Romo's Sack Fumble?

He held the ball too long and does that often. He is playing great this season, but that is a weakness in his game. At times, he refuses to get out of the pocket and throw it away. Ironically, he did just that on the first offensive play of the game. Really surprised me. I hope he learns from it. Overall, we can't complain about Romo. He is a blessing.

100% agree. He definitely held it too long. I think it was more the context and timing of the thread.

It's like a pitcher throwing a no-hitter and a thread being created because he walked a coupe of batters.

I mean, Romo had 3 Tds, 0 ints, and QB rating of 129. On the road in a very hostile environment and in a HUGE pressure packed game.
Truly outstanding by any measure.

Anyway, my guess is that there have been 7-8 TD passes by Romo this year when he was seemingly holding the ball for too long. It cuts both ways.

I would have preferred him to dump it down or throw it away. I do think the league in general gives up on anything longer than 3rd and 12 way too often and there's nothing wrong with throwing a deep bomb and it getting intercepted if you can bring the interceptor down. It can be as good as a decent punt and the upside is that you might catch it or get a PI.

YR

Apparently Eli Manning posts here, guys.

In case anyone forgot, the Eagles only brought 3 guys on that play. With our OL the last thing Romo should be concerned about is getting hit like that.

Well, just so we know, the lineman ran 2 laps around the field to get to his blindside and Romo just held it for too long. Trying to hard to make a play. A Dlineman is going to beat an Olineman in a speed contest after 7 seconds. But then Romo absolutely dominated the rest of the game, so moot point. He's playing amazing ball right now.

What was the down and distance again? He had Murray wide open on a dump off and looked to have Witten coming open across the field, but he refused to take them. What happened there?

He held it too long trying to make a play downfield. He overly trusted his protection and didn't feel the player coming from behind. His internal clock should have told him to check down to Murray.

One of the best performances by any QB on any team all season and we have a thread on a strip fumble.
Only in the Twilight..uh I mean, CowboyZone

Yes, he should have gotten it out but thought he still had time for some reason.
Hang him

Oh get over yourself. Turnovers change games and seasons. It seems reasonable to examine what happened on that play. This isn't a bash Romo thread.

I never fully understood the tuck rule, but I thought if the QB lost the ball before pulling it back to his body it was an incomplete pass...?

Yup.....Why that wasn't called the tuck rule is beyond me. I thought the QB had to have both hands on the ball in order for it to be ruled a fumble. Otherwise....it's a forward pass....incomplete. Now.....I'm not sure what the NFL rule is...Nor does the NFL know. You know how the league just likes to make stuff up as if goes along to unsure the outcome it wants.

I was there, it was insane - so much time, a number of wide open short to immediate options - Tony was still looking deeper for a 1st down - only one guy still left rushing - OL just standing there after the ball was loose.

It really was the low point of the game - it elevated the crowd to their most obnoxious level.

Dez's pair of 22 yard catches in the next series was huge, as was Murray's big run on 2nd down - crowd started booing their team again and they never recovered after Wilcox's amazing int.
Watching on TV the obnoxious level peaked when they started singing that song once they took the lead.

Romo clearly fumbled that ball, but you know what was also clear?

The refs were waving their hands and blowing the whistle while the ball was lying on the ground. It was clear as day.

We all remember the two turnovers robbed from us. How was that turnover not robbed from the Eagles in the same exact fashion?

Yeah, I don't remember that song when they played in the Vet - seems like a cross between the Jets and Skins chant. The stupid UN-masculine flag show too. I guess when you don't have any championship tradition you have to supplement the fan experience with lame on-the-field displays.

What happened? We won, that's all.

everyone just stood there while the ball was on the ground.

what the heck was that about?

What do I have to do with it?
really, I should be asking you to get over YOURself.
You're the one who started this thread.

My discussion had to do with Romo's performance and the context of this thread. I mean, talk about splitting hairs.
Had nothing to do with me.

Yeah, can't ask a question about a single bad play without people getting super defensive and taking it as an indictment of the player. People really need to R-E-L-A-X.

ok, ok
I'll chill

I asked a simple question about one play as to why he didn't take the check down and you take it as an attack on his entire game.

I don't agree with this DFWJC. ON the surface, I agree, this seems like a very reasonable statement and I think, for the most part, this statement is true. However, if we want to go far in the playoffs, we have to be smarter then this play. Romo legit had 9 seconds or so. You have to know that you can't hold the ball in that situation that long. Even had it turned out to be a completion for a 1st down, I would still be against that play because the odds are, Romo is going to take a shot on any pass play that takes that long. It's not worth the risk IMO. The situation dictated to get rid of the ball and check down. I think that we are close to having a shot at making noise in the playoffs and who knows if things fall right but we have to be smarter in those situation. At least, that's my opinion on it.

Murray was wide open long before Romo's ill attempt to hold the ball too long and try to direct Murray right before the sack fumble.

Apparently, Romo was looking for someone to open up down the field due to the down and distance but he had Murray wide open behind the DL and he may have picked up the yards.

Romo waited too long and redirected Murray at the last minute and it cost him big time!
