This is a move you make when you think you are one player away THIS SEASON. The brain trust's conclusion from the game you just watched was that we are one player away and it's not the QB.

Stupid is what stupid does ......... and we are sooooo freaking stupid I cannot even express how pissed off I am right now. This FO has learned nothing over the years from its mistakes which is why we haven't had 2 consecutive 10 win season in forever.

So, now we bring in a guy whose not having a good year.......didn't have a good year last year..............has no familiarity with the offense or chemistry with Dak. But, he's going to come here and do what for us exactly?

What a bonehead move.
I couldn't agree more...and it not what ails us....Oakland may end with a top 10-12 pick...… this was a bad desparate trade

Just for fun.... Funny looking back at the threads from 10 years ago. Lots of people critical of our QB play, poor coaching with basic play calling... The one constant remains Jason Garrett, lol..

And oh the trade for Roy Williams... fans seemed more positive on the prospect of Williams than Cooper this go around. Third times the charm? I will say Cooper is faster and a better route runner so we'll see.

For now enjoy these Roy Williams appreciation threads.....

We are on year 3 of that "chance". I think Dak has gotten one of the best opportunities to succeed in the NFL when you factor in Zeke and the money we have spent on the OL. How much longer? I think the FO answered that question today. I think we'll see a change in the coaching staff before we see a QB brought in to challenge Dak. Its Dak for the foreseeable future.

The irony is Garret himself parlayed a flash in the pan season into a career. Looks like Dak is on a similar path.

For the first year and a half, Dak was passing the test.

For the last year, not.

But in the last year, you can see the OC failing the test as well. I don't think you can get an accurate evaluation of what Dak can be without a change of OC.

What exactly happed with the RW trade? I mean our prolific passer, whom carried the team and made everyone around him better and made countless receivers into pro bowl players just couldn't make it work? RW must have really sucked.
I'm going to wait and see, Cooper might not make Dak better but the receiving corp got better.
Always look at trades in the concept of the team as a whole. Is this team better off now and in the future? Probably not when you give up a #1 pick in next year’s draft for a guy who’s near the end of a rookie deal. What if he bolts after next year?

And worse...a trade like this gets made for one of two reasons- because you are desperate or because you think you’re a player away. If I’m being honest without the fan glasses on, this team is far from a player away. The last time our FO acted this way was 2008...when JJ thought we were just a WR away. That was the year before the disasterous “special teams draft”. God help us.

He struggled a lot at the end of 2016. MN is really the first team that figured him out. Denver proved the point in 2017 and the league has mostly followed that line of game planning...........jacksonville did not and we saw a glimpse of the 2016 cowboy offense. Washington wasn't that dumb and I expect Dak will continue his struggle to eclipse 200 yards passing.

disagree...we gave up multiple picks for a older player.
not popular for me to say but I think Cooper is just getting started...change will do him good...plus we only gave up 1 draft pick.
if Im wrong,I'll own it.

Amari hasn't been an ascending player since 2016. We owe him13.9 million in 2019 which is the final year of his contract. So, it was not just costly in terms draft capitol but also in terms of cap money.

Amari is also making big money next year. We owe him 13.9 million to stick around in 2019.

2nd half of 2016 is actually Dak's *highest* rated half year. There was a catastrophic dropoff from Atlanta on. His rating has been climbing this year.

Time Period Comp Att Yards TDs INTs Comp% YPA QB Rating
2016 2nd Half 146 211 1647 11 2 69.2 7.0 106.0
2017 Before ATL 163 259 1818 16 4 63.0 7.0 97.6
2017 After ATL 145 231 1506 6 9 63.0 6.5 74.0
2018 First 7 128 206 1417 8 4 62.0 6.9 94.0

3 months from now....... "Cooper is just not getting separation", "Cooper's routes are jut not good enough", "Cooper has lost a step".

wait for it

It's not reasonable to expect that a young WR to come to a team midseason and be particularly useful.

It's another Matt Cassel deal, except *much* more expensive.

The drop-off began @ MN in week 13, not week 8. I remember watching the MN game where we struggled to score 17 points and seeing it all unravel. The following week we put up 7 points..............and everyone was healthy. Prior to those games, the offense looked unstoppable. You have to put those passer ratings in context. Dak's current passer rating is 87.4 not 94. He ranks 24th out of 33 Qbs who have started games. ...............and 4 of those guys are rookies. He is literally bottom 5 among veteran starting QBs.

2016 is irrelevant to me. The NFL QB graveyard is littered with guys who had 1 great year and then dropped off into oblivion. Dak shows all signs of being one of those guys and its not for lack of intangibles. He just doesn't have the vision and arm to conduct a passing attack thats going to worry anyone. He's a read option QB. I will be shocked if Cooper makes any difference.

I remember the MN game too. He actually had a decent game at Minnesota by QB rating, though yardage was pitiful. Had 6 runs 36 yards too. Had a horrible game at the Giants. They had good corners, so they figured out the formula. Press man single coverage without help, or with single high. Stop Zeke. Keep Dak from running. Only 1 yard.

I don't think Dak really got worse at that point. The Giants had just figured out the scheme to beat us. And it was cold. Probably tough on a Mississippi State guy.

Yeah, 94 is his career number. Copy paste error. I was surprised it was that high. 87.4 seems right for this year. Feels worse than 2017 before ATL, but better than after ATL.

He's a read option QB. If we let him be that, he'll rank higher. Let Dak be Dak.

Well, IMO, the scheme is going to get some folks fired if the offense doesn't catch fire soon. 2019 is a HUGE year in terms of figuring out if Dak is the QB whose going to take this team to its next super bowl. Stephen might want to see Dak work with some different offensive minds who will stop trying to make him play like Mathew Stafford.

No,where near the same, Williams was older and washed up.

Williams was 26 and had played 5 seasons. Cooper is 24 and has played 4 seasons. Not nearly the disparity suggested by your post.

I'm hoping this deal works out better than that one.

Problem is this, the "Read Option" will not work in the NFL. LBs are too smart and too fast. The theory behind the read option is to put my best ATHLETE in a position to make a play. I said ATHLETE not QB.

Williams was washed up and on the downside of his career, Cooper hasn't hit his prime.

Maybe he can't stand the Raiders? You don't make the pro bowl 2 straight years right out of college with no heart.
