Google search for NFL CBA PEDs:

The new CBA also changes the policy on performance-enhancing drugs:

  • First failed test for stimulants or diuretics is a two-game suspension
  • First failed test for anabolic steroids is a six-game suspension
  • Manipulation or substitution and use of a prohibited substance is an eight-game suspension
  • Second failed test for stimulants or diuretics is a five-game suspension
  • Second failed test for anabolic steroids is a 17-game suspension
Yes and there is a list of the drugs they test for and the NFL medical department will have a list of his current meds. I don’t know if they have their own private doctors or if they see NFL doctors. I guess both. But they are supposed to report any drugs or changes in drugs. If he has been on this drug for a few years they should know about it. Either it’s foul play by goodell or he took something he shouldn’t. Water pills are used to mask some drugs or flush them.

Good points. I don't know how good diuretics are in masking, but I guess you could look at RX size per pill to see if there is suspicion, or if they just blanket the RX.
I have not seen any details on that front despite searching.

Not completely sure but I have heard that diuretics are used to mask HGH. I could be wrong. Guess they just use urine testing and not blood. I know during training camp they do the yearly “random” test for street drugs. If they pass it the unless they are dumb they won’t get tested again for another year.

So....if a player from the 49ers, giants, eagles, or chiefs were saying this after a suspension, wouldn't everyone in here be calling him a liar and a cheater?

Just curious.. because pretty much every player ever suspended says "it was just vitamins from GNC" or "my doctor gave me this for asthma!" Or some version of "The dog ate my homework"

That sucks. I don't understand how, or why a heart med can cause a suspension.
Because the league can't rely on players to tell them the truth. Remember when Lael Collins was suspended, fought it and then was accused of attempting to bribe the drug-test collector? Collins feigned that he did nothing wrong.

Amazing that none of the hundreds of players that have been suspended for PEDs were actually guilty...
Well, he may not have been guilty of taking a PED, but if the medication masks it, then he's considered guilty. It's up to the players to understand what substances are allowed and what ones aren't. They make enough money to pay people for that.

If the guy is saying it's for his heart, it's probably a diuretic.
When I had hypertension that was prescribed to me and it seems the league has a blanket call on diuretics so whatcha gonna do?

Retire from being a pro football player because you need to pee more?
I'm sure the league has a list of OK'd medicines and if not, the player can seek an exemption from the list. The moral of the story is don't take any medication without clearing it with the league first.

Yeah. This was discussed at more length as the thread goes on.
Appreciate the chime-in though as I'm always learning.

Do they all get routinely tested, or are there events that trigger tests, such as joining a new team?
No idea but if it is an innocent cardiac medication why can’t he or his agent put out the name of the medicine and the substance that tested positive. We can all find out if that substance is a metabolic product of that medicine. It will also be important because there may be other players on the same medicine

He is not bound by HIPPA, the NFL is so they can’t do this but he can

If he “wants to clear his name”, do it

Somehow I don’t think he will

Ok

But I kinda don't want a RB with a heart condition either.
Now there is a Real Deal Holyfield.
I don't know how serious his condition is, but I don't want a Hank Gathers situation.
Nobody does.

Edited: I accidently said "wank", lol. I meant "want".
Whoops

It’s not just that they can do. I remember reading a couple of years back the players can and should submit everything they take to the league and the league will tell them if it is ok or if there is something in it that might be an issue. IMO these players that get caught and come up with some legit reason they were taking something are all full of sh1t

I don't know if he's not, or if the league said No Way Jose.
Maybe he is and things are in their due process.
I don't know.
I make my comments upon how I read the user.
I'm not perfect. I already said I like you, so that's there.

Those who think players who actually take PEDs are trying to enhance their performance are poorly informed. We almost never see these issues during the season. I’m not defending it, but in general, not talking about Jones specifically, most players take PEDs to try and heal from an injury faster.
