The Dallas Cowboys have been calling around and doing a lot of last-minute work on the receivers. They are not just calling college coaches of receivers they have an interest in, but people outside the organization they consult with on college prospects.

Pauline is one of the most connected insiders with legitimate sources within the league. Cowboys looking at receivers isn't just smoke.

Are you saying this in hindsight? Because last year saw 6 WRs get taken in the first 18 picks. This year they probably won't draft 6 in the entire first round.

I will throw this out there....I wouldn't be shocked if Hyatt is the pick @ 1/26....then we trade Gallup to the Cardinals for Hopkins.

You should be horrified if they pick Hyatt @ 26. Not saying he won't become successful but that is overvaluing speed without a lot of other proven receiver skills.

I’d be surprised if Hyatt isn’t selected towards the back end of the 1st.

Hyatt needs some refinement but that can be said about a lot of 1st round WRs. This notion he just runs fans and doesn’t know how to play WR is wild to me. He put up monster numbers in the best conference in CFB and his drop rate is like half of some of the dudes that are ranked ahead of him.

For them to do this something must be off on Gallup and or Tolbert……they must look at his as if they have one receiver….

This is my point.......taking a WR with 1st or 2nd rounders is pretty much giving up on Gallup and Tolbert after only a year. I have to see to believe it.

But if the plan is to add playmakers to the offense, Zay Flowers in the first and one of those smaller fresh legged backs I see for Friday ought help that cause, no?

I understand that the draft isn’t always about just the coming year, but for where this team is, right now, I’d hate to burn the best chance at acquiring talent on a WR that isn’t going to play much year one.

But he got 1/3 of his TD's in one game. Granted it was against Bama but they were all on primarily speed routes if I remember correctly. Don't recall any nuanced route running. I'm just saying he's not the first fast guy the NFL has seen. One trick ponies aren't consistent producers in the NFL because the opposing talent is just too good & D coordinators will focus on their weaknesses. I would view him more as a 3rd, 4th selection guy who if he learns how to do more could be a home run.

Just using draft grades by NFL.com for this year and last. Same guy did both years so for comparison sake the same criteria was most likely used. People like to trash Lance but at least he forms his own opinion instead going with the "consensus".

Speed is his calling card but he also has great hands. On tape his speed helps him obviously win on 9s / posts but it also makes him deadly on comebacks, crossers and slants.

I feel like “1 trick pony” is just a lazy eval if you actually watch him play. Every team in the SEC probably has a 4.3 WR and no one else blew up the league like he did last year.

The only reason some would even consider Hyatt in the first is that the WR class is depressed this year. Throw Hyatt into that Lamb class and he'd be a bottom half of the 2nd round, at best, WR.

Thought we agreed in another thread.......whatever round they pick a WR ( believe you said round 1 or 2) will answer this. I'll agree about Tolbert a bit but my goodness, he was 4th round rookie. But Gallup ......... has guaranteed 2023 salary, and be completely healthy ( first time since 2021 ). As stated in the other thread........we'll see

My feeling is that they would like a true X-receiver, and they don't want to have to pay Cooks or Gallup or both in '24 (if Tolbert starts to pop), especially since they will be paying Cee dee the big bucks. It's a way to get younger and save money at a premium position.

He has a limited route tree. He struggles at getting off the line in press coverage. He had questionable feel for zone defenses, often running himself into coverage as he didn't understand what the defense was doing.

He's much closer to 1 trick pony than a complete WR.

So they don't trust Gallup but just restructured him a month ago? Something don't add up there in that analysis. Either the Cowboys have no problem with Gallup and you aren't accurate or the Cowboys are really dumb and kicked more cap hits into the future despite not trusting him.
