the game. In the PBS concussion documentary, the medical examiner that looked at Mike Webster was told by an NFL official that if 10% of the mom's whose kids play football decided to never allow their child to play again it would destroy the league. So, even a small percentage...which has already happened...has hurt the game's overall popularity.
Showing FanDuel and DraftKings commercials ad nauseum has nothing to do with a game's popularity. Those are gambling Web sites already owned by huge corporations. Gambling on the NFL was hugely popular in the 70's when the league wasn't nearly as popular. It would be like reasoning that the increased Viagra and adult web site commercials on TV and radio have made sex more popular.
That's why Goodell is trying hard to get a team in London. It's a typical corporate America response to sagging sales...try to find that new revenue stream to pump an influx of new sales. And that's what will probably drive a team to finally get in LA. My guess is it will be the Rams. So when they leave St. Louis, the other owners unhappy with their stadiums and tax deals will hold their cities hostage and say 'hey, we can always move to St. Louis which is a good sized market that is starving for an NFL franchise.'

OK, but my point was just that fantasy football was too annoyingly popular changing the NFL experience for people who actually care about the final score. But I suppose the NFL is complicit in that too.
