Ronald Jones says heart-condition medication triggered PED violation

Takes a supplement while playing with the Bucs and Chiefs. Zero problems. Takes the same supplement and is suspended as soon as he comes to Dallas. Sounds like business as usual for Goodell.
What do random testing mean?

Take a statistics course before calling conspiracies

Is this supposed to reassure us?

"Sure, Lawrence has slowed down but that has nothing to do with his age. He had his foot amputated."

Some blood pressure medicines are diuretics.

They remove fluid from the body. Which prevents the heart from working too hard and getting big.

Not sure which is worse...... a player using peds or a player with a heart ailment that requires medication. Seems like neither is a good bet for a roster spot.

Notify the teams doctors before taking it, it's not that hard folks!!!
Ignorance of the league's rules isn't a defense!!
I have to agree with this. These guys make a lot of money. They have nutritionists, and advisors, and doctors and all kinds of other things at their disposal. Getting a PED violation nowadays unless you were doing it on purpose is almost impossible.

2 game suspension. Either a stimulant, or a diuretic.
That's it. No mas.
You make the call. Dude on steroids? That's a 6'er.
I posted the CBA rules.
Thanks for posting this.

It shows it definitely wasn't steroids he tested positive for.

So Dallas signed a player with a heart condition?

Way to go Cowboys...
It's likely hypertension. high blood pressure.

If he doesn't take his meds, his heart will work too hard and get big.

aka heart failure.

I'd bet he wins on an appeal.

Its just hypertension.

Easily treated with HCT/hydrochlorothiazide.

I believe it was on the NFL banned list.

I understand that this seems ridiculous that a guy is suspended for using a prescribed heart medication, but the players know and they've been told numerous times by the league that before you take ANY medication prescribed that you should inform the team doctors of the medication so they can tell you whether it meets the league banned substance list..
It was cleared by the NFL and two other teams. Only now it has become an issue.

"It's something I've been prescribed over the course of my career," said Jones. "It wasn't any steroid or anything to enhance my game. It was medicine prescribed by a doctor that I wasn't aware of. The tests came back and I'm responsible for what I put in my body.
"Just gotta make sure it's not gonna happen again."
I've played this game for free for years and years, so to be here now and have them say that about me — it hurts but I'm responsible for my medicine and what I was taking."

Jones, clearly frustrated with the league's decision and unwillingness to look more deeply into the matter, detailed how things got to this point.
"It is disappointing," he said. "It was before I signed here. It happened last season. I'm just confused how it came about, but I just wanted to clear my name.
"I'm not cheating the game of football. It's literally a prescription medicine. I asked for a retest [including] a sample of my blood. They didn't want to look at it. I think there needs to be more protection for players because if you're having health issues, I mean, we're human beings outside of football.

A supplement is totally different. If he was prescribed a med by his doctor then it shouldn’t be an issue and should be very easy to verify
And he has a right to appeal

For. Real. Actual critical thinking instead of the lazy, victim, whoa is us conspiracy on autopilot 'round here.

Whatever the reason for the violation being suspended the first two games of the regular season has hurt his chances of being a viable contributor this season. With the arrows pointing down on his career he can’t afford it.

Anyone that trusts the NFL is a fool.

You have these players saying they put on 15lbs of muscle in the offseason. If you believe for a moment that you can put on 15lbs of muscle in 6 months clean, then you have never worked out before. With a professional trainer and heavy diet management, and maximizing your workouts, you probably manage half of that legitimately, and they are not just putting on random muscle but targeted muscles which makes it an even weirder claim to believe it is legit.

That sucks. I don't understand how, or why a heart med can cause a suspension.
Let me help. It's BS. He was doing something not allowed, he got caught, and he's making excuses.

Has there ever been a guy suspended for PEDs that didn't have an excuse for how it wasn't his fault?
