Well he does have 3 Championships in his first 5 or 6 years.

Can't just disregard that.

Winning championships is not easy.
Large asterisk though for those 5-6 years compared to the next 20+ years, wouldn’t you agree?

If you take Jerrys last 5 years as a GM then yes

GM puts talent on the field and fields competitive teams and Jerry has done that actually outside of 2000-2002 jerry has always had talent on the field and been in the mix for playoffs outside of some injury riddled years

now the issue is hes been GM for over 30 years and hasnt had postseason success since the 95 season

now if you judge him off that alltogether thats when it gets dicey
I don't agree as to prejudice of his involvement. The NFL started out for Jerry Jones with him being molded by San Francisco and then the Raider owners as to team management at that time in the NFL

Let's see who did what in Dallas from Jimmy Johnson thru Chan Gailey...

Johnson 1989 - 1993
3 Seasons in the playoffs and winning 2 Super Bowls in years four and five

Barry Switzer 1994 - 1997
3 Seasons in the playofffs and won 1 Super Bowl in four years being Head Coach

Chan Gailey 1998 - 1999
2 seasons in the playoffs

The first 11 seasons GM'ing, his Cowboys made it to the playoffs 8 seasons.

Bill Parcells was Head Coach for four seasons and made it to the playoffs twice.

Wade Phillips was Head Coach for four seasons and made it to the playoffs twice.

Jason Garrett was Head Coach for nine and a half seasons and made it to the playoffs three times.

McCarthy has been Head Coach for the past three seasons. He started with a team full of injuries and the pandemic starting out his first Cowboys season.

Now, looking at the past 9 seasons of Cowboys play:

2022 12-5 *
2021 12-5 *
2020 6-10
2019 8-8
2018 10-6 *
2017 9-7
2016 13-3 *
2015 4-12
2014 12-4 *

That is five of nine seasons that the Cowboys were in the playoffs.

Football at the NFL has changed quite a bit...but no, Jerry has consistently taken his franchise to respectable play and records. That is despite problems and changes in rosters.

You can't rate a GM week by week. His team went to 4 of the last 7 super bowls.
You certainly can do it based on year by year….even then…did he go to those Super Bowls because of his GM skills or because of Brady….which he drafted 20 plus years ago…

He's not. He's not even close. But feel free to enjoy your fantasy.
Even you must admit that as a team from GM on down to the practice squad players that they are at least respectable as to NFL status.

Seriously though. 28 years of proof. How much more do you need? Once he's actually proactive instead of reactionary with needs and gets them to an actual Conf champ, we can revisit this.

Well, I totally agree that the guy in Philly is number 1.

Eric DeCosta should be on the list. But, I guess this is based on last season.

True, but Jimmy did the heavy lifting and deserves most of the credit.
The next 28 years shows Jerry was way over his head.
Free agency started during the early Jerry Jones years, but look at the records rather than ignoring the total picture. No, there hasn't been another Lombardi since Barry Switzer...but on the contrary, there has been plenty of good Dallas football.

Well let's remember though Jimmy did leave here and go to Miami and didn't have the success he had either. How many teams were willing to give the keys to Jimmy? How many were willing to make him a first time NFL head coach? We might not like it but can't tell Jimmy's story without. Jerry.

Sure, you can do it in the same way you can put your hand in a blend. It's freakin stupid though. And one player alone does not win Super Bowls.

I don't want just good football.
I want great football and at least some NFCCG appearances.
We have not come close and that's on Jerry.
Case in point: who waste 10 years on Garrett?
Who else does that?
Gross negligence!

They were a good tandem, no doubt
But Jimmy still deserves most of the credit.

Maybe not but Brady has rings post break up and did it with a 8-8 team. Bellicheat hasn’t done anything.

But I honestly think this list is based on last year. That top 10 had good years.
