Romo will be brilliant in the booth one day. But not yet.

I honestly think he'd be better than any analyst out there right now.

It would be odd to have Romo go from no broadcast experience to calling the Super Bowl next year.

He has the face, smile and wit for television. And he knows the game. I could see him in an Aikman role for CBS.

He would replace Lynch as the number 2 at Fox. I think it would be fitting if Aikman were demoted to second team while Tony replaced him on the first team.

I say this because I think Aikman went too far with the Romo shouldn't get his job back during the middle of the season. As an ex quarterback, I thought it was down right disrespectful of Troy Aikman to push it as hard as he did.

Fortunately, the top brass at FOX isn't as overly sensitive as you are.

I wonder if he will learn hate the Cowboys as much as some believe Troy does from the booth? FWIW, I don't buy in to the notion that Troy hates on the Cowboys from the booth.
The moment Romo says one negative thing about the Cowboys, they'll turn on him as fast as they did when he threw an untimely pick.

I've liked romo (as a player and a person) and acknowledge what he has done for this organization.

What I don't understand is all the love he is getting all of the sudden from the media and current/former players.

I feel, for a large majority of his career (please correct me if I am wrong) he was often made fun of by the media and players past and present. It generally appeared to me romo wasn't taken seriously amongst his peers or the media. Not counting teammates past and present of course.

Many of the athletes who are on television today aren't really that deep. They don't know the players so they repeat what they've heard, i.e. "Romo chokes in the post season." They take a superficial look at the league and give the most popular explanation, even if it's not the most accurate.

Then you have player-commentators who are real students of the game. These are the guys who look deeper into the game; these are the guys who are interested in giving insightful analysis. I'm willing to bet among these guys, Romo is thought of highly.

Say what you want about Romo, but he is a student of the game. You don't rise from undrafted quarterback to one of the better quarterbacks of the past two decades without understanding the game.

There are only a few transcendent players in the league, and even they need help winning it all. Everyone else is a product of the team, the talent and the coaching he receives as to whether he becomes a Super Bowl winner.

The real player-commentators know this about Romo. The others are merely playing to the crowd.

I don't buy that Romo would all the sudden be the top analyst at CBS. You don't come in off the street and do that.
That is all I am saying........these guys work their way up for years

Tony has charisma and the knowledge but being on air for 3 hours is a different animal

Actually Fish said that would be the ultimate for Tony as that's his favorite sport.

Probably would be the ultimate for Romo but don't think it would be for the Masters viewers. You want a former tour player who's won majors including the Masters giving their expertise, not a former NFL player who's never competed in a PGA tour event. I would assume Nick Faldo would still part of the coverage along with Nantz.

Perhaps, but one thing to be smart and witty. It's another to be able to talk almost nonstop for hours on end.

Why does that make no sense? he's a good golfer, loves the sport, has played with the likes of tiger woods, and has some decent humor and brains on his shoulders.

It makes no sense because he's never played professional golf. Makes no difference that he loves the sport and has played with Tiger Woods, that certainly doesn't make him qualified to do the Masters coverage. That would be like sticking a former PGA tour player in the booth as part of the Super Bowl coverage just because they love the sport and hang out with Tom Brady. You need a former Masters champion in the booth who's experienced the moment and can provide good insight into what the leaders of the tournament are going through. I'm sure Nick Faldo will still be part of the coverage. This is why the NFL uses former NFL players during game telecasts, they provide the best insight because of their NFL experience.

Everyone they use on PGA tour telecasts have PGA tour experience except for the lead announcers. This is certainly not a knock on Romo, I just don't see where having a former NFL player as part of the telecast makes any sense. It's not as bad as putting Dennis Miller in the Monday Night booth several years ago in an attempt to provide humor. They don't want humor at the Masters, that's a serious tournament run by a bunch of old fashion fuddy duddies. Gary McCord who likes to use humor, got booted from the Masters coverage years ago for cracking a joke that pissed off the people who run the tournament.

Or like making Elway the GM and President of a football team...

How the heck does that compare to Romo doing the Masters coverage? lol Elway was one of the greatest QBs in NFL history who's been apart of football his entire life. He grew up with the game, his father was a coach. I think having a former NFL QB who's led a team to 5 SB's and a couple of championships is a great qualification to be a GM and President of an NFL team. Not many NFL QBs had better leadership skills than John Elway who had to carry 3 of his Broncos teams on his back to the SB. Those first 3 SB teams he was apart of had no business being in the SB.

If I were Tony, I would be all over one of those TV deals like white on rice. He's had a long, great career. Go out with your health in tact and take a super cushy, high paying job.
+ the Seven figure salary would not hurt in retirement either. A lot safer but Im almost certain that he would rather play for a contender...He breathes for that SB Trophy and Ring.

You doubt Romo can talk nonstop?
It's a skill to be able to ramble on and on and keep it relatively interesting. I don't doubt he can do it, but we don't know. You can be smart and witty and funny, but not be able to do so for 3+ hours nonstop in a manner that the home viewer enjoys.

I've noticed it too Supercowboy1986. I think all the love is coming his way because he will no longer be attached to the Dallas Cowboys franchise. If he has success away from Dallas it is another thing that Cowboys haters can throw in the face of the franchise and its fans. Folks love to hate the Cowboys. If you are no longer with the team then you get recognized for your ability BUT if still on the team then it is cooler to throw shade to the player. Just my thoughts on it...

True. A lot of people freeze when they get on television, people who are otherwise gregarious.

In all seriousness, I doubt Romo would step into the top commentator job. He would work regional games first before they bumped him up to the big dog seat occupied by Phil Simms.
