Jenkins is another culprit who'll be gone after this upcoming season. Now's he's been replaced and the Cowboys secondary has been greatly improved. By drafting Claiborne the Cowboys could possibly trade Jenkins to help get back into the 2nd round. The Cowboys still have several picks to address the interior OL there's still good players out there.

As I've said in other threads, if the intention is to give up Jenkins as a bust next year and move on then I like this move a heck of a lot more, even if its an admission of prior failure.

If the idea was to keep the 1st round pick, the $50M Newman replacement AND the guy who costs the top end of this draft, its way overkill for CBs when there are bigger holes elsewhere (even at safety).

You're more kind than I am. Whether they intend to keep Jenkins or not, using their 1st and 2nd round picks on a CB is horrible value.

The idea is the Cowboys have given up on Jenkins this will be his last season in Dallas unless he's traded before the season. He looked like he might be a real good player a couple of years ago but that hasn't been the case.

A lot of people have Clairborne rated as a true game changing stud in the Revis mode. Even though I am a trenches first kind of guy i can make the argument that spending a ton to get him when after next year your best DB will be Carr (and by a lot) is a fair move to make.

But if its because they are giving up on Jenkins then its just overspending to make up for past mistakes.

We spent 1st and 2nd round value on Claiborne. Trading back into round 2 doesn't change that, because there will be a cost to do so.
