Romo's Sack Fumble?

He needs to get the ball out. Usually he is rewarded this season for the trust in the OL, so I don't blame him, but at that point in the game focusing on converting a 3rd and 19 against coverage that deep in their area....throw safe or punt.

yeah true, but he was looking to make something happen. He did not want to give up and lose against Philly who had the momentom at that point. Like someone else said, he messed up - it happens.
Why the olinemen were just standing there were beyond me.

Don't the coaches teach these players that if you don't hear a whistle, go after the ball no matter what?

What was the down and distance again? He had Murray wide open on a dump off and looked to have Witten coming open across the field, but he refused to take them. What happened there?

He had receivers open all day.

he missed an open T.Williams for TDs 2 times. One time he got lucky TW drew a flag.

What happend? Romo did happen.

I have a great idea. Why don't you stop posting. Thanks. :)

He should have understood the game situation and handled it better. We were up and deep in our own territory. Take what D give you and punt. It's ok to punt rather than taking a sack or turnover. This was institutional football.

But other than this play, Romo played lights out.

You can like this post all you want.

Romo is Romo. This will happen.
He feels he can take a chance here and there.
He feels he will get a chance or two or three to make up for it.

"Right or wrong, I command this family"

In case anyone forgot, the Eagles only brought 3 guys on that play. With our OL the last thing Romo should be concerned about is getting hit like that.

You can't hold onto the ball for 15 minutes, either. Throw it away.

Romo screwed the pooch on that one. Big deal.

He held it too long trying to make a play downfield. He overly trusted his protection and didn't feel the player coming from behind. His internal clock should have told him to check down to Murray.

It looked very similar to 3rd and 20 in Seattle earlier this year. Back when Terrance Williams was still involved in the offense.

Your hate is showing, and it is making you look like a fool right now.

Yes, and that's probably the reason why Romo kept holding the ball. It's a difficult balance where if it ends up in a big play downfield, you're praised for it, or questioned for it when it turns out like it did Sunday.

No 2 ways about it Tony needed to get rid of the ball, even if it is a dump off pass well short of the 1st. Turnovers you can't have that

If there's no pressure, why can't you hold the ball? Romo saw where everyone was, and nobody was close to getting to him. He stopped to dump it off, but had to pull it back. If he hadn't went to get rid of it like everyone was calling for, he'd still beback there waiting for someone to get open.

I don't agree with the idea that you get rid of it, just because. If there's no pressure, then see if something opens up.

because after so much time it will get there and from the backside the chance of turnover is much greater. When the sack comes after 9 seconds it is on the QB not the OL

Also a couple of successful plays in the Giants game....including a TD.
I guess he should have thrown that away too.

One of his better traits is being able to sense what's around him.
We're really nit-picking here, imo.

It's a question of game situation IMO. However, coaches generally coach you to get rid of the ball in a certain amount of time, regardless. It's a percentage thing. Unless you are forced to hold onto the ball because, say it's down to the last drive and you need to make a play to win, this is how QB's are coached. In the case of Tony, with his physical issues, I think it's just that much more relevant. He needs to do a better job in that situation and Tony knows that. I'd bet that if you asked him, he would say that he needed to get rid of the ball.

Was just a mistake on his part. It's over, Indy is up, time to move on........

Maybe the problem was the receivers (like Williams stopping and waving his arms like he's open when there is a defender right next to him), and not the OL or QB?

The rush will probably get there eventually, but Romo can move around, and with a 3 man rush, there was a lot of space to do so. Even if it's going to get there at some point, that doesn't mean you have to get rid of it prematurely. Getting rid of it after 10 seconds when there is no pressure is no better than getting rid of it after 1 second with no pressure. If Romo had just been standing in the pocket the whole time facing down field, I could understand the need for him to get rid of it not knowing what was behind him. That's not what happened though. He went left, then turned and saw where guys were before going back to the right.

The problem was that he had to pull the ball back down.

It may be on WR not being able to get themselves open but does not change the fact that with a 3 man rush having 9 seconds with the ball it falls to Romo. Come on after 9 seconds some one will be coming shortly and the QB has to get rid of it, no one is getting open fine throw it away or dump it off to the short man. As ABQCOWBOY said if Romo is asked he will say the same thing that was on him. I'm not trying to crucify Romo over this. I think all in all he had a great game

Have to have a clock in your head. He should have threw it away or ran. We were ahead at the time so there was no reason to risk a Turnover and give them a short field like we did......way too easy for the Eagles at that time with the momentum change. I believe he will remember this if he gets into this situation again.....but just can't give away field position like that.
