By all accounts Owens is a very nice guy and a good friend.

I still don't want him on my team.

Good thing he's a Cowboy then and not a member of your team.

I agree it was a good gesture on TO part. As for it being the exception that is not exactly true. Romo just said no one text messaged him as much as TO he did not say no one else did. Witten is very close to Romo and was very supportive of him according to Romo but no one made a big deal out of that.

Romo said about Owens reaching out, "Not a lot of people did that.”

That to me says exception and not the rule.

Nobody said "noone else text messaged Romo", except you.

I made just a big of a deal about Witten as I did Owens in my first post after reading Romo's comments a couple of weeks ago. I mentioned them both because Romo did, and I felt it was great that both reached out to Tony.

Some guys seem to find fault with every little thing Owens does or says, at least give him a pinch of credit for this nice thing he did, and leave it at that.

I am sure something will happen soon enough that you can find a way to bad mouth him about.

I think the media will take care of that for the TO haters.

I hope I have no reason to bad mouth him. I don't get off to saying negative things about TO or any player but when they make statements or do things I feel is wrong then I'm going to say something not just hide my head in the sand or blame everyone else. As I said I thought it was a good gesture on the part of TO. I also think it was a good move on TO part to talk with Phillips and hope that relationship works out better than past relationships with other coaches.

Romo did in fact say he was a great teammate in his opinion.

I have no problem with TO. Yeah he can be a character to say the least but the produces on the field... and I'm willing to believe that several of those drops this year were due to the finger issue.

I'm not knocking the fact that TO's a good teammate. I'm glad he is. He just doesnt get extra props for being a good teammate.

But he does get raked over the coals for wanting the ball like all receivers do.

At some point, the guy deserves some sort of break.

Does he need to start kissing babies and giving to the poor?

Dooms, how did we find out about that phone call. That is a phone call that nobody ever needed to know about.

Was it Owens that talked about it, .. was it Phillips ?

If Owens told the media about it, he shouldn't have.

I think Phillips was asked recently and said that TO called him TO told the press that he talked with Phillips and went on about Wade being a players coach and looking forward to playing for him. I don't see it as an issue of who talked 1st.

Not if it was Phillips. I didn't know that, I'm glad he brought it up and not Owens.

It would not matter to me one way or the other. The media did talk with TO afterwards and he had some good comments towards Phillips. I just hope the relationship last.

Text of TO text message to Romo

"I was open on the sideline dude, if you had lobbed the ball to me instead of trying to run it in, it was a sure six points"

same message was sent seven or eight times

just kidding guys:D

Team cancer at work. Move to one side.

Great thread because the concept of a QB and his go-to-receiver being friends and close supporters is such a foreign concept! In that situation, I would have expected TO to send him threatening text messages

He gets raked over the coals by some for saying he wants the ball, yet he's the top target for balls in the NFL. And the issue wouldn't be so big, if he hadn't dropped some balls at some of the most critical points in games. He had a legit gripe about not getting the ball EARLIER in some games, but when you're leading the league in targeted throws AND drops, it's annoying to hear the complaints about not getting balls thrown your way.
At some point, the guy deserves some sort of break.
Sure he does...by both sides. Every good thing he does shouldn't be magnified to make a point about how he's not as bad as the big bad media... And every bad thing shouldn't be magnified to make a point about how he's a cancer.
Does he need to start kissing babies and giving to the poor?
I'm pretty sure he does that already, we just don't hear about it...and it wouldn't matter either way. ;) :)

Well the Cowboys ARE my team and no, it's not a good thing that Owens is a member of it.

I really don't care what Owens does off the field unless he breaks the law, which to my knowledge he has not done. I DO care about what he does on it though and he simply is NOT worth the money we are paying him.

Dallas didn't bring Owens in to catch a bunch of short passes only to get tackled right away. His forte is supposed to be catching those short passes and turning them into long gains. He only did that ONE TIME this year. He dropped too many crucial passes, ran his routes poorly, sulked when he didn't get as many balls thrown his way, isolated himself after he screwed up but was in the face of any other player who made a mistake.

The bottom line is that he has not performed up to expectations and he's not worth the media circus that surrounds him. Even if none of it were his doing, which a lot of it is, we still don't need that distraction from a player who isn't what he was billed to be on the field.

It Owens would have been a difference-maker a lot of things would be overlooked, but he's not so they aren't.

:hammer:

I am niether a TO apologist nor a TO hater. I support him as long as he helps the Cowboys win games. I also recognize that he is an egomaniacal who doesn't take take responsibility for his own actions often. Having said that,
it is absurd the amount of 'bad' press he gets and the complete disregard the media shows toward his good qualities. This story is a great example (Tony's comment about TO texting him after the Seatle game), i have seen this clip aired on tv once. I don't watch tv all day long and everyday but it seems like when there is anything the media considers 'bad', 'distraction', or 'outburst' on the part of TO, i see it on the sport channels all day long.

I understand the media gravitates to 'sensetional' stories (makes for good tv) and TO is a 'lightening rod' for those stories, partly his own doing. However, it is just appauling how they can pile it on on one player without any attempt to give some what of a balaced story about an individual, especially when there are ex. and current teammates who speak so highly of him.

I honestly am tired of reading about the bobbled snap, the outpouring of well wishes, and how Tony is handling the after effects of the snap heard round the world. I'm glad TO reached out to him, but it is time to move on and focus on the future. When Romo announced that he was holding at the Pro Bowl I am not sure what reaction he was looking for. Did he want everyone to say what a brave soul he was or what? People make mistakes all the time, just accept it and move on.

Honestly though...did anyone think that our D could hold them from kicking the gaem winning FG? There was over a minute left and Brown has been clutch...we were going to lose whether he got that hold down or not, IMO.

I don't agree with your first paragraph.

I agree with your second paragraph.

I do agree with the first paragraph.

Let it go! Geeze! Romo made a mistake! There are scores of mistakes made every game. Romo's just happened to be in the last minute of a wild card game.

You didn't hear all of this a few years ago when Hasselbeck through that INT in overtime at Green Bay after boldly saying they were going to win the game. That was a far worse mistake because it came while Hasselbeck was playing the QB position. It hasn't negatively affected his career.
