Meh. If they lose Odom and Ariza over it then it will be epic failure but if Odom comes back then it's a good move. I just don't get where they are getting this money from. They were already in the luxury tax without Ariza and Odom. Odom is asking 10 mil a year the last i heard. I know they are all buddies but we shall see.

Bad move... They should try to keep Ariza instead.

Agree'd but if they keep Odom too (which I highly doubt now) then it's just treading water. Artest for Odom for Ariza is just ********. They have no bench now.

Ariza>>Artest

Bye...

I wasn't an Artest fan anyway...

He's decent. Laker fans are overrating him a little too much because he's a sexy name but isn't much on the bball court. Jacks up alot of bad shots. Ariza is a better defender and knock down three point shooter. If anything this move just treads water. This move is risky since you could lose Odom also..

Ariza is a phil jackson product and nothing more. Artest does jack up a lot of bad shots but is a much better defender than Ariza.

How is Ariza a better defender?

I really have to commend Danny Ferry from not having any knee jerk reactions to these overrated FA's. I hoped he didn't go out and sign Ariza just because he was "there". The Cavs are going big in 2010.

After we win the ship this year we will have LOADS of money to spend to lock up LeBron AND Bosh!!!!
After this year
Shaq..20 mil off the books
Z...15 mil off the books
Wally..6 mil off the books

We are going to have so much money to play around with. Bosh and LeBron in Cleveland for the next 6-7 years

Lakers-----------:shoot2: :shoot1: :shoot2:

I think it's an upgrade in the area of shooting. The Lakers are just looking for a guy to fill out the triangle. They need a guy who can shoot the 3 and play good defense. If you look at the two players, Artest is about a 40% 3 pt shooter and he averaged better then 17 PPG last season.. He's bigger so he's a bit stronger in the post and he's a very good defensive player but I think most of you are missing why the Lakers traded Ariza for Artest. Artest is 6-7, 250 or so. Ariza is 6-7 215. I think they got Artest to match up against Anthony and possibly James if they meet. He's a good post defender that has the strength to defend those players. This, IMO, is about match ups.

Ariza is 6"9 with a 7"2 wingspan. He's a better spot up shooter than Artest which is ideal in the triangle offense. Like I said before, if they get Artest while keeping Odom then it's an upgrade but if they lose Ariza and Odom to have Artest then they take a significant step backwards. Their bench would be one of the worst in the league.

That was a great team.

The Dream, Kenny the Jet, Horry, Maxwell and maybe Otis Thorpe there on the end?

Ariza is listed at 6-8 but that's here nor there. He's still to light to defend either of those players in the post. He gets muscled and that means that Kobe has to pick them up. That's a problem for the Lakers. Ariza is not a better spot up shooter or otherwise. Ariza is a career 30% 3pt shooter. Last year he was a bit better at 32% but he's not a superior shooter by any stretch IMO. The Lakers signed Artest for the same money the Rockets are signing Ariza. It would not have mattered had they kept Ariza or not. Odam will either get signed or he won't but be but signing Artest will not be the deciding factor.
