Why does Romo refuse to throw the ball away? He takes bad sacks.

Everybody knows Romo holds the ball too long and doesn't throw the ball away. It's one of his faults... but he fixed his biggest issue, which was confidence! I'll take the little bad for greater good.

I'm glad someone knows what im talking about.

Admittedly, the competitor in him has betrayed him in that area at times but that has improved noticeably over the past couple years. He's still somewhat too reluctant to ditch the ball at times but I honestly don't think It's still quite so persistent that it can't be forgiven.

He holds the ball 'too long' because he's looking to make giant plays all the time. That comes with the dinner with Tony Romo, and it's why we get plays like the juke of Watt/TD to Williams (bum!) v. the Texans last year. that win us football games. As long as he's not throwing picks, I'll take the sacks and the big plays, thanks.

And the game-winning TD at the Giants.

And the spin + game-saving pass to Williams at Seattle.

And the game-winning TD vs Detroit in the playoffs.

Keep holding the ball "too long", Tony.

Sometime the best is when u know there is no play. Chunck it out bounds.

That's a thing that gets told to QBs a lot. But it's tough to knock Tony when you see him make so many magic plays buying time and waiting for a guy to come uncovered with that quick release.

I"d rather he just do the things he's special at. He will throw it away when a play is covered. Or he'll just take a sack. It's a tradeoff that overwhelmingly works for him, so I don't worry about it.

Now, if we could get our pass rush to make the other guy take a sack every now and then, that I could get behind.

Why does Romo refuse to throw the ball away? He takes bad sacks.

There are multiple reasons why he does this:
He's as tough as they come.
He's a warrior.
He's a competitor.
He has an awesome o-line that allows him to do this.
He doesn't have the same strength and health (Gasp he's getting old) to throw into tight coverage so he has to wait for perfect opportunities.
He doesn't want to throw wild gunslinger picks anymore.
He only has one WR that he can throw those tight "Zipcode" passes to, everybody else has to be perfectly wide open.

Having said all that he's healthier and stronger today then he has been in nearly 3 seasons. I expect to see more zip on his passes this year but he clearly doesn't have the same capabilities he had earlier in his career so he has to be more calculated and precise with his pass attempts.

We are seeing less picks now but more sacks. I'm sure Garrett's final touch will be to have more quick options or to throw the ball away sometimes..

Ill take the sacks for the plays he makes on the run when a play breaks down. Can't have a conservative quarterback and a quaterback that makes those plays.
