Romo will likely pass 30,000 career yards this season.

Romo presently has 25,737 yards so he only has 4,263 to go. Maybe not as significant a milestone as it once was but it is still surely notable.

Not bad for any QB, much less an undrafted guy from a school nobody had ever heard of.

If Romo stays healthy, he could get to 40,000 career yards and 300 TD passes, excellent numbers that many have that are in the HOF. But, he is not a HOF unless he wins a SB or starts winning a lot of playoff games.

Which would be a shame since he is one of the ten best QBs of all time.

The most remarkable thing about Romo is his consistency. He's ranked among the top 10 rated passers every season that he has qualified. The only players in the entire history of the NFL to do that over at least six seasons are Montana, Brady, and Romo. Montana is the only one who did it for his whole career from start to finish.

He will not get to the HOF without a ring. The hatred for him and the Boys will make sure of that. Sadly I think he might have to get at least 2 rings and 300 TDs and 40,000 yards with a top 5 all time QBR to make it. which is BS since Moon got in without any rings or even coming close to it but that is the way it is

The bar for passing / recieving stats is going up dramatically -- 40,000 yards and 300 TDs will be no guarantee 10 years from now when Romo might be eligible.

Perfect Example of modern players who have no chance at HOF having stats that dwarf the vast majority of the guys at their same position in the HOF:

Derrick Mason:
  • 943 receptions, 12061 yards, 66 TDs
  • 12th all time WR
  • Exceeds Michael Irvin in receptions, yards, and TDs
  • Absolutely no chance for the HOF
Romo will fall exactly into the same category unless he has some post-season success. You are fooling yourself to think Romo has any chance for the HOF on stats alone.

That can't be right...Peyton has to be included too since he has 7 seasons with a rating of 98.0 or higher and a few more in the mid 90's.

If Romo is healthy all year, and doesn't exceed 4,000 yards easily i will be very suprised.

The top ten rated passers for 1998 were:

Passer Rating
1.Randall Cunningham*+ · MIN 106.0
2.Vinny Testaverde* · NYJ 101.6
3.Steve Young* · SFO 101.1
4.Chris Chandler* · ATL 100.9
5.John Elway* · DEN 93.0
6.Neil O'Donnell · CIN 90.2
7.Mark Brunell · JAX 89.9
8.Troy Aikman · DAL 88.5
9.Steve Beuerlein · CAR 88.2
10.Brett Favre · GNB 87.8

People have mostly forgotten it because of his subsequent seasons, but Peyton's rookie year he threw 28 interceptions. He didn't have a season with less than 15 interceptions until his sixth year in the league.

It's right. Peyton qualified his rookie year but did not make the top 10.

And of course, if Brady or Romo had started as rookies, they wouldn't have made it either.

Probably not anyways.

No, Romo doesn't come close to falling into the same category as a player like Mason, who never had even one season in the top 10 in receptions, yards, and TD.

HOF talk aside, Romo's yearly high rankings in passer rating have absolutely nothing to do with the era in which he plays, since playing in a pass-happy era doesn't make it any easier to rank higher than other players who are all playing in your era.

My hope is that we have such a good running game this year, Romo won't need to exceed 4,000 yards.

In Today's NFL, if you don't pass for 4000 yards, you suck, period.

5000 yards is the new 4000.

Do you want to be the greatest show on turf or do you want to be "good enough" ?

Exactly - which is why I in my post, I stated he needs post season success.

I don't agree with that. I could easily see Kaepernick passing for only 3500 yards, going to the Pro-Bowl, and the 49ers winning the Superbowl.

Even a deep ball thrower like Flacco had only 3800 yards last season.

The Patriots had a top 5 rushing attack and Brady threw for 4800 yards.
A fast-paced offense that can pass and run well, and whose defense forces a lot of turnovers can squeeze in enough plays to do this. Last year, the Patriots' offense was 1st in plays per drive, and their defense was 1st in takeaways per drive. This helped them have more plays for more yards and more points than any other team -- by a large margin.

The Cowboys' offense was 4th in plays per drive, but the defense was 30th in takeaways per drive.

Flacco was terrible all season long.

And we aren't talking about 4800 yards. We are talking about 4k.

Barring injury Romo will eclipse that number easily and it will make no difference how good or bad our rushing attack is.
