The New Guard Martin looks like with a little technique coaching could provide at minimum cooper level of play. This based off X's analysis which is pretty good, most of the time. :p

I don't see it that way. I think Martin needs a lot of work.

What I'm optimistic about is that the stability of playing between two solid, dependable, Pro Bowlers on either side can be a big help to him. In looking at his film from San Francisco, not only did Martin struggle at center, but the players he had beside him were trash too.

It's one thing to worry about doing your own job, yet another to have no faith in the guy next to you doing his.

Marcus Martin will be a case where I will put my faith that Paul Alexander knows what he's doing until he shows me otherwise.

He was a finesse blocker that never had power and relied on quick feet and technique. Age and injuries quickly took their toll on those quick feet, and by 2016 the guy was done. And credit and a big thanks to him for realizing it and saving this team from themselves. Otherwise, he would have been back and looked even worse.
Was strange the way he retired. I think if we knew for sure then we may have kept Leary another year. Maybe it’s just the way it was presented to us in the media.

Kinda like T-Will had surgery on a broken foot a month ago and we didn’t know about it until the other day.

Flemming ranked 24'th by PFF in 2017. Collins? 56'th. BTW, Byron Jones ranking was 54'th at S. I think if you read enough of these rankings you start to get a picture of the player. One says nothing. Fans like to quote them because it suits their purpose and pick the worst ranking (if they don't like player so and so) or the best ranking if they do. JMO. I don't think anyone has ever rated my opinions lol

The timing was a bit odd for sure, and I'm almost certain that it took the team by surprise. Based on Garrett's comments, I know he was surprised. Mike Fisher announced Free's tpretirmenet several days before it was officially announced. And Garrett sounded blindsided when it was brought up to him.

If that's the case, credit to them for keeping it under wraps. It would have only jacked up the asking price for guys like Thompson and Hurns.

Guessing they thought they had it covered. When we had Tyron go down it showed. Need depth.

Or all you need to know about your perception(s).
Nope...not a thing at all. First of all, he is not a SS. 2nd of all, if he was the 4th best SS the Cowboys wouldn't be moving him to CB. Please let me know if I need to go on.

Actually, BJ played far primarily the SS role this year. And it's a valid question - if he was an outstanding SS, why contemplate moving him? Well, there are several possible reasons - could be they have the 3rd best SS behind him and want to get him on the field, or they could have a greater need at CB, or they believe he'll be a top ranked CB.

If you look at the Bleacher analysis, what they represent is simply a mathematical calculation of the author's assessment of the players skills in several areas. A player that rates very, very high in one skill, but average and below average in the others will probably rank behind someone that rates average to slightly above average in all areas. The one thing this does is judge the player on his individual skills and not on scheme fit or the synergy of the other players around him. For example, Earl Thomas is an outstanding safety in Seattle, but he may not be as good somewhere else, yet he still has the same skills.

My comment about your perceptions wasn't meant to be negative. All these rankings are simply an individual's subjective view. Two people can look at a player and come away with wildly different assessments (e.g., draft prospect rankings). Or put another way, beauty is in the eyes of the beholder.
