Romo interview

Or maybe, just maybe, stop trying to turn him into a pocket passer and let him play his game and tailor the offense to his playing style and not theirs? Just an option

What NFL team doesn't expect its QB to be able to function as a pocket passer? Sure, some factor a few more roll out's or QB run plays or RPOs into the game plan, but they all have to be able to function as a pocket passer as well. NFL teams can't gimmick their way to success. There still has to be some degree of just running a play and finding a receiver without it being on the move where a QB is moving away from the pass protection and can be exposed to big hits

Romo was one of my favorite Cowboys since the glory days of Landry and Johnson with Staubach and Aikman. Too bad Parcells couldn't stick around to see it through. I like Romo too much to see him get severely disabled. That said, he should have been allowed to come back week 6 and take over; that, or compete for his job in 2017. He undoubtedly would have been the starter again. I think he would make a great OC at some point, but why would he do that kind of grind when he has a basically cushy job - unless he really wants it?

Good post sir

Lol, this dude is resurrected every week. He will be 6 feet under and we’ll still have the “if Romo” threads. As annoying as it is, it’s also comically pathetic.

Doug Pederson seemed to tailor his offense to Nick Foles' skillset. Seemed to work pretty well too. We have done the same thing with Romo, Cassel, Weeden, and now Dak. You are telling me they all are similar skill wise? Come on

I was wondering why this happens thinking it must be a millennial thing. But, after giving it thought, many fans haven't moved on from Jimmy not being the coach. I guess we'll hear about how great Romo would have been and how he finally would start winning in the playoffs if only he could have come back and played yet again after being seriously injured for the next 20 years.

I'm not saying that the offense shouldn't be tweaked for Dak's skillset, and at times we've actually seen some of that. The Cowboys clearly run plays with Dak they would not have asked Romo/Cassel/Weeden to run. And maybe they can tweak the offense more for Dak. I'm just saying you can't get away from the need to function as a pocket passer too.

There are a lot of fans who aren't old enough to remember how great Aikman and those teams were, so all they know is Romo. A few here illustrate Romo as their favorite Dallas QB of all time. And there's nothing wrong with that idea, he was fun as hell to watch at times and he always carried that underdog tag. I think that's why a small few here think Romo was better than he was. Seems a little emotional.

True, but while it's true the pass protection hasn't been great, Dak hasn't made quick decisions either, which makes it harder on the O-Line. Ultimately a team can only roll out the QB so often.
