He takes bad sacks. I only like good sacks. Why do you do this to us Tony? It truly breaks my heart when you do this. Next time, take the good sacks. Leave the bad sacks alone.

Thank you OP for creating this thread. I've been looking for an avenue to get my feelings about this off my chest.

I would rather see Romo play hoodini when necessary. For example 3 & 8 barley in Baily FG range, get what you can get or throw it away. Example 2 , 3 & 8 outside of Baily range bring on the magic.

Also Romo need to understand to play for the next down. Throw the ball away if its 2nd down and there is no one open. Play for 3rd down and field position.

Romo had four "incompletions" vs Green Bay.
One drop,
one completion to Dez overturned,
and two Throwaways

He had greatly improved in this area, but it's highly debatable if it was even a serious flaw in the 1st place.

I'm not sure if some realize how many things can go wrong when a pass rush is closing in and a QB decides to try and throw it away.
Strip sack
Open ribs exposed for injury
Interception
Intentional grounding
Are 4 common ones just to name a few

Arm chair QBs irritate the f... out me

You take those sacks away and you also take the magic scrambling plays away. Steelers fans complain about the same things with roethlisberger and it works out ok for him as well.

What's it going to be then, eh?

Sometime the best is when u know there is no play. Chunck it out bounds.

Romo taking sacks that kill drives are not the problem.

A lot of his plays are because he extends them, has been his game his entire career. I would say more than half of his all-time great throws came off of his ability to improv.

He at least has a goal in mind when doing so and can make plays. This is not Bledsoe patting the football five times and then crumbling to the pass rush.

It's simple, throwing the ball away safely requires the QB to give up on the play prior to the point where the defense has its hands on him. Romo's magic comes from extending plays at that precise moment you want him to throw it away. You've got to take the bad with the good.

I'd rather him take the sack than throw an interception. Aaron Rodgers does the same thing.

Sure. But lots of good QBs do read the play and give up on it before getting sacked.

I really don't think this is something you can change in Romo. And we all need to realize that he makes some pretty exciting plays because of this.

Everybody knows Romo holds the ball too long and doesn't throw the ball away. It's one of his faults... but he fixed his biggest issue, which was confidence! I'll take the little bad for greater good.

He needs to throw it away when out of pocket.

Inexcusable.

And sometimes he does that. You talk like he has never thrown a ball away. Go rewatch the games...he does it plenty. Seems you're suggesting Romo change the way he plays. Unless you're some kind of QB coaching wizard, I'd consider that Romo knows more abut how to play the position than you do. JMO.

He holds the ball 'too long' because he's looking to make giant plays all the time. That comes with the dinner with Tony Romo, and it's why we get plays like the juke of Watt/TD to Williams (bum!) v. the Texans last year. that win us football games. As long as he's not throwing picks, I'll take the sacks and the big plays, thanks.

"Comes with the dinner."

Garrett is making disciples of us all.

Why does Romo refuse to throw the ball away? He takes bad sacks.

I think there are times he should but by the same token many big plays for the Cowboys take place because Romo will buy time and find the open man. I think if you weigh the big plays vs the sacks often it is worth it
