Witten was targeting a mind boggling 150 times last season -- the most for any non-WR in the NFL.
Right, there weren't a lot of targets for his QB to choose from. Like the Packers, the Cowboys were weak at OL and had no running game to speak of. Unlike the Packers, besides a huge difference defensively, the Dallas offense didn't have the luxury of being able to spread it around among 4 or 5 targets. There were basically three dependable pass catchers on the team last year, and it might be more accurate to say two and a half. This also meant there was an issue with depth when one of the three was injured.

Even if you look at Nelson (2nd rounder) and Austin (UDFA) as cancelling each other out, that still leaves the Packers with Cobb (2nd rounder, led the team with 80 rec), Jones (3rd rounder, led the NFL in TD), and Finley (3rd rounder, 61 rec), and at the end of the year, Jennings, a 2nd rounder and 2-time Pro Bowler who had 25 rec 4 TD in the last four games after returning from injury.

The Cowboys had Bryant and Witten. The rest were unproven free agents and 6th rounders.

Bingo. The receiving core from both teams was about equal all things considered.
Then you're probably having a hard time explaining both teams' 2013 draft.

Romonator should have never re-opened this ongoing putrid can of worms--especially if his goal was to actually defend Romo.
Any Romo thread draws the same cast of haters out of the woodwork. Some barely even contribute to the forum unless it's negative stuff aimed at Romo.

And anyway, using a thread involving stats about a season that saw Romo have his worst QB rating of his career is a poor place to start if you want to help the guy.:laugh2:
He would be the first to say that there were 3 pretty ugly games (out of 16) last year. I think he had 11 or 12 picks in those three games. Yikes.

Romo lovers try their best to excuse his horrid season :laugh2:. Must have been that adult peer pressure the reason Romo led the league in ints.

Regardless of how many MORE TDs Brees threw compared to Romo, they still have the SAME amount of INTs & thus THEY are "leading the league in Interceptions." The End.

This is so miscontrued and twisted by the media it's not funny.

Romo had 19 interceptions this year and 3 came off in the final week of the season. Romo didn't lead the league in interceptions. He tied with the most with the NFL's golden boy Drew Brees, but no one seems to notice that both he and Tony went 8-8 and tied for the league most.

Look closer as well. Eli threw 15 and Drew threw 19. Eli has been sacked 17 less times(with 19 sacks) than Tony Romo. Drew Brees was sacked 10 less times than Tony Romo(26). Romo is almost in the top of the league with 36 sacks from the 2012 season. Imagine how many sacks Romo avoided with his athletic ability as well.

That doesn't excuse the turnovers, considering that Aaron Rodgers has been sacked 51 times and doesn't turnover the ball, but that man is playing outside of his mind.

I just thought that stat was very telling

Here's to sum it up

Eli manning- sacked 19 times - 26 touchdowns and 15 interceptions on "536 attempts"

Drew Brees-Sacked 26 times- 43 touchdowns and 19 interceptions on "670 attempts"

Tony Romo-Sacked 36 times- 26 touchdowns and 19 interceptions on "648 attempts!!!"

Get rid of this bum now!

Nothing you said changed the fact that he led the league in INTs thrown. He also had a higher % of his pass attempts picked off than Manning or Brees. Trying to make excuses by citing TDs and sacks do not take his name off the leaderboard.

Why would you choose to compare Romo to guy (Brees) who has almost twice the number of TD's.

More importantly is the Int Ratio

Romo = 1.36 (marginal)
Brees = 2.26 (very good)
Manning = 1.73 (good)

To put it in perspective - Brett Favre the Int King had ratio of 1.56

And the year before Romo had 36 TD's and only 10 picks with a 104 qb rating on the year. Yet, still the Romo haters were complaining. It doesnt matter what happens to the team, they will always blame it on Romo.

Simple minded, biased, spoiled, lazy fans that dont want to admit that the entire team and coaching staff is sub par. Therefore its much easier to believe that its only one thing brining down all the rest.

Romo is entrenched as the starter for years to come.

Doesn't matter what anyone says here on this message board.

Tells me that the media buried Romo for the same amount of INTs because he had less TDs. You can't say he "Leads the league" when theres another guy who has the exact same amount.

That is because Romo was to blame for several losses. He lost the Jets game, he lost the Lions game, and played bad in a few others. Other then losing those games by himself he had a good stat year. With that said was part of the problem here just as he has always been.
